Shout out from Rove McManus who is such a well known tv and radio personality down under. Hopefully people that follow him on his twitter take note and possibly purchase? Any publicity is good publicity.

Or are we still expecting somebody else? (Dare I say it, somebody I've heard of?) Yes it's him. He at 1 point for about 10 years was all over tv and radio here. He was married to a famous actress who was on "Home And Away" which is 1 of the 2 biggest soapie night time shows in Australia, she unfortunately died of cancer... a few years later he married someone else.

I thought The Rotting Deep was really let down by the direction. The guest cast are OTT and unlikeable in an irritating way rather than how their characters are defined. Hebe doesn't fare much better and her dialogue seemed oddly stilted, like it didn't quite mesh when interacting with Colin and Bonnie. That made the final scene feel a bit clunky for me, which is a shame as it was quite heartfelt but lacked that punch for me. Although admittedly that could also be because I don't have an affection for Evelyn as others do; I like her well enough but wasn't around when her releases were coming out. The script could do with a bit of a tidy up, I think, but if the direction was up to scratch then I think it would've been a lovely introduction.
The Tides of the Moon is a much better platform for Hebe. I loved that first part and how her and Mel interact with each other. It suddenly remembers in the closing minutes that it has to tell a story, which is what dominates part two. Doesn't feel substantial, but it's not a bad little runaround.
Maelstrom was fine, didn't love it or hate it but I adored the soundtrack. I thought the closing scene was quite clunky, but curious to see where it ends up. I hope it's not another bloody water world though. It's funny how you can guess it'd become tired and repetitive before the release came out! It might've had a bit of potential if they used it for more than background sound effects, the odd action sequence and reminding us that Hebe is a marine biologist.
Overall it's fine. I think there's a much better introduction for Hebe out there and a much better variety of stories, but they're a likeable TARDIS team in the end and I'd like to hear more from them. Will listen to the Interlude at some point when I'm in the mood for the format.

Maelstrom Good Sci-Fi troupes with enough for the regulars to do. Like the idea of Hebe pondering a Sci-Fi Chair upgrade, cause at the moment (again Chair User's opinion), she must've the best Puncture proof tires and strongest wheel axis's going in light of the varied terrain she's covering. As to the settings being similar , its a practical showcase of the Companions Knowledge (and just asking) would be it be an issue if Peri had a set where her Botany skills came in useful every story? Whouniverse wise interesting implications Everlyn may've stayed longer on Earth after "and the Pirates" and may've met UNIT or a future Doctor with a more sophisticated version of The Space Time Telegraph which she gave Students access to without telling 6th an intriguing premise Regards mark687

As to the settings being similar , its a practical showcase of the Companions Knowledge (and just asking) would be it be an issue if Peri had a set where her Botany stills came in useful every story? As with anything, it depends on what you're doing. You are mixing two things there; settings and skillset. If there was a set where the Doctor & Peri visit three garden centres or whatever, then yes, you do run that risk of repetitive settings, which Water Worlds suffers from a touch. If there was a set with three completely distinct adventures in three settings and Peri just happens to reference the plant life a couple of times or uses her skills to come up with a cure in another, then I don't think it'd be as prevalent. If her botany skills magically solved every episode then it would. It's all about variety. And once again, it's not a guarantee it would be an issue or repetitive or whatever, but you run the risk of it. For me, it ran that risk and the concept grew tired, particularly when it was a backdrop for plots I felt lacked substance rather than any interesting exploration. You don't have the Doctor whisk Sarah Jane to news publications for her first three stories. Five doesn't take Tegan to three intergalactic airports. Ten doesn't take Martha to three hospitals. There's a reason for that. Don't get me wrong, there are good examples of hooks and themes. Infernal Devices is a bit more loose so offers greater variety and plays into the Time War. River Song 7 has her in detective mode in a variety of environments and mysteries. More recently Back to Earth did three distinct episodes on the same planet because it took advantage of there being so many interesting things to explore. I just felt Water Worlds was repetitive and there are better trio of stories for Hebe's introduction out there; it's not an awful set by any means.

I rather liked Rove slipping “wrack off” into the story - in my part of Queensland it’s a word akin to “smeg” but more specifically a euphemism for “f….”.

Also, it was utterly lovely when Hebe started to talk about the woman she knew who took a lot of people under her wing, you know she’s talking about a companion - but who? Liz? Peri? Barbara? Ace? And then there came the mention of {Spoiler} Chocolate cake, and the penny dropped. You can hear the warmth in the Doctor’s voice whwn he talks about how to make the chocolate cake, and how important to him Evelyn was, and how if she saw something worthwhile in Hebe, he’s not just offer some sage advice, but take her for a spin around the cosmos.

It’s not made 100% clear but its 15-20 years after Mel’s time. So depending on whether they’re considering 1986 or 1989 as “Mel’s time” it could really be anywhere from 2001 to 2009.

I'm really tempted to get this. I like the premise and the cast, and the stories sound good. Should I get this, or the 4th Doctor set next month (you just know I'll end up getting them both!)?
Any advice is welcome ☺️

Any advice is welcome ☺️ The 4DAs look like they're stand alone stories where as Waterworlds and the next 6DA due in August look like being a mini-series of sorts, but Waterworlds was a very good Intro showcase for a new Companion. Listened to The Rotting Deep this morning and enjoyed that. It was a rather basic story but I don't think that is nessisarily a bad thing for a companion introduction story. Base under seige helped us get to know the charcter of Hebe. I was worried her sarcastic nature might be a bit too much from some of the reviews I've seen but I think it worked. It wasn't sarcastic for the sake of sarcastic. I liked that it was a barrior she had built up because of comments people made throughout her life. I think the right move will be to soften her thoughout her travels and break down the barriors. Will be interested to see where they go from here with her. I liked the relationship betweent he 3 main characters and there is a lot of promise there. Oh and the ending. I had tears when In started realising they were talking about Evelyn. Really nice touch.

Part of me wishes that Private (we're doomed) Fraser - sorry, A.M., had got more depth to him. The Coleridge theme was so heavy, and then... yo, chemistry. It was almost an anti-climax.
