Season 7 might be one of Classic Who's strongest season - Spearhead, Silurians, Inferno and then this one, which never seem to get as discussed as the other three but I think is every bit as good. Probably the closest to a grounded spy-conspiracy thriller as the UNIT era ever did, with humans as the main antagonists this time instead of just puppets or nuisances. Carrington might be one of the most different villains from this time in that he's, well, a trauma victim as opposed to a mad scientist or dictator. Possibly one of the few times the old show ever tackled PTSD (and in the military to boot), albeit more fantastical in origin.
But what did you think? The black sheep or another bullseye?

The Bullseye of the Season for me.
Pacey, a couple of decent blind alleys, the 2nd best use of Liz Shaw in the TV Series and as already said a somewhat more personel stakes and motivation from an antagonist then was usual at the time.

I love it. Maybe a tiny bit overlong, but still a great conspiracy thriller that really takes advantage of the new, grittier, grounded format. The Ambassadors are fascinatingly alien and Carrington is a great villain. The transmigration of objects is a strange power for the Doctor, but I like it when the Doctor is a bit more "wizard" than "scientist" Season 7 is the peak of the UNIT Era for me. I like the "coziness" of the later seasons too, but Season 7 is the one that uses the earthbound setting the best, I think.

I like it! The Ambassadors of Death is at least two episodes too long, but it's a really good story. Sure, it's not the best story of Season 7, but it's a lot better it's often given credit for.

A good story set in an optimistic time, when humanity had made it to Mars, the UK had a space programme, and the Doctor didn't just wave a sonic screwdriver around and use it like a Star Trek tricorder to tell them what things are etc. And the positive resolution of exchanging their ambassadors for our men. Good stuff. www.chakoteya.net/DoctorWho/7-3.htm for those who need a memory refresh without watching the show.

Been an age since I last saw it but I thought it was quite unique for the time. Bit overlong though.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I think it would make an excellent five-part story.

Great story, probably thought of as a lesser story because of the surrounding ones.
