Perhaps a coincidence, but DW has been mentioned on a few BBC shows recently. On Comic Relief night, a QI panel were laughing (not entirely accurately) at "Doctor in Distress". Last week, there was a round on "House of Games" about DW monsters. This week's "Just a Minute" had a round based on alternative uses for the TARDIS.

Anyone want to bet there'll be a redesigned (good) Mryka too? I wouldn't be surprised at all. If I was a betting man, I probably would bet on it... I'd love to see a well-designed Mryka to make up for past sins!

From what the trailer shows, this episode looks visually stunning. The Sea Devils are a great update of the original design, with even a few elements of Warriors of the Deep worked in. And who would ever have thought we'd see the Myrka on screen again?

The scale is off the charts. They threw everything at this production: sea monsters, flying ships, action above and below water, sword fights. Curse of the Black Spot looks like a stage play by comparison. And if that's the Myrka... well, why not.
Will say, apparently there's no animatronics in the Devils' heads, so wonder how they'll pull off talking. That one snippet was too brief to really tell.

Great trailer and loving the scale of it all. Good idea to emphasise that in the trailer as an epic standalone. Really hope this gets played a lot on the BBC channels between now and Easter; it deserves it.

Will say, apparently there's no animatronics in the Devils' heads, so wonder how they'll pull off talking. That one snippet was too brief to really tell. Craig Els mentioned in the latest DWM that the head is basically worn as a headpiece and isn’t a mask as such and believes post production will be done, so presumably any dialogue and mouth movement will be CGI. I believe Ray Holman and his department did everything for the Sea Devils and based on the new poster, looks like they did a few variants with different expressions.

It looks gorgeous. Really does feel like they’ve thrown the kitchen sink at it production-wise.

They might have put all the big-money shots in the trailer but yeah, it looks pretty amazing. (Better than 'Our Flag Means Death', certainly.)
And if it is a Myrka, it must have been eating it's Shredded Wheat.

I just... I don't think I've been this excited about any episode in years! I've been begging for Sea Devils for well over a decade, and they're finally delivering. And they look perfect! So perfect that you might almost think they've nicked them from the their original story... which is, to me, absolutely fine, but there was something very static about the background Devils. Very little to no facial movement. It was the bodies doing all the expressive work. Like I say, I LOVE that, but I could see that being something that really turns off viewers who don't know what the originals looked like. Also, compared to most New Series creations, these would seem really cheap-looking in comparison. They aren't featured super heavily in this trailer though, so I guess we'll see in a couple of weeks time. Also, I'd honestly convinced myself that there was only going to be one Sea Devil in this. The previous teaser and all the released photos only ever showed one, so I was preparing myself for the fact that we wouldn't see multiple. Guess who's beyond pleased to know he was wrong! Lastly... is that the Myrka? I mean, it could be, but it would be SUCH a departure from the original, and when you consider the lengths they've gone to in the name of authenticity for the Sea Devils, this thing being a Myrka would be a slight stretch of the imagination for me. Still, if it is the Myrka then this shameless Warriors of the Deep fan can't express just how thrilled his is by it! Roll on April 18th (broadcast date in Aus)!!! By the way, have I mentioned just how excited I am for this episode?

Funnily enough Titan had a comic in which a giant Myrka attacks a ship in the 1800s.

By the way, have I mentioned just how excited I am for this episode? Same here! In BF's Bloodtide, it was hinted (of I'm rememberin correctly) that the Myrka in Warriors was just an infant. This could explain this new version. They certainly do grow up to be big and strong - I love it!

I am in two minds. As a standalone this seems cool and looks visually wonderful. Yet with SO much still to be wrapped up with Division, lost memories, Jo, the warning from "Time" about a "Master", Yaz and The Doctors feelings, probable departures for Dan and Yaz, the Doctors "real" universe (or not) and a regeneration....it seems like an awful lot needs to be crammed into Jodie's finale as it doesn't seem like tonally any of that can happen here and I cannot see RTD wanting to be saddled with any of it.

Great point, although I think we’ve always known this since The Vanquishers, unfortunately. I think an ideal world would’ve brought us a couple of arc heavy specials this Easter, a nice break at August for Sea Devils and then the regeneration (and any concluding pieces) in the autumn. Do we know how “feature length” the centenary is? I’m guessing 75 minutes, aligned with previous specials to carry that banner, but maybe we’ll be fortunate enough to have it stretched to 90?

Only 50 minutes long, so less a Special more a regular episode set adrift.
To be fair given the last minute nature of its commissioning it's not that surprising.

Wonder it was actually made from spare cash as opposed to fresh cash, So they just threw it on Effects and the only fresh cash was Solely for the BBC Century/Regeneration Ep Regards mark687
