Not 100% sure that it's a reboot, may yet be a revival/further stories in the same universe. Claudia Christian was on Twitter today saying that they (presumably, the surviving cast) have been aware of this for some time because JMS wants them to be involved.

Yeah im assuming reboot because premise refers to Sheridan, not Sinclair. But either way I'm content. Wait and see if this goes ahead. It's not the first time b5 reboot was a possibility, only for it to fall apart.

Does this mean his bid for DW was so much eyewash?

Well, from the man himself, looks like the wheels are well and truly in motion:
And, looks like a new series may not be the only thing on the horizon either:

Dark Horizons are misquoting Variety. Variety does use the phrase "from the ground up reboot" but does not state original actors are not expected to appear. Also, in Variety, all the following text just begins "in the show...", not "in the new take...", so it's more a description of B5 than of the reboot. And of course, Variety don't quote their own sources, so the only concrete information we've had is in tweets, JMS confirming it (whatever it actually ends up being) is happening, and Claudia stating pretty clearly that she's in it, or expects to be. From the sounds of it, it will be different to accommodate the fact that a) the world has changed since the original B5 (and he wants to speculate about the future in the same way the original show did), and; b) many of the cast members have since passed away. It's an interesting prospect. He's definitely still got the mettle for it, and I'm interested in seeing who's set to join us on this new journey.

This is just nuts.
I can't imagine this new show will be better than the original, or even equally good -- the original only was what it was due to the convergence of so many factors -- but it is still very exciting! And not in the least because it more than triples the chances of Eaglemoss doing a B5 line!
From what he's said on Twitter, JMS has more creative freedom/independence this time around, as well as a bigger budget and a guaranteed five-season run. Which is... basically the best possible way any B5 reboot could possibly go about existing. And it sounds like it'll be more of a Battlestar-style reimaginining than a more conventional remake.
So I am insanely excited!
The only thing that concerns me is the synopsis--it sounds a bit too similar to the original outline (which wasn't terribly interesting compared to how the show evolved) and the focus on war. A big part of what made the original series so compelling was that it was so preoccupied with what happens before and after conflicts... less so the conflicts themselves. I'd hate for the reboot to flip that dynamic.
Otherwise, yeah, this is crazy. This must be how some of y'all felt back in 2005. Babylon 5 is easily my favorite TV show of all time and I cannot be more excited to see where this leads.

Comments from JMS...
The reason this is able to happen at all is because certain folks at WB who have been a roadblock for decades are gone:
Serious conversations about this began in June:
He's interested in doing it because he wants to challenge himself to do new things with the property:
As with the original run, he has an ending in mind before even having filmed a single scene:
It appears to be not exactly a reboot, but more of a reimagining in the vein of BSG or Westworld:

Great news
Only downside is it moves the chances of BF ever getting the license from barely above zero to zero.

I'm more interested in Eaglemoss getting the license, TBH, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be ecstatic to see Peter Jurasik reprise his iconic role in audio. Hell, Even if just for audiobooks of those Centauri Prime novels. (Or Walter Koenig doing narration for those old Psi-Corps books.) It was one hell of a one-two punch for us fans of both IPs. This reminds me, my Babylon 5 re-watch is LONG overdue.
It has been 20 years (I am old) and I can only remember the most important plot points and none of the details.
It's always a good time for a rewatch! I started my rewatch a few months ago, when the "remastered" editions hit streaming services (December or January, I think?) but I haven't gotten very far. Still in season 1! Which is actually a lot better than I remembered--there's certainly not much of the big, overarching plot in the first season, but the character work is phenomenal. I've only encountered on episode that was "bad" (seriously, TKO is just awful) but even then there was still a fantastic B-plot for Ivanova.

I'm going to have to find a way to rewatch it here. I don't have HBO Max. Hmmm.

So, I thought about putting this in one of the fandom threads, but since we have one for B5, might as well: so JMS has had to tell people not to send him ideas as that would create a legal nightmare.
One guy in the comments suggested he could make them sign a waiver and give away the ideas for free. May I just say, never ever ever ever ever ever EVER do this. Ever.

Stumbled across this gem while searching for something else. "Day of the Dead" was marvellous, I wouldn't mind another episode from Gaiman if the stars aligned for B5:
