That was fantastic. Brilliant RTD era Series 1 style use of the Cybermen. {Spoiler for the last track.} The "Doctor Who shouldn't be political" mob are going to HATE the last scene.
Good!

Why is it good that some people will hate something? I struggle to get that mindset.

I love 9, Cybermen and the film Metropolis so this had all the makings to be personally over-hyped. Glad to say it lived up to and exceeded my expectations, it's an absolutely glorious romp!

My post was deleted? Sad to see that this forum is transphobic The post in question was one advocating to have the audio torrented. It advocated for theft and is something we do not tolerate. It has nothing to do with transphobia.

Oh dorney you have done it again. You've given us an entertaining, touching, unique story involving characters we thought we knew. Who knew that we could still be surprised by a Cyberman story. The ending was beautiful and even had me tear up a bit. Thank you.

10/10, now I worry I'm about to have a silent film hyper fixation... I'm totally gonna try to watch Metropolis... also it has a musical adaptation... by a rapist, sure, but I'm still gonna try to listen to the soundtrack at least... WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME DORNEY?

The mindset is that if hateful bigots are upset, you're probably doing something right. Making people upset isn't usually good, but if you're pissing off brats, I feel like that's admirable.

I wasn’t as enamoured by this as everyone else, it seems. I enjoyed it a lot; the use of the Cyberman was great, Eccleston on good form and some cracking imagery.
However, there’s some stuff I just can’t get past. The Doctor is an idiot letting the Cyberman back on set. And then he goes and lets it on the streets of Berlin afterwards! Then nothing is said or done about the Cyberman killing one of the cast, both at the time in the story and at the end. I get what it’s trying to do, but for me the Cyberman causes enough damage and there’s too many unanswered questions that it’s a disconnect with what’s actually happened / happening.

I'm totally gonna try to watch Metropolis... also it has a musical adaptation... by a rapist, sure, but I'm still gonna try to listen to the soundtrack at least... WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME DORNEY? It's tangentially related, so here's my first reaction mini-review of Metropolis. It was really good! Metropolis is a silent film made between the world wars and it's pretty good! My only complaints are about the story and the female lead's acting at times. The story starts in a stupid manner, it ends rather strangely has some loose plot threads, stops caring about logic occasionally, and forgives a lot of horrors too easily. All of that said, I loved it. The female lead either sucks at running away or it just looks dumb because of how old films speed things up some, but she's really good outside of that. There are 2 sort of racist moments, but I'm gonna chose to view those as imagery of the time and not go any deeper into it. The moral is great though and while wish the machine man appeared more, I still loved it. The visuals are beyond compare, the effects are brilliant. I don't know how they did half of this stuff in the 1920s!! 8/10!

Quite enjoyed that. It’s similar to Dalek in how it focuses on a singular example of an old nemesis and gradually alters them into something very unusual for their kind.

So the spoiler about the end of the Cyberman story review that would have right wing people angry and upset was the 9th Doctor suggesting that a Jewish women leave Germany ahead of the rise of Hitler? I'm stunned by this and it shows how genuinely unhinged the far left really are if they think that would anger someone slightly right of centre

I guarantee you there are plenty of people who will be upset about that ending.

I'm stunned by this and it shows how genuinely unhinged the far left really are if they think that would anger someone slightly right of centre I'm sorry some might be angered by that - it was one of my favourite moments, but then, this story had a lot of favourite moments. I had written a more detailed response to 'Monsters in Metropolis', but my PC crashed, which was a lovely moment. Suffice it to say I loved this. Lots of nice touches relevant to the time period, and the cinematic world in which it is set. Some great sound design, the music occasionally reminiscent of Murray Gold, but that never swamped the drama as his stuff sometimes did on television. Great performances - when The Doctor said "There are some things even I can't stop," there was genuine emotion there. Special mentions too for Helen Godlwyn and Nick Wilton - and Nick Briggs too (get well soon, Nick). A terrific story, and a fine way to end a truly gorgeous set. Loved it.

Just finished listening Certainly the highlight of the set John Dorney did a really good job and I think he nailed the ninth doctors characterisation perfectly
