The Doc/Yaz dynamic I'm not sure, again another example of not settling on what drives 13. I mean they're clearly trying to set up Awkward Rejection or "I Love You" tragic Regeneration/Death I'm just not sure if it would have genuine impact. Regards mark687 Judging by twitter, it seems like it will. On the Fans maybe but I'd much rather Yaz do a Martha "I deserve more than the Doctor can offer" and walk exit. Regards mark687

I didn't take it as stroppy. She was short with Yaz because....two minutes to death. And instantly said somethin to diffuse it. And I would think the whole point there is that when two people are kinda realisin how they truly feel, the emotions can lash out. Especially if its a bit of denial, like The Doctor, or realisation like Yaz - it all felt real to me. And Aisling was terrific. Would you call it a routine if you did not know her as a comic and panel show type too? She was exactly what she needed to be. I know a dozen Irish lassies like her. Actually I'd call it a lazy written Irish Female streotype.

Regards mark687 I would call her Sue from my work and Niamh from my old work. There is - and my father was from Dublin and I have many Irish family members (hence the surname) a lyrical and vocal quality to the ladies of Eire you will not find elsewhere. Stevo and Charles if he is still around can tell us even better!

I did warn she wasn't my favorite comedian and the episode seemed to be written around the fact she was the guest star and the assumption everyone loves her Regards mark687

I think the one genuine misstep of this episode is Nick's characterization. It's really relying on the actor and humour to be able to sell the 'keeping exes mementos' as not creepy and if there was meant to be some kind of subtext with him about denial or even difficulties letting go because of some masculine ideal, it's not strong enough. Let it never be said Chibnall's not been the victim of really bad timing over his tenure, and with things like Sarah Everard and Sabina Nessa (both murdered by creepy dudes) in recent UK memory, stuff like this is harder to parse.

I don't know if this was strictly a favourite Dalek episode/story but, overall, this was a pretty great way to spend an hour on a Saturday night.
Yes, the next-time trailer did, indeed, make me very VERY happy...

For the most part I thought this was a really good episode and I had a lot of fun watching it. I thought the characters had some nice arcs through this. I loved Dan going up and tapping on the Dalek, staying close to stay away from the gun arm.
But I HATE the shipping of the Doctor and Yaz. I let out an audible groan during that scene. And I was hoping that when the Tardis healed itself it would have given us a all new interior. The dislike I have for this one is profound.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Well, I really enjoyed that! Chibnall definitely saved his last NY special until last. The only real nitpicks I have are the fact that the weapon upgrade seemed a bit pointless, the whole "Nick not surviving past 11:55pm" didn't really amount to anything, and the "try, try and try again" speech was a bit too cringeworthy and rambly. Otherwise I enjoyed it. Also shout-out to Chibbs because I wasn't actually expecting him to go that route with Yaz but I'm glad he is - will be interesting to see how it develops. I just wish he would have done it earlier because it's a far more interesting dynamic to the team. The weapon upgrade was to overcome the neutralising effect that the sonic screwdriver has on thei Dalek guns.

I really enjoyed that. I’ve enjoyed the other specials as well but this felt a lot tighter and sleeker, possibly because the cast was limited in number. The Daleks were genuinely scary in a couple of moments: having them appear right at the beginning of the loop in front of the characters made me feel as though they were several steps ahead of the Doctor right from the get-go. My biggest annoyance was that the characters seemed happy to let themselves be killed in a couple of scenes, which I don’t think would be the case, but that’s been a problem I’ve had with other timeloop stories as well (Discovery did one in its first season which was terrific except for how complacent the characters were about dying horribly over and over again).
Overall, though, I thought it was a success and it was also the first piece of television or film in a long time where I haven’t checked my watch or phone once during the run time.

Lots of fun, as expected. Didn't love Revolution but this one lived up to Resolution for me, making a good pair of stories worth rewatching on New Year's Eve/Day in some future year (possibly paired with a '96 vintage McGann).
Shipper Dan was a highlight; he would be the one to make the subtext into text, wouldn't he?
People don't half stand around chatting when time is short though!
(Edit: oh man, I didn't recognize Karl from the first Jodie ep at all!)

WOW, this has shot up there with my favourite eps for this era, if not easily Top 3. Everything just worked, from the direction, to the writing and plotting, to how amazing the entire cast were. I am very surprised that the production team is going to actually give light to a romantic interest between Yaz and 13, though if they were going to do it, it likely should have been sooner. I will say I very rarely actually care for romance between the Doctor and their companion, but it is nice to see that there might be a non-heteronormative relationship involving The Doctor. I suspect this is something that preludes what RTD will do in his second run as well, as I do think he likes to write romance, but nowadays, I suspect he will want a very different romance to the boy and girl fantasy of Rose.

It was ok, nothing ground-breaking another groundhog day type adventure but I'm bored of companions falling in love with The Doctor, Rose, Martha, Amy literally pounced on the poor ole Eleventh Doctor blah blah boring, Yaz I'm convinced will die saving the Doctor it'll be The Doctor i never told her how i felt scenarios.
Why does every companion need to be human? Why not have a alien companion or somebody who's immoral travel with the Doctor & as time goes on the companions thoughts evolve or change for the better instead of this lovey dovey twaddle.
Sea Devils next which has me excited.
2/5.

As far as I could see, the point of this story was to redesign the Tardis interior, give everyone a cardio workout and allow the Yaz/Doctor shippers to punch the air and shout in triumph. Apart from that - my thoughts are probably not going to sit well with anyone born after about 1970... I'm sure plenty of small business owners would love to live on the alternative Earth where you can maintain a viable enterprise for years on the income of one rented storage unit. How did he get all that stuff in there without her noticing? Because the lack of dust and cobwebs suggests she's been around with the industrial vacuum fairly recently, including the area he's marked off with police tape. And I've not done the maths, but I'm pretty sure that one alt-Earth minute is far longer than one of our minutes...
But these thoughts are all the result of the episode totally failing to grab me. Has it really taken multi-millennia in whichever universe for the Daleks to move up from single shot guns to gatlings? Really?

The tension slowly building, a bit of Groundhog Day action.. Yeah, Groundhog Day with Daleks ... I can't think of anything better!
I thought Eve of the Daleks was very good fun... for me it's one of the best Doctor Who episodes of recent years. I enjoyed it a lot. Sure, it's not original, but it's just the sort of thing you need to entertain you on a New Year's Day when you're on the sofa feeling the effects of the night before!
(Sarah even reminded me of my sister Catherine; a grumpy bitch that speaks her mind, but has a nice heart behind it all ! )

Never Eire That's a different word with a very different meaning.

Hello everyone!
Here's a little teaser of my review on 'Eve of the Daleks'
{Spoiler} Does ELF stand for something? I mean, you could’ve easily had ELF storage be a link to the North Pole or something where Santa, his elves and his reindeer live.
