I have pre-ordered this. Never have seen an episode of Blake's seven (and not really interested at the moment). But this is Colin hamming it up as a baddie for 2 hours. Even if I do not understand a word of what is going on, that was enough of a selling point for me.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Hard to tell for sure, but I don’t think I see an eyepatch underneath that mask

Very interesting placement for at least one of the stories from the sounds of the trailer. I wonder, I wonder...

Wasn’t there a tie-in audio book written by Nigel Fairs? It seems to have vanished. *Edit*….never mind. It was pushed back a few months.

I think when you get around to it you will really enjoy Blakes Seven and then you will really enjoy The Liberator Chronicles and then really enjoy the Full casts and then really enjoy The Worlds of Blakes seven and then realise you are penniless 😂😘

1. Conscience.
A story featuring boisterous braggart and multiple-murderer Bayban should, by its very nature, be bombastic and certainly more exciting than this. But Bayban, alongside all his bluster, is a bore on a 'galactic scale.' His endless tirades against everyone, and long stories of his 'achievements' become very tedious very quickly (despite the occasionally humorous dialogue), even with Colin over-enunciating every syllable as he does when playing evil. His relationship with Jenna is interesting but drawn out. The minimilatist music and sound design don't help; in fact, their sparcity give the impression even the sound man has lost interest. A disappointing first episode, and I'm really sorry to say that. Perhaps it will gain a more vital place when heard as part of the whole story. I hope so.

2. The Butcher's Wife by Lizzie Hopley.
I enjoyed this a lot more than the opener. Maybe it's a mistake coming here and writing my little views after only one hearing. I've a feeling 'Conscience' may improve with a second listening. This second story gives Bayban more to do, welcomes back Stephen Grief as Travis (a meeting which provides some nice stand-offs) and even allows Bayban a moment or two of, ahem, subtlety! I like Lizzie Hopley's writing, and this is no exception.
Abigail Thaw's Hinton is proving an interesting character and it is interesting what is done with her here. Fiona Hampton as Princess Arla is also very good. In fact, there are plentiful character surprises here, and it might be worth warning you there is a scene that takes place during ...
{Spoiler} ... Bayban (the Betrothed?)'s wedding night! Great fun, and Colin plays it all wonderfully.
I haven't heard the final story yet, but I'd sugest this story is worth the cover price alone, and contains exactly the mixture of fun and adventure I'd hoped a set based on Bayban I'd hoped for!

You know you're addicted to Big Finish when ... you're due to attend a family Christmas, and you think "I've just got time to listen to 'Bayban the Butcher.'"
I like Bayban. He's a larger than life, flashy, bombastic braggart who doesn't just savour the moment, he tells you he's savouring the moment - but he has to be given a little more to do than shout, otherwise he's just a bore. With the glorious Hinton as his co-star, and 'that squirmy little theif' Vila as the returning original Blake's 7 cast member, he's in good company. And this is a good story with which to end the set. It hasn't been quite the glorious romp I had hoped it would be, but then 'glorious' and 'romp' are subjective! I enjoyed it, and that's good enough for me. I think Bayban needs to be surrounded by interesting characters so his grandstanding doesn't fully take centre-stage, and the first story might have been a casualty of that. Interesting too, that Hinton is on the cast list for the next box set.

Great box set. 3 great stories
CD production a bit flawed - the BF intro for disc 3 is the final track on disc 2. Now that I think of it, I don't remember any opening music for disc 1. Was that a CD error too?
