Does this story get highly praised by fans? If so then unlike the Daemons, I think it is. I did find the climax to be rather unresolved, but then again I assume Planet of the Daleks changes that. I also found there to be a bit of mean-spiritedness in most of the guest cast whenever the Doctor and Jo were under interrogation.
I do think the story is good and it’s a shame Roger Delgado died before he got to do any more stories as the Master.

I do think the story is good and it’s a shame Roger Delgado died before he got to do any more stories as the Master. It's overshadowed by the story following it. If the Daleks had been in more EPs it would more generally lauded, however time has proven there was enough building blocks to consturt a large portion of the expanded universe of BF and Novels around it. And it does have my favorite Jo and Master interactions. Regards mark687

Let's see. It's nearly 50 years old, and the view of life on Earth in the future which it gives is not one we'd go for now, probably. It's the Doctor's first trip in the mended Tardis, it's Jo's first trip off-planet, it's got the Master working for the Daleks and coping with Ogrons. It's a good tale. Season 10 was pretty solid, all in all. (memory refresher - www.chakoteya.net/DoctorWho/10-3.htm)

It didn't do much for me, I'll admit. Mostly because I found the sets pretty unconvincing, and the premise--as I recall--didn't do much to hook me. Granted, my big binge of Classic Who occurred a few years ago when my health problems were especially bad, often while I was sleep deprived and in significant pain, so stories that didn't really grab my attention were swiftly forgotten. That I remember FIS at all is indicative that it was better than average, even if not a favorite of that era.

I haven't seen it for a decade but I remember being really impressed by it when I last watched it. I'd had no memory of it on last watch and came away finding it filled with great dialog an almost Trek like world building (which is a plus for me). Pity what followed it though,.

No, Frontier in Space is not overrated... it's a good story from a great season. Like a lot of the Doctor Who six-parters it might be a bit long, but the story itself was great fun at the time. The best Master ever, angry Draconians, stupid Ogrons, and the three Daleks from Day of the Daleks!
Oh, and it set up the next story... which was even better!

Okay, I'm getting ancient. And I took my cues from the opening scenes.... Thanks for the correction.

They had no way of knowing Roger would die but his last scene as the Master is such a damp squib.

My only gripe is the ending which didn't for me transition well into the next story because why POTD is a great story we don't find out how Frontier In Space was resolved.

No. In the 2014 poll, the last major DWM one, it was 127th out of 241 (includes every story up to the 50th). So its just in the middle, which I think is a very fair rank, really.
And despite a usual consensus that it sets up a much better story...Planet Of The Daleks is surprisingly a mere 4 places above, at 123 out of 241. So still bottom half technically but middle-ish to be fair.
