A roulette of Swarm predictions:
-Corrupted ex-Division -Corrupted ex-Timelords/Shebogans (maybe part of originals along with Rass, Omega and Tecteun?) -Eternals/Fenrice-esque elder gods -Some kind of Time Lord experiment gone wrong -Alt-universe 'dark' Doctors -Doctor's actual people (least likely. Also not buying any chatter I've seen about them being 'her real family'.)

My bet is he and his sister were somehow screwed over by the Division, starting his whole universal domination/destruction/whatever it is he actually does which the Division era Doctor had to foil. Eventually after imprisoning him Division Doctor found out whatever had been done to him originally which inspired her to go Fugitive.

A roulette of Swarm predictions: -Some kind of Time Lord experiment gone wrong Yes maybe some of Tecteun's failed experiments & as they couldn't kill them they had to be imprisoned but Azure escaped.

Has this been mentioned before? Swarm is played by 2 actors, the one trapped 'renews' & another actor takes over. So guessing it is either same species as Doctor Who or a regeneration experiment gone wrong. Also Vinder on Outpost Rose. is he a human from the universe Rose ended up in? Her legacy to protecting earth & the universe led to things like Outpost Rose named in tribute to her. The whole multiverse threatened by The Flux.

I think it's just called that becuase it looks like a rose.

If it got 100% of the audience, and 100% viewer ratings, DW fans would still be asserting that it was on the verge of cancellation.

This got an Appreciation Index score of 76, the same as 'Love and Monsters.' I'll just leave that there.
Admittedly, the opening sequences didn't bode well, although hopefully younger viewers got a kick out of the chirpy, effects-laden sillines of it all. Good, I suppose, to see The Doctor and Yaz getting on so well, and not too - in fact, not at all - melancholy that their friends Graham and Ryan had gone. I did enjoy the Doctor's line, "I can't help but think some of this might be my fault."
Once this got going, it genuinely thrilled me like Doctor Who hasn't done for a while. I like Chris Chibnall's unpredictable take on the show by this time - a stripped down Series 11, folowed by a much more continuity-based Series 12 - but the level of story-telling here, more relaxed in getting to the point due to the elongated 6-part nature of 'Flux', ticks every box for me. Cameos from Sontarans and a Weeping Angel, although we're not sure why, truly unsettling new villains, and an effortlessly likeable performance from John Bishop as Dan. A genuinely nice guy fitting into a space recently occupied by Bradley Walsh, Dan is entirely his own character. I loved his reaction to the inside of the TARDIS.
The Flux itself is beautifully visualised, in fact it is possible that the lack of overseas locations may have meant the budget can be allocated more for home-grown effects (as has been covered in this thread, I notice). My personal view is - keep Doctor Who local. There are enough CGI tricks to make a quarry in Wales look like an alien planet without stepping on a plane anyway, and if it means the show can always look this good, then I'm all for it.
I was absolutely gripped by this. Everything works: performances, visuals, incidental score, pacing, writing - everything. Should Chris Chibnall have always written the show like this since taking over? Not sure, because one of the reasons I love this opening episode so much is that it is different to what has gone before.
I convinced a friend of mine, who hasn't seen Doctor Who for a number of years, and hasn't watched Jodie because she can't get used to the show being on a Sunday, to give this a look. Her reaction? I quote: '****ing hell mate this is amazing!' and 'Getting excited for the next one.'

So I sat on this for a while, mulling, and I think one of, if not probably, my least favourite scene here was when 13 is trying to interrogate Karvanista, we cut to Dan and Yaz (which itself is actually a neat moment, funny), and then back to 13... and she's still asking the exact same question. What was the point of cutting away to just return to the scene at the same point, with no progression? Usually when you do this, it's to keep info from the audience, that the characters know. Here though, it's not even that Karvanista keeps refusing and she keeps pushing, it looks like nothing happened between the cuts. Did they just stand there, silent?

Final 28 day rating is 6.4 million, which actually bumped it up a place on the charts for the week. So that's 2 million extra over the live figures.

I just watched this again with Harper, who hadn't seen it yet. As much as I enjoyed it at the time, it's not anywhere near as good as the rest of the season has been. Which is saying something. I'll reiterate what I have said before, after the last 2 series, I never thought I would enjoy this era as much as I am now. Why did it take him so long?
