I'm curious just how "complete" y'all's "listening log" is. in terms of specific questions: - How much of each range have you listened to already?
- Are you more focused on listening to older releases, or new releases?
- What are the big stories you're most anticipating listening to in the future, not counting future releases?
- What are your top ranges?
- Are you branching out to spin-off ranges and BF's non-Doctor Who offerings, or mostly just sticking to the Doctor's stuff?
- How big is your backlog? How do you decide what to listen to next?
So talking about myself, for example, I've listened to several hundred stories but still feel like I've only scratched the surface of the Big Finish oeuvre. I've almost completely listened to all of McGann's stories (only 5 left!) but otherwise have a lot of incompletes.
My favorite ranges thus far are Gallifrey, the assorted Time War stuff, and the MR + 8DAs. I've got an enormous backlog but am very excited about listening to the remaining Evelyn stories (it's gonna be so hard to say goodbye) as well as the rest of Dalek Universe (the first set blew me away). Also very anxious to check out the 6th Doctor/Jamie trilogy and the rest of the MR anthologies.
So that's where I am; where are you?

Well here it goes:
How much of each range have you listened to already? MR probably 50-60% Early Adventures 50% Lost Stories 60% I could go on all night, but you get the picture that I'm part way through the Doctor Who stuff.
Are you more focused on listening to older releases, or new releases? Definitely still catching up with older releases, of which I've bought loads from across the BF range spectrum.
What are the big stories you're most anticipating listening to in the future, not counting future releases? Maybe something like Ravenous, I stopped buying the Doctor Who box sets after Doom Coalition. I only have Dark Eyes 1 too, so have all that to buy, and maybe the new Chris Eccleston sets at some point too. I don't WATCH Doctor Who, in fact I don't really watch TV at all.
What are your top ranges? Counter Measures (especially first 4 box sets) The Avengers Lost Episodes (which were my yearly treat) Sherlock Holmes (the box sets) The Omega Factor The Main Range (Who) Blakes 7 series 1 & 2, still need most box sets. The Sarah Jane Smith series 1 & 2 Star Cops, the full cast sets are great.
Are you branching out to spin-off ranges and BF's non-Doctor Who offerings, or mostly just sticking to the Doctor's stuff? As above, I prefer the other ranges but listen to loads of the Main Range. I have little to no interest in the new series style spin offs but will always give them a chance if on sale (in 2026).
How big is your backlog? How do you decide what to listen to next? Backlog = 300ish at a guess across the ranges, I have quite a few Dark Shadows, Gallifrey, all of the Pathfinder stuff still to get through, not to mention maybe 60ish of the MR which I've either never started or just never finished. Loads of stuff! I've not really invested in the new BF releases over the last few years...I may do at some point.

I’ve listened to quite a few monthly adventures, mostly Fifth Doctor ones, two novel adaptations, and one special release. I still need to listen to more of the other ranges.

I used to be up to date but I found that listening just because that was what was released that day, regardless of how I felt, made me enjoy stories less than I perhaps would. As such, I now have a large backlog but all that means is that I have a large (and weekly growing) library of BF to choose from when the mood does hit. I'd say I'm complete on every range (and the OOP ones) to about 2016. That's when I started building a backlog and only listening on release dates to ones that I'm really excited by.
In terms of favourite ranges - ignoring Who because I think that's a given for most here:
Sapphire & Steel Terrahawks Dark Shadows Space 1999 (even after only 2 releases..) Iris Wildthyme
Would probably be my top 5. I should say Terrahawks (RIP Denise Bryant) is probably my Gerry Anderson fandom bias but Space 1999, though that was GA too, is legit good old school sci-fi. Sapphire & Steel is maybe my favourite television show on ITV ever and BF did incredible justice to it, while expanding the mystery. Even PJ Hammond would be proud of Daisy Chain. Dark Shadows is one of the more rewarding ranges as there are so many stories and characters that the range almost feels like an anthology. And Iris? Well, I can't resist her and since she didn't start in Doctor Who, I'm counting her (but not Jago & Litefoot, though that would be a top 5 Who spinoff range).

* How much of each range have you listened to already?
For the ranges I'm interested in (mainly Dr Who) I I'm pretty caught up to around 2012... then a bit hit and miss. Used to have the attitude of wanting to listen to everything and then stopped listening for a while once I realised I didn't have enough time to listen to everything I wanted to.
* Are you more focused on listening to older releases, or new releases?
For now mostly focusing on newer releases. There's too much old stuff I want to listen to and not sure I'll ever catch up if I tried. And as much as I don't like the monthly range ending, it was a convenient point for me to pick up big finish again going forward.
* What are the big stories you're most anticipating listening to in the future, not counting future releases?
The Charlotte Pollard series. She's my favourite companion and got the boxsets in a sale. But waiting until I've relistened to her MR stories before listening to the later stuff
* What are your top ranges?
Survivors, mainly because I loved the show. From the dr who spin-offs, Graceless I adore. Love that it does set out to tell very different stories from the main range, and as much as I love the family-friendly nature of the main ranges, it's nice to have something different now and again. And also Gallifrey - Leela and Romana dynamic is a joy to listen to.
* Are you branching out to spin-off ranges and BF's non-Doctor Who offerings, or mostly just sticking to the Doctor's stuff?
I try not to... I have a big enough backlog as it is. Really only series that I used to watch, so Survivors and Blake's 7. Plus any spin-offs with companions I like.
* How big is your backlog? How do you decide what to listen to next?
I try not to think about it. Basically any Dr Who released from 2013 until earlier this year, I've tended to pick up whenever it's been on special offer, and never got round to listening to. For deciding what to listen to, mostly I pick a range at a time and work my way through it so Liberator Chronicles at the moment, plus trying to keep up with new releases.

I feel my answers for this thread are a bit boring, but I thought I'd join in anyway
How much of each range have you listened to already? In terms of Doctor Who, literally everything except for a couple of dozen Subscriber Short Trips. That includes all the spin-offs based on TV and audio characters. Are you more focused on listening to older releases, or new releases? Well, I guess it's future releases for me, but I'm also slotting some re-listens in for lots of old stuff too these days. What are the big stories you're most anticipating listening to in the future, not counting future releases? The SST range has a lot of great stuff in it, so I'm definitely keen to hear some more of them. Unrelated to Who, I've just picked up all of Star Cops, so I'm looking forward to digging into that. What are your top ranges? I mean... where to begin. We'll get Jago & Litefoot out of the way as it's such an obvious choice. The original Counter-Measures run was also fantastic. The Fourth Doctor Adventures are usually pretty reliable, but then so are most of the Doctor Who ranges (my opinions on the less reliable ones seem to be the minority view more often than not), so they're all worth checking out. Are you branching out to spin-off ranges and BF's non-Doctor Who offerings, or mostly just sticking to the Doctor's stuff? When I first found Big Finish, I was only interested in their Doctor Who output. Then I discovered they made Blake's 7, so that immediately went on the to-get list. I also would have dived into their Stargate products too, but I missed out when the licence lapsed. As I've grown to love audio drama over the years though, I've since bought all of the Big Finish Originals, Survivors, The Omega Factor, Pathfinder Legends, The Prisoner, and Adam Adamant Lives!. As I mentioned, I've just picked up the complete Star Cops, and I've got all the lost episode adaptations of The Avengers and am eyeing up the various comic/novel adaptations, and I have a number of the Big Finish Classics releases as well (and my eye on a few more). Basically, I came for Who, and now I buy probably 85-90% of all their output... How big is your backlog? How do you decide what to listen to next? Well, there's very little in the backlog now (it took six and a half years to get through it all!). Like I said, there's just the SSTs for Doctor Who, I've got a one and a third series left of Pathfinder Legends, all of Star Cops, and a number of Bernice Summerfield, Blake's 7, and Omega Factor audiobooks. In terms of choosing what I listen to next, I try to guess how many days there are before the next new release and pick a release/series of releases that will fill the days until the new product.

How much of each range have you listened to already?
Oh lord. -A lot of main range audios (but far less than some members here I suspect) -5 Unbounds -A selection of Lost Stories -All of the “special” releases save the two Worlds of [x] and the ones that are still MR-subscription exclusive -18 Companion Chronicles -A fair amount of Eighth Doctor Adventures (mainly due to radio, don’t own many of them) -All of Eighth Doctor boxsets bar Dark Eyes 4 and Further Adventures -Two volumes of Short Trips plus two years worth of monthly releases (& a handful from other years) -6 Fourth Doctor Adventures (plus the first series on radio/Spotify) -4 Early Adventures -One volume of Third Doctor Adventures -All of the War Doctor releases -All of the Tenth Doctor Adventures except Out of Time 2 -3 volumes of First Doctor Adventures -All of the TLV tie-ins except Genetics of the Daleks -Both sets of Ninth Doctor Adventures -All of Dalek Empire -Volumes 3 - 6 of New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield (plus a few freebies from her original range) -Series 1 - 3 & 7 & 8 of Gallifrey and all of Time War volumes -Both series of Cyberman -The complete original UNIT spin-off, plus Dominion, and four volumes of the new generation range -Two series of Jago & Litefoot, plus the Strax special -One series of Counter-Measures -One series of Charlotte Pollard (which I’ve yet to get round to listening to) -3 series of Diary of River Song -All of War Master (though yet to actually listen to Hearts of Darkness) -All of Missy -All of Jenny -A sizeable proportion of Torchwood monthlies, the three special releases and one volume of Torchwood One -Two volumes of Class -Got 3 Sherlock Holmes canon adaptations, plus Perfidious Mariner, the Ordeals/Judgement/Sacrifice saga and Reificstion of Hans Grubder -The Captain Scarlet 50th anniversary release -The Terrahawks freebies -The one Thunderbirds release -Both Cicero releases
Are you more focused on listening to older releases, or new releases?
I tend to do new releases as soon as possible, and sometimes revisit older releases to complement them if possible. I did start working through the main range earlier this year but got sidetracked, and that’s the only older range I’ve made any kind of effort to work through as most older stuff I buy in sales.
What are the big stories you're most anticipating listening to in the future, not counting future releases?
Not counting future releases... I do want to get Susan’s War (only major Time War release I’m missing) and catch-up on Torchwood Series 5 and 6. Also I need to get round to listening to the second half of the Hex MR arc.
What are your top ranges?
MR on a good day, Companion Chronicles, New Adventures of Benny, Torchwood monthlies.
Are you branching out to spin-off ranges and BF's non-Doctor Who offerings, or mostly just sticking to the Doctor's stuff?
I tend to just go with what interests me on a release-by-release basis. There’s some ranges I don’t look at cos they just haven’t clicked or I just have no real affinity for the era (For example the Third Doctor stuff, not out of any dislike just never felt urge to dive into that era more). There’s a few ranges where I sometimes go with blind faith, but those are quite few. Currently they are Torchwood monthlies, Benny/Warner Doctor and Ninth Doctor.
I have branched out a bit to non-Doctor Who. Tried episodes of some Originals as and when they were made freebies, but none really appealed other than Cicero. I have got more into their Gerry Anderson stuff lately, and if Thunderbirds stuff keeps coming I’ll be onboard for that. Sherlock Holmes is the only one where I’ve really dived in.
How big is your backlog? How do you decide what to listen to next?
My backlog is not insignificant: MR- The Axis of Insanity The Council of Nicaea The Kingmaker Son of the Dragon The Wormery Arrangements for War I.D 100 The Doomwood Curse Brotherhood of the Daleks Return of the Krotons The Curse of Davros Static Thicker Than Water 1963: The Assassination Games The Settling Protect and Survive Black and White Gods and Monsters Afterlife Mask of Tragedy Signs and Wonders Twilight’s End Army of Death
Lost Stories- Crime of the Century
Spin-offs- Charlotte Pollard Series 1 War Master: Hearts of Darkness
Sherlock Holmes- The Final Problem/The Empty House The Reification of Hans Gruber The Sacrifice of Sherlock Holmes
Depends what mood I’m in. I do really want to get moving through the MRs but finding time to settle for them is surprisingly difficult.

Y'all are making me think I'm missing out on some things... curious about Counter Measures -- is it like the UNIT series, leaning heavily in the SF stuff, or is it more focused on Cold War espionage? And as much as I don't like the monthly range ending, it was a convenient point for me to pick up big finish again going forward. Hah, yeah. Sucks that it ended but now that it's finite it feels much more, I dunno... accessible? Like I don't have any belief that I'd ever be able to listen to even just 10% of Big Finish' output, but 100% of the Monthly Range? I think I might manage that, one day.

The first 2 episodes are free (see BF for free in the General thread, I think) and considering this set was £35 that is pretty damn good. The theme is more 1960's mind-control, politics, a bit of sci fi, and general weirdness to be investigated. Very good indeed.

How much of each range have you listened to already?
Oh god, a bit too much to list, honestly. I listened to maybe 60% of the monthly range, I listened to all of the 8th Doctor range and I got pretty much everything with Colin Baker (surprise!).
I came to enjoy Jago and Litefoot a lot, so I got all of theirs, too, although I have not listened to the audio book last release yet.
I never got into Gallifrey, I tried a few, but it just is not my thing, I am afraid.
I got all the River Song releases.
Benny and the Unbound Doctor!
I got some of the Early adventures and Second Doctor stories, but it is more dabbling than following.
I got all except one of the Third Doctor Adventures, because I really like the era- plus I get everything with Katy Manning in it. She is AWESOME.
UNIT is very much hit an miss with me. And I need to be in the right mood.
I am not really interested in anything outside Doctor Who and expanded universe at the moment (although I got the Dark Shadows and Blake's Seven release featuring Colin).
And then there is Torchwood.... I never watched the show, and I am not a fan of Jack. Even before the controversy. I tried to get into the audio series, but I am afraid that most of the characters just leave me cold.
I however adore Andy and Billis Manger. So I got the main releases featuring them. Plus a few of the more experimental releases, since I love experimental stuff. The weirder, the better.
And then I got some of the special releases that came out, and otherwise mainly all the NuWho stuff, including Tennant.
I however admit that I have not kept up with my listening over the past 9 months, because there is other stuff, especially German stuff, that I like to listen to, too.
Are you more focused on listening to older releases, or new releases?
Depends on my mood, really. If I am in a really rubbish mood, I just like to chill with known comfort pleasures, things that I have enjoyed in the past and my old favorites that cheer me up. Listening to something new in that situation will only end up with me ripping the thing apart. This is also why I do not write reviews when I am in a bad mood, because it might be unfair.
When I am in a good mood or crazy mood, I like to try out new things, and I am also up for weird and wonderful experimental stuff.
What are the big stories you're most anticipating listening to in the future, not counting future releases?
I always enjoy the 8th Doctor releases, hardly any of them has ever let me down. So I am always looking forward to these. And of course I am looking forward to everything having Colin Baker in it.
May he be with us for a long time!
As for a story I would wish for- Andy and Billis Manger meeting. Maybe in a dark comedy. That would be epic.
Otherwise, I am open for anything and also enjoy the cross-overs and different characters meeting (even the more fan-w*nky ones). That is one my things, and I just take those not too seriously, just as some good fun.
What are your top ranges?
8th Doctor
Robots with Liv Chenka (what an awesome series!)
Unbound Doctor and Benny (one of the best ranges full stop)
Colin Baker in basically anything (he could even read the phone book and he would make it worthwhile)
Are you branching out to spin-off ranges and BF's non-Doctor Who offerings, or mostly just sticking to the Doctor's stuff?
I am branching. But mainly just the NuWho stuff. This also depends on my mood, and if a release catches my interest.
How big is your backlog? How do you decide what to listen to next?
It is there. Basically most of everything I bought that came out in 2021. And I bought most of the Benny digital releases, but have NOT listened to any of them yet.
There are also a few monthly range stories which I have not listened to, the last Jago and Litefoot audiobook, the Star Trek audiobooks.....
How do I decide what to listen to next? I suffer from ADHD. I cannot really tell you. It happens. It depends on my mood. And if I accidently remember I own a release and it sounds as if it would be good to listen to, next.
There is no plan, and I have been known to watch and listen to series completely out of order. Therefore, I am also someone who is not afraid of spoilers.
My middle name is chaos.

How much of each range have you listened to already? almost everything - though did not try Wolf Boy, Treason Show, Fly me to the moon, Rebecca's world, Textbook stuff, Yes Minister, Star Trek Prometheus
Are you more focused on listening to older releases, or new releases? mainly focussing on new releases, though relistening to some older releases
What are the big stories you're most anticipating listening to in the future, not counting future releases? planning to start a big relisten to Dark Shadows (maybe next year)
What are your top ranges? Countermeasures, Torchwood, Jago & Litefoot, Philip Hinchcliffe Presents, the Robots, Dark Shadows, Survivors, etc
Are you branching out to spin-off ranges and BF's non-Doctor Who offerings, or mostly just sticking to the Doctor's stuff? branched off to almost everything
How big is your backlog? How do you decide what to listen to next? First started trying Big Finish in 2013 and within a few years I had amassed a backlog of hundreds of cds to listen to. I developed a plan listening to 1 CD per day on week days (5 different ranges per week) and a double cd release or 2 every weekend and eventually got up to date. Now the backlog is a few from last month (I have not started thus month's releases) and a few download-only releases (short trips and audiobooks)

Reading these I realise that I’m waaaaaay behind everybody. I’ve listened to about 40% of the Main Range, roughly half of the Short Trips and Companion Chronicles and bits and pieces of other series. The only places where I’m anywhere near complete are Dalek Empire and Blake’s 7.
To be fair, I only came to BF in 2012 with the release of Warship. My kids were in high school and I had very little disposable income. So sales were my lifeline. Looking at my stories I realise that I’ve only bought one (Out Of Time 1) in the last twelve months or so… and there aren’t any that are screaming out at me to be bought. There is a lot of other (thankfully good) stuff going on in my life, so I don’t really feel as though I’m missing out on too much.

For me its about ensuring I have physical cd copies 1stly- lock them in. I have all the Who Main Range on cd except the last 3-5.. Nearly have all the 4th Doctor on cd.. I have all on cd and listened to multiple times : Dark Shadows- The Confessions of Dorian Gray- The Omega Factor- Survivors (I am a H U G E horror fan) Pathfinder Legends. (was playing D & D in the middle/late 80's before it became mainstream). I am sure there are others but drawing a blank at the moment.
EDIT: Main/Monthly Range Who and all the various spin off Who ranges are #1 priority (3rd/4th/9th and 10th Doctor so far I have em all).. I have got other ranges but they are not my "Non-negotiables" like what I have listed in my horror section
I am to try to listen to at least 1 story every 1-2 days. 1 cd is about 60 mins. anything more is a bonus for me.. My backlog.. I have about 750-850 releases all up.. I would guesstimate I am just over 50-60% through them.

It occurs to me now, in retrospect, that I neglected to notice a very handy objective measure of backlog size--the digital footprint. Assuming any of y'all are like me, of course, and use the Big Finish app as a handy way of categorizing what you've already listened to and have yet to listen to. (EG buy it, download it, listen to it, delete it.)
So I can now say that my backlog is approximately 32.9 gigabytes. So... a lot.

However, I have now more than 100GB of BF audios alone, that I have listened to!!!, so a backlog of 20GB does not look too small in comparison...

It would take more time than I have to calculate how much of each range I've listened to. And it would make too long a post to list all the ranges I have and haven't completed. I've listened to a lot, still have a big backlog which I'm trying to work through while my spouse is away. I have completed the Main Range, Gallifrey, Dalek Empire, Cyberman, Sarah Jane Smith, Graceless and some others. Listened to most of Bernice Summerfield, River Song, UNIT, Jago & Litefoot, and much of the other ranges I've invested in. My focus varies. Sometimes I listen to releases as soon after they come out as possible. That will definitely be the case with the next The Robots release. Right now, though, I am focusing on listening to older releases that I've had on my computer ever since just before the big BF website update. I downloaded everything I had before the website update in case my purchases got lost during the transfer of information from the old to new website. There were a few glitches there, but nothing that wasn't easily fixable. But I need to get the stuff offloaded to a backup drive to make room for newer releases. Among my favorite ranges: Bernice Summerfield, Gallifrey, anything Eighth Doctor, Time War stories, UNIT, The Robots. Looking forward to more Missy, Dalek Universe, The Eleven, more Benny, more River song, and always more Eighth Doctor. Also the Ninth Doctor. I've purchased all the aforementioned stories but haven't gotten to them yet. By the way, I'm pretty sure we've done a post similar to this in the past, too. Also, wondering whether this should be in the "General Big Finish" discussion board, since the answers don't necessarily need to be strictly Doctor Who.

What a great thread!
I have been (and still am) listening my way through Big Finish's entire catalogue of Doctor Who releases (including all of the spin-offs). I'm listening to everything in the order it was released.
I started this journey with 1998's Oh No It Isn't! in early 2015. I'm currently listening to UNIT: Assembled, which was a May 2017 release, so it has taken me about six years to listen to about two decades worth of audios. The Big Finish yearly release schedule certainly picks up steam as this century progresses!
I listen to about an hour of audio every day while running cross-country. I was not at all fit when I started out on this journey, but the further I get through Big Finish's back-catalogue, the fitter I have gotten, so those two things have a strange correlation for me. Listening to Big Finish has literally been good for my health!
