I had no idea how much I missed that theme tune. I also had no idea how much I enjoyed “tigger eight” as opposed to “rabbit eight”, he’s a joy to behold, befriending gorillas, insulting emperors etc etc And 20 years?! It wasn’t that long between Time and the Rani and Sirens of Time! In fact… it wasn’t 20 years in between CASTROVALVA and Sirens of Time.

Finished off the set with Heart of Orion this morning. As with Writhing Mass, good, but not as good as Mummy.
Overall I'd give the boxset a solid 4/5. Lots of good enjoyable stuff in here, but for this long time coming return to Charley and a cheerful Eight, I think it could've stood to have a bit stronger stories than this. None of them were bad, but I felt like 3 out of the four stories were in that 'well it's not bad so I'll listen to it because I know there's better ones coming up' tier of stories.

Just managing to find time to squeeze these into my schedule... first half of Mummy done.
Okay, I laughed at Joe le Taxi the first time. No need to repeat it, thanks.

(Mummy) Am I the only one who heard the word Myriametre and was interested enough to pause and go look it up? It's 10,000 metres, or 10 Kilometres. But when Charley mentions 225 and 'only' 30 myriametres to Beauvais (which is actually 75k north of Paris), we're expected to think it a much shorter distance? Hmm.
Otherwise, a bit of fun all round. Not too heavy or complicated.

Eclipse:
Good lines:- DOCTOR: Why aren’t you biding by your own curfew? Call me paranoid, but I’m always suspicious of leaders who don’t follow their own rules. KEELDA: Are we nearly there yet?
I liked it. Okay, obviously the Hellstrung weren't going to be the baddies, and it got rather heavy (and yucky in my mind's eye) towards the end, but a good story nonetheless.

Unfortunately, this ended up being very similar to the recent Lucie Miller set... middle-of-the-road, average stories. The only thing that stops them from being totally forgettable is Paul and India. I didn't think The Mummy Speaks and The Slaying of the Writhing Mass were too bad but I felt like they would have benefitted from being four episodes instead of two.

Writhing - funny and serious at the same time, and not too long (sorry, ollychops, but I think it and Mummy needed to be compact and not stretched out to 4 parts).
However... it loses points for my main bugbear - having named characters who don't get name-checked within the story. TWO OF THEM this time!
Yes Eddie Robson, that subterranean rumbling you can feel beneath your feet are the reverberations of my tuttings...

All done. A good set, fun, compact, with a 'what happened next' to conclude. I hope the reception is good enough for extra Charley stories to get slotted in other places in the future.

Three episodes in and I am thoroughly enjoying this. 8 and Charley back in their golden period. Fantastic. Two half hour episodes. Great execution.
Just Heart of Orion to go and I do like the original.
And FOUR stories in a stand alone box set. Cool.
Like others I was underwhelmed by the Lucie Miller Box Set but this is doing it for me.

Having now listened to these I can happily say that all the stories were very enjoyable and it was lovely to have Charley back with the Doctor.
As others have said this set was a step up from the Lucie box, which is strange as Lucie’s stories were always single discs, unlike those with Charley.
I still find it annoying that when celebrating and adding to their own era, Big Finish weren’t able to produce more substantial four part stories.
Which makes me wonder - with Big Finish looking to minimise costs, which is why we no longer have individual covers and separate CD boxes, Is it cheaper to produce four 1 hour stories compared to two 2 hour stories? Honestly I would have thought it would be the other way around…

Honestly I would have thought it would be the other way around… I think it’s also to save time as the bbc have to approve each individual cover and yeah would likely just put the hold on releases
