This is History treated seriously but within Bernice Universe there are some moments were the fear is palpable, this isn’t Tom Baker where torture is treated lightly as Romana once said “i think he enjoys it” Lisa acts her socks of in this and the nazis aren’t treated as a joke as in Lets kill Hitler for instance...the next nearest has been Scorched Earth treating the subjects with respect of the horrors perpetrated during these eras of history.

I think I prefer the novel slightly due to the scene with the Doctor in the cell and a thing that may or may not have happened... (Don't want to spoil it because it's just such a strong scene.) But Lisa Bowerman's performance makes the trauma Benny undergoes even more intense, and Jason fits pretty well into the Roz/Cwej/Doctor-shaped gap in the story.

I should try and read the novel at some point...maybe BF can release it rights permitting as an audio Have to agree all the characters are strongly acted but Lisa gives a stellar performance

I think the Just War NA novel is better than the BF audio, but they are both great as it is a strong story. For me it probably works better with The Doctor in it though.

Hrrrmmm.... the next Benny sale can't come soon enough. I need more of these shorter releases... all I have left in my queue is the latest NABS (which I won't listen to until they announce the next set) and a handful of 8+ hours audiobooks. Lisa acts her socks of in this.... Right?!? I've seen her in some bad scripts, but she's never delivered anything short of a spectacular performance. Did she have any background in voice acting prior to Big Finish? I'm pretty sure I've noted this before, but even in her debut performance, she felt like she'd been playing Benny for years.

I think she did actually, but Lisa not only nailed Bernice Summerfield on audio from day one, I don't think there is such a thing as a bad Lisa Bowerman performance in a Big Finish story, regardless of the quality of the actual script.
