A Death in the Family had Hex replaced on the dummy cover they released, so they could tease him leaving in the story beforehand. That's a very interesting one because the spot reserved for Hex was taken up by Ian Reddington as Nobody No-One - who never appeared on a cover otherwise! EDIT: I've just noticed, looking at that cover, that Evelyn's wearing one of Colin's cat badges. Bless. Makes Nobody Noone look rather pleasant and friendly.

I definitely see where you're both coming from, even though I, find the series to be rather phenomenal -- it's definitely very different from the usual Who fare, but different in a way that I've always wanted to see the franchise explore--less tension and overblown drama, more character focused, more down to earth, and more about time travel than bug-eyed aliens.
Personally I thought that trailer sounded like Stranded 3 would be significantly more conventional and plot driven.
Anyway, your comments gave me a thought, which might help you better enjoy the Stranded miniseries. Maybe?
Basically: don't think of it as a miniseries, think of it as a Monthly Range release. The whole series, all four boxsets. Think of each individual boxset as a separate disc/episode--just blown up/expanded tenfold. This isn't four-by-four stories, it's just one. To a far greater extent than anything Big Finish has ever attempted before with these 8DA miniseries/arcs.
We'll see how it all pays off in 2022 (fffffffffffffffffff) but I suspect y'all might end up enjoying Stranded more once you can listen to all of it at once.

Although i have previously really expressed no real love for 1 and 2 i have preordered it ,who knows maybe i will enjoy it maybe i wont but its always nice to hear the familiar team but secretly am yearning for the NEXT series after it ,minus all the hangers on just LIV,Helen and 8 🤭 or probably just Helen and 8 😜 We don't really know in what direction these future story's will go,8th doc and charley to come+2 more boxsets at the end of 2022.They might be individual story's and maybe a new companion, who knows? Not sure we will get another 4 boxset blockbuster!

I hope we get another 4-set series, as I feel like so far the only one that's really, fully "pulled off" that format is Ravenous. In general I'm kind of hoping they don't transition to 3-Story sets, but if they can make it of comparable quality, I'd love to see a 3x3 series like Dalek Universe.

For The Record i am glad you are enjoying the series and i am open to experimental storytelling and character focused stories
However The Problem i have with Stranded is that i found it completely Derivative
The Premise of The Doctor being stranded on Earth has been done twice before- Once in The Pertwee Era and The Eighth Doctor Novels (The latter been done far more interesting and more variety in story telling)
The Same Two Companions (Yes i know that People love the 8/Liv and Helen Tardis Team but i found it quite the opposite i found Liv to be moody/annoying and should have been killed off at the end of Ravenous and Helen is just there as a third wheel) so being stuck with The Same Two Companions ( 6 Years with Liv and 5 Years with Helen) just makes me yearn for more Classic 8 audios
The Cliched Marketing Tool of Having a Moffatt Era Character to attract viewers (this goes for River and The Curator while River played a more active part. Tom Baker's Curator feels like he is just there as a glorified cameo to help add intrigue and purely a marketing device to get people to listen

That actually makes it far worse because with The Main Range you had more variety of stories to choose from and could buy any particular audio that you wanted to hear and not being forced to buy a complete box set for one story (i mean Big Finish you had the perfect system with The 4DA Series 7-12 with People allowed to purchase individual episodes on download or a box set for CD/Download for a complete box set. but obviously Big Finish sadly ended that with Series 13 sadly probably due to Financial issues)

Uhm.... to play the devils advocate here... but I am looking forward to the release and it is one of my most anticipated releases in the coming months. I have enjoyed the series so far and I especially liked volume 2. Plus, yes, I am one of the people who really love Liv Chenka. She is basically my spirit animal. Or patronus. But I am used to being the odd one out....

I get where you are coming from and agree with a lot of your points for me though I just didn’t need all the extra characters added when i felt we hadn’t even decently explored Helen to any great degree...i mean a character is welcome to travel with the Doctor till doomsday...i mean my own friends dont have a limited shelf life....bored with you now am writing you out of my life 😂 i guess i just experienced a reality gap in Stranded as me seeing what it was and what i was expecting. I can’t even recall any particular scenes in it as STANDOUT and totally memorable and for me that was a bad sign...like i said am still buying them BUT if there were a set of CDs i would consider selling on EBAY these wpi;d be the first to go 🤭 OMG, you do not remember Andy rushing towards the TARDIS in his patrol car, sirens wailing, because he was afraid he would miss the departure? That was EPIC! I love Andy.

Well, I thought Volume 2 was a big step up from volume 1. But I enjoyed both. Yes, Ravenous was awesome, and it would have been an impossible task to top the Ravenous finale. Stranded is much more small scale and intimate and day-to-day stuff. But strange as it sounds, I liked this. No, it is not as good as Doom Coalition or the first Dark Eyes or the last 2 volumes of Ravenous. But it certainly is on par, if not better, than Dark Eyes 2-4. For me, at least.
And I actually like all the random characters. That makes the series feel grounded. And I cannot really answer you what exactly it is that makes me like Andy so much. I just totally fell in love with him.

I HATED Ravenous I HATED Doom Coalition I HATED Dark Eyes 2 - 4 Well, if I remember correctly, you were tired of the constant "fate of the universe at stake", no time to breathe and running around like idiots.
You do not have this, here. You get the "fate of planet Earth at stake", but that is not the main focus. The fate of the planet is more like a vehicle used to tell some small scale domestic stories featuring 8, Liv and Helen. Do you like domestic stories? As in: they live in a house, 8 is supposedly the landlord (and doing a very bad job at it), we get to know all the renting parties in the building and there are many characters living in said house.
There even is a little side plot about a budding relationship/ love interest of one of the companions with one of the people living in the house.
It is not exactly soap opera style, but it is VERY different from Doom Coalition and Ravenous. The whole structure of storytelling is different, and also has to accommodate A LOT of characters. Some people have mentioned on here that they did not like this many characters running around. Especially because some of them are weird. Since I am in love with weird characters, this also was a plus from me.
I enjoyed the change of pace and how different it is. It is also kind of a soft cross over with Torchwood, since two Torchwood characters are part of the main cast gang. One of them is Andy, who gets to shine here. They are supposed to keep a close eye on the Doctor, making sure he does not get himself into trouble (you might guess how that works out).
The Curator also has a few cameos, and many people were disappointed that the Curator has such a background role, mainly just making cryptic remarks and being mysterious.
I liked it that way, for me, that was just the right way to approach the character. As far as stranded on Earth stories go... the 3rd Doctor era did it better, but at a guess, they tried something new here.
It also seems to be some strange parallel Earth year 2020 these events take place in, since there is not one mention of COVID (bonus for me, since I listen to these things to relax and wind down).
There is still, on occasion, the running around like idiots, but that is 8th Doctor for you. The style of the villains, as far as we are guessing right now, pretty much is on par with Doom Coalition (but without the Eleven).
There still is some great big mystery going on, and I am pretty sure, some mysterious macguffins will appear in time.
If this sounds like something you might enjoy, go for it.

Yes you are right, & also the length of these boxsets 4 stories each which are unnecessary & the release schedule. Dalek Universe seems better with only 3 stories & not much time between releases. But with Stranded I don't like the idea of The Curator turning up, a character that was only meant to be a nice little easter egg for the 50th but BF can't resist spinning out these things.

I think showing Tom Baker on the cover, like he was one of the main characters, is false advertising. And several people on here have criticized that.
So if BF are guilty of something, it is less "spinning out the Curator adventures" and more "false advertising".

Mm... I really regret reading the bit on *Stranded* in this month's vortex... here's hoping I can forget those spoilers by the time it comes out.... certainly seems like Stranded 3 has a fair bit of potential to top Stranded 2, just going off each story premise.

And not everyone will make it home. Had a long think between the threads It will probably be The Judoon Aye, those Judoon ships are quite unreliable. Prone to breaking down in between planets.
