Hey everyone,
What do we want to see in a new companion for Four? (I hope no-one minds me bringing up this old topic)

A talking cabbage with parsnips for arms and garlic bread for legs.

I always thought it would be interesting if Leela and Jamie met up, since they're more of the warrior type and are considered, at least by others, primitive.

As Tom was on TV as the Doctor for so long he has had several companions unlike the other Doctors who have benefited via Big Finish, with interesting new companions. I am far from bored with Romana and Leela and would like more with them rather than introducing others. However some adventures with Leela and Jamie would be most agreeable! Also if we get some more longer episode adventures like The Foe from the Future it gives the writers the opportunity to include characters like Charlotte from the village who acted like a one off companion.

I can just imagine Jamie being completely amazed by K-9 but taking a liking to him, probably reminding him of a dog that he used to hang around with back in his own era Scotland or something.

Maybe Four teaming up with an escaped convict and giving him a shot at redemption.

A feudal Japan Samurai? Amelia Earhart? Actually, would it be too ironic to actually do the cabbage idea?

Dale Earnhardt, Richard Petty in his prime or David Pearson.
oh wait, I think I'm in the wrong forum. Though i'll stick with my answers. The 3, the 43 or the 21.

Fearless, sort of quiet, and contemplating, though very excitable, and a younger middle aged man, who would be more inclined to act first and worry about the consequences later.

Perhaps the Doctor could have a series of stories without a regular companion at all. He often meets up with a sympathetic character in each story anyway (much as Charlotte from the village was), so thyey could be that story's 'companion'. I get the impression though, that Tom Baker likes to be surroundd by familiar faces when recording, so perhaps such an idea would sit well with him - although he was very keen when on television for his Doctor to travel alone.

Ohh lord do I HATE that idea he need companions to "stop him" like he's some wild animal.

Ohh lord do I HATE that idea he need companions to "stop him" like he's some wild animal. I think it's more the fact that he's such a powerful being and one of his biggest flaws is his arrogance, somebody needs to be there to make sure he doesn't do something stupid.

Is there some kind of timey-wimey way we can get Frobisher?

Is there some kind of timey-wimey way we can get Frobisher? Of course! This is Doctor Who we're talking about. Also: let's not forget Frobisher is a shapeshifter so he'd only need to take on the form of something other than a penguin and call himself something else when around the 4th Doctor.

Personally, I've always thought it was in terms of scale. His companions let him see the forests for the trees, the solar systems for the planets, the planets for the people, the people for the individuals. I think occasionally with his perspective, you'd loose track of things like that and grow complacent. +1 vote for the cabbage. All hail the mighty talking crucifer!
