I thought I would recreate this popular thread from the old forums. Yes, I know Big Finish have just announced yet more "Doctor Who" boxsets and everybody's realising that even the rich subscribers who can afford to buy everything only have so many hours in the day to listen to their output, but even so...
However, the old thread was rather long, and so it was difficult to navigate through old ideas and see what had already been suggested, so might I propose instead:
Feel free to add suggestions to this thread (except for James Bond; yes, Nick Briggs would *love* to get the rights, but it looks like Martin Jarvis and Radio 4 have them sewed up) but in the format of one suggestion for something you reckon BF have already at least considered, and one thing you think probably hasn't occured to them to make.
Let me kick off with -
1) I'm sure Big Finish have already thought of doing "Adam Adamant"; I've only seen the one episode the BBC repeated a year or so back, but it struck me as very much the kind of thing BF do.
2) There must be some mileage somewhere for adaptations of the Lord Darcy stories by Randall Garrett and Michael Kurland. One of those series of stories where the mind boggles that nobody has done something with them (it would have been a shoe-in for the ITV crime slot only ten years ago, but... no. Not a sign).

1. Sexton Blake (Verity Lambert only made Adam Adamant as a result of the failure to get the Blake rights) 2. A classics adaptation for Box Of Delights.

Oh that as pulled at a thread, The Box Of Delights, as a follower of @purplepim on twitter, I relish the thought of Christmas coming as I can settle down to watch the BBC adaptation with Troughton. There were rumours floating around that this was going to be made into a feature film Link but nothing has ever come of this speculative. I have a copy of the Radio 4/BBC produced version of this which is not bad, I am sure that if the production team at BF were to get their hands on this that once it went through their development and production, it would become a superb production. Just reading this has already made me start thinking of trees, advent calendar's, mince pies and tinsel and crackers.....

The comedy plays of Aristophanes.
Not only are these plays are surprising hard to get hold of in any form of performance, but the actors who do BF releases don't get nearly enough opportunity to display their comedy talents. I just finished reading "Lysistrata" (think: somewhat bawdy battle of the sexes) and found myself hearing certain actors in the key roles. Lalla Ward would make a great Lysistrata, especially playing against Catherine Tate in three of the supporting female roles. Derek Jacobi would be perfect as the Athenian Magistrate, although I could see Peter Davison doing it too. And when the Spartans arrived at the end, the translator gave them a Scottish accent and put their closing celebratory lyrics to the tune of "Sparta the Brave". I could hear David Tennant in the role and was howling with laughter.
For those curious, the particular translation of "Lysistrata" I read was the one in Britannica's "Great Books" series, volume 4.

Plus it's perfect for adapting. The original performances only had three people on stage at a time (easy for doubling up actors), there's enough expository dialogue in the original material so adapting for audio won't be as much of an issue and the audio medium means no flapping phalli (a bit more family friendly). A clever writer could do a satire of the current political climate in the style of Aristophanes.

I'm a big fan of Jane Austen, so adaptations of her books would go down a treat.

The translation I read in high school also had the Spartans being Scottish (Penguin edition), but the one I read in college had the Athenians as American (I suppose), and the Spartans as Russian. Oddly enough, there's nothing in the original Greek that puts them in a different dialect. Another great one is the Assemblywomen, where the women take over and run things very differently!

I studied that one in school, along with Wasps (about politicians, namely Cleon, who abuse the justice system by appealing to older men who volunteer for jury service to make money, raising the jury pay so the jurors will vote in their favor). Hugh Ross or William Russell would be excellent as Philocleon (which roughly translates to Cleon lover). Yeah, political satire and taking potshots at politicians is nothing new.

I wonder what Big Finish could do with Ultraviolet. Not the movie, but the 1998 TV series that aired on channel 4.
I also dream that they will start up Judge Dredd again.

I'd love and I mean LOVE an Ultravilet series. Very ahead of its time. It would need either recasting or rebooting though as Stephen Moyer is a big big star in True Blood, Idris Elba is going stratospheric and Jack Davenport's had a very successful career too.

I love Ultraviolet. In a world littered with vampire this and vampire that, Ultraviolet stood out as something different. The Judge Dredd physical releases had already gone OOP by the time I started digging into non Who Big Finish series and this is one I really wish I had picked up. I don't think new audios will come our way again which is too bad since everything I've heard has been so good.

So weird to see this thread and not have The Prisoner top of the list. Things I'd love to hear Big Finish take a crack at: Quatermass Farscape Ripper....Buffyverse spin-off featuring Giles and the newly formed Watcher Council. Edgar Allen Poe adaptations Adaptations of the Felix Castor novels by Mike Carey & the PC Peter Grant novels of Ben Aaronovitch. Jekyll starring James Nesbitt Some kind of original sci-fi anthology series that acts as pilots. If a particular episode takes off, a series is born out of that. Tarzan....written & directed by Barnaby Edwards.

Stargate was the same, since lots of US fans (likely the bulk of the target audience) were turned off by the idea of Stargate on audio. People can exalt the product to the Pegasus Galaxy, but unless the sales make it viable it's not going to continue. I think I heard or read somewhere that the New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield was developed because the Benny solo range wasn't selling enough, and needed the Seventh Doctor New Adventures aspect to pull in more buyers.

I'm pretty sure that has been confirmed a few times. As more & more lines are announced and the current series starts to take a bigger & bigger part of Big Finish's production schedule you have to wonder how many more copies of older lines have to sell to stay viable. I'm willing to bet we start seeing a lot more sales of those older lines as more & more ranges have their physical discs go OOP much earlier than we are used to.

I've had time to think about this, and Big Finish could put out a lengthy series of the Dark Tower.
Everything serves the tower.
Big Finish must serve the tower.
Stephen King's best work, would be a fine fit for BF, when you incorporate many of his stories which may never get made into movies, like The Eyes of the Dragon(serves the tower), Hearts in Atlantis(serves the tower, and the movie sucked big time, if you don't believe me then read the book), and many other stories.
As good as the audio books were, BF could do them so much more justice.
On a quick side note, King wrote an episode of X-Files, a deal with him could get a doctor who story out of him. Perhaps the doctor could finally save Roland from his perpetual imprisonment, in the quest for the tower.

I still think that Ripper would work extremely well on audio. it might suffer a similar fate as StarGate did with the American fans, but I think that Ripper would have the opportunity to be something that didn't have to rely too heavily on it's source show. But it could still provide opportunities for Buffy characters to make an appearance, especially if it did prove popular.

As for Ripper, I actually don't think it would be that much of a hard sell: Big Finish had to contend with a saddened audience unused to audio drama dealing with the cancellation of an ongoing series and an uncertain future for the franchise, Buffy on the otherhand has continued to thrive in comics and it's easy to place Ripper between the gap between season seven and eight. There's also an overlay of Doctor Who and Buffy fans (particularly with the revival series releases) given that the revival series launched in 2005.

I've been catching up on some viewing and I'd like to see BF take a crack at Crime Traveller. Science fiction/time travelling/police procedural could be a lot of fun.

What about Harry Potter? I think it would make a fantastic audio drama.
