EASILY the best CC special. Excitement, pace, likeable characters (I said Aisling would be a charmer) - and lovely deadly Daleks. Mrs Doyle tho...what an easy paycheck for Pauline McLynn! Love that the show is fully into the Doc-Yaz stuff now. This is companion-Doctor relationships, not fan-fic. Dan had least to do but John was terrific as the cupid between Yax and Jodie, and I love his horror about a New Year in Manchester. Proper Scouse, like. No "Why does Ryans dad think microwaves are new?" no "Why is Chris Noth back?" (we wont need to worry about that anymore....) just proper BASE UNDER SIEGE DW. It felt like one of those escape room events. AND SEA DEVILS.

Also, this one's Eve of the Daleks, the next is the Legend of the Sea devils,... so is the centennary The Master's Plan?

A 'rom-com' featuring Daleks, which is how this was billed, set alarm bells ringing. It shouldn't really work for me, but it did. I had a great time with this. It might have dragged a little in places, typical of the Groundhog Day style when things revert, but it was really well written, genuinely funny in places and truly exciting toward the end. I had a dreadful feeling that Dan was going to die. They wouldn't do that, would they?
Favourite bit was the scene between Dan and Yaz, lovely Yaz, when ... well, you know the one. I was expecting something along those lines, but it was stll very nicely written and played. Yaz is a favourite of mine and I hope she's alright. Loved Dan silently watching her and The Doctor giving each other furtive glances. Loved that.
The Daleks had a few good lines, my favourite being "I am not Nick!" (Yes you are, mate!)
As for the trailer for the first special - a proper punch the air moment! Did anyone know 'they' were returning? I didn't! And from that brief glimpse, they certainly looked better than they did when they met with the Fifth Doctor all those years ago.
Anyway, Chibnall/Whittaker's Doctor Who continues to really impress me more than I thought it would, and it makes me sad there's not much of the left to see.

The concept is central to the story, except it’s not consistently adhered to, and that’s a real disservice to the episode. I didn’t understand how everyone knew they had until midnight to get out of the situation and I also didn’t feel the passing of time with each loop. Time seemed to stay the same with each loop, only passing to the next minute when it reset, so I’m not sure why it’s suddenly stated to be passing towards the end, except for the fact it needs to serve the story. Same for the big fuss made about Nick dying at 23:55, as though he won’t come back in the next loop.
Having said all that, I really enjoyed it. It’s a lovely epilogue to Flux. The exposition was kept to a minimum and well integrated in an episode that would’ve actually been excused for featuring it heavily. And I liked the integration of Thirteen and Yaz, although unfortunately I think it’ll suffer from the pair only having two more episodes left; perhaps one for the expanded universe in the years to come?
Looking forward to Easter and the Sea Devils. Chibnall’s era has been consistently brilliant with bringing back old foes.

Absolutely brilliant fun. Unlike seasonal specials like The Time of the Doctor or Twice Upon a Time this was a proper special for all the family requiring no real prior knowledge of the show. It was obvious as to what was the cause of the time loop but it didn't matter, I liked the characters (so well cast) & the twist on the base under siege plot. & they really went there with Yaz & 13, & of course it was Dan someone who is new to the team to see what is so obvious to any outsider joining the gang. This is gonna make 13's final episode even more emotional for me.

I'm not quite sure what I watched.
An Aisling Bea routine with Daleks and a stroppy Doctor with John Bishop and Mandip Gill as a way better support act.
I Didn't hate it just made me feel Meh
3/5

Seems a bit weird to single out Time of the Doctor and Twice Upon a Time since a) they were regeneration episodes, b) this episode had just as much "requiring prior knowledge" in the fact that it was very much linked to Flux, and c) other episodes like The Christmas Invasion, The End of Time, The Snowmen, Last Christmas and Revolution of the Daleks are arguably not that standalone either.

Well, I really enjoyed that! Chibnall definitely saved his last NY special until last. The only real nitpicks I have are the fact that the weapon upgrade seemed a bit pointless, the whole "Nick not surviving past 11:55pm" didn't really amount to anything, and the "try, try and try again" speech was a bit too cringeworthy and rambly. Otherwise I enjoyed it.
Also shout-out to Chibbs because I wasn't actually expecting him to go that route with Yaz but I'm glad he is - will be interesting to see how it develops. I just wish he would have done it earlier because it's a far more interesting dynamic to the team.

I Didn't hate it just made me feel Meh 3/5 Regards mark687 I didn't take it as stroppy. She was short with Yaz because....two minutes to death. And instantly said somethin to diffuse it. And I would think the whole point there is that when two people are kinda realisin how they truly feel, the emotions can lash out. Especially if its a bit of denial, like The Doctor, or realisation like Yaz - it all felt real to me. And Aisling was terrific. Would you call it a routine if you did not know her as a comic and panel show type too? She was exactly what she needed to be. I know a dozen Irish lassies like her.

Well, since so much of CCs era has *ahem* paid tribute to RTD, it would seem The Doctor and companion only coupling at the very end, a la Doomsday, would very much be in character. It would be a nice dynamic if a romantic interest was a companion AND stayed on. River was always here and then away once more. Rose, well, as above. Clara and Matt may have had a chance but he left of course and Capaldi and Jenna was not that kinda relationship.

No it doesn't seem a bit weird. They were seasonal specials in a slot which attracts non-fans to the show. & this episode didn't require just as much prior knowledge, all it has was what was explained in the episode, the Doctor had destroyed millions of Daleks. An easy idea for non-fans who aren't clued up on the history of the show to grasp & was mere set up for the situation.

I mean they're clearly trying to set up Awkward Rejection or "I Love You" tragic Regeneration/Death I'm just not sure if it would have genuine impact. Regards mark687
