The physical set came today….and that is the first time for a long while I have been pleased with the package!
Two separate CD boxes in a slip case, still with individual artwork, reversible covers and a cast photo inside.
From the description on the website I had feared that such luxuries had been consigned to the past.
As it is I am grateful that the past is still the present.

Honestly the system big finish has for the 4th doctor adventures was the best and most money valued: Individual purchase options for stories Individual artwork To get all the stories on physical would be bundled in a Boxset They should have done this system with The 8/9/10th Doctor adventures ranges just a real shame that they stopped doing it due to monetary reasons

The Fourth Doctor range is one of their best-selling, to the point where they've added an extra disc to this and next year's second boxsets at no extra cost. I think it's because it could be somewhat confusing for new listeners.

I suspect that once season 13 comes around Tom will stop having individual covers (unless they’re all six parters).

I think because the Tom stories are recorded so far in advance we’re just getting bits and bobs that aren’t entirely in line with what we get with other ranges. Case in point, we’re getting individual covers and cases still, whilst the other classic Doctor ranges are one cover and a jewel case.
They haven’t added two extra stories out of the goodness of their own hearts. It’s a nice bonus, sure, but it’s to make the Fourth Doctor Adventures in line with the other ranges with what you’re getting for your money, as they’re presently dearer in their existing format. As pointed out, they’re not available to purchase individually on download.
Come Series 13, which seems to be done in line with the general shift to boxsets across the board, we’re going to start getting £19.99 CDs with one cover, jewel cases, no individual download stories, etc. The product listings say as much. The only difference is they’ve seemed to give Tom a longer run, but that may change come Series 14.

Re-listened to this one today. It was even better than the first time. Might be my favorite Fourth Doctor set.

I have only recently listened to the second story The Ravencliff Witch and it lived up to the praise. I have given it 5/5, but The Blood of the Timelords is still my favourite of the set.
It felt strange listening to Nick Briggs and Richard Earl in the same scene together, but not as Holmes and Watson. I was reminded of William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy appearing together in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. before their famous partnership on the bridge of the Enterprise.
And speaking of Mr Briggs it was nice to hear him say in the extras that he enjoyed the four part format as it gave the opportunity to expand the relationships and motivations of the characters. I hope that, even though all the Doctors have to conform in the future to the three disc set format, we can still get four part stories. Especially if they are as good as these.

I don't really understand why that format exists in the first place. As obsolete as they are, CDs can still hold a lot more than an hour or so of audio. A typical CD is, what, around 700mb, right? That's more than enough to fit the average "boxset" trio of stories, uncompressed. All of "Solo" could fit in a single disc.

That's more than enough to fit the average "boxset" trio of stories, uncompressed. All of "Solo" could fit in a single disc. Audio CDs can only hold 80 minutes of audio, that's the problem. Putting 3 episodes on a single disc is the MOST that BF can do, sadly. Data CDs use 700 mb. Just checked and audio CD's are also easier to play and more accessible, since data CDs require the person playing it to have a program capable of reading a CD-ROM, which probably isn't too rare nowadays, but it does make sense why you'd use audio CD's instead. Basically: no, they can't put Solo on a single disc unless they make a CD-ROM option, which might be a nice idea for those of us who can play CD-ROMs, but that could definitely cause problems and would likely make those who can't play CD-ROMs pay more than those who can. *based off of a bare-minimum research Google search, take with a grain of salt
