1199: Returning from the Crusade, Hubert, the new Earl of Mummerset, comes to take possession of Stockbridge Castle, his ancestral home. The only trouble is, in his absence, demons took possession of his Castle... 1899: The Stockbridge Mummers’ play takes a wholly unexpected turn, when the dragon slays St George. These events are not unconnected, the Doctor and Nyssa discover. There's an alien presence squatting in Stockbridge Castle, and it's their job to expose it. If Turkish knights, killer boars and a gang of rogue paladins don't stop them first...
The first of the Stockbridge Trilogy.everyone has a favourite and everyone has an opinion about it.But am on a relisten since i kind of got a hankering for 5 and Nyssa since following the journey to her supposed final story in The Entropy Plague. The first story kicks it off in splendid humorous style wasn’t my favourite in the trilogy but who knows i may change my mind after this listen.

Castle of Fear was a lot of fun, very Monty Pythonesque. But even though it was a predominantly humorous story, the stakes were also high, with several people dying. I like the rhymes, & my favorite parts in this story is Nyssa being super smart & also being a noble lady.
I could easily imagine this story being on tv. The scenes and descriptions were very vivid.
The only thing that slightly takes me out of the story, is that the villains sound like Daleks. (But at least I could understand what they were saying, unlike the Ice Warriors).
I’m happy to have finally listened to this, having bought it last year. Onwards to The Eternal Summer, the next part in the Stockbridge trilogy.
