Makes sense, given tomorrow is Colin Baker’s birthday. Day before the 15th Anniversary of Blink as well Regards mark687

Well, I bloomin' loved this - a high-concept use of the Angels with the meeting of the two Doctors integral to the plot. My take is up at CultBox.

God, that was fantastic! The setting of this one was brilliant. Fun, scary and the Angels are used brilliantly. I'm going to listen to this again, right now. Enjoy everyone!

Now this was really fun. The highlight is definitely the chemistry between Six and Ten. Absolutely one of my favorite pairings after Two/Three and Four/Eight. They're both arrogant and self-absorbed incarnations, so hearing them bicker all the time, especially because Sixie was easily annoyed by Ten being a motormouth, was quite hilarious.

A few years back, The Tenth Doctor meeting the Sixth Doctor for an exciting adventure with the Weeping Angels would be considered fanfic (other phrases are available). With BF, such meet-ups have become possibly too regular, often diminishing the 'special' nature of such events. Wink, however, immediately emerges as one of the better examples.
Wasn't Colin Baker the first Doctor-actor to suggest winking in the face of Weeping Angel? I seem to think it was, and that sentiment has been recreated and delivered with much delicious venom by Old Sixie.
I remember thinking how the first Out of Time audio featured a softened Fourth Doctor. Listening to the extras, Tom Baker expressed concern that his Doc was very rude to Tennant's incarnation and the dialogue was adjusted accordingly. Hearing a placid Fourth Doctor was highly unusual - happily the spikiness of Old Sixie has been left fully sharpened, and these two Doctors have no qualms about sparring with each other - and it is wonderful to hear, often laugh-out-loud funny lines ("They can't see what I'm wearing!" "They can probably hear it!"). While I still maintain the Angels are best as a visual threat, they're used really well here and I think this is the best audio outing for them.
The score, by Howard Carter, is excellent, heightening the spookiness of it all (especially the cherubs) - more than vaguely religious-sounding too, conjuring up the sacral aspect of the quantum-locked creatures.
I really liked this on several levels - expanding the mythos of these scary villains, lacing the dialogue with joyous self-referential moments, featuring some terrific performances and sound design. Great, great fun.

Absolutely loved it. I think the first is my favourite of the trilogy, but I think this is undoubtedly the best. Perfectly paced and plotted and top notch worldbuilding. The pairing of the Doctors is key to the plot and their interaction is brilliantly spiky. I wasn’t expecting Six & Ten to zing as well as with Four & Five, but I was happily proven wrong. Loved the use of the Weeping Angels too, they were threatening and the dialogue never once became exposition-y or descriptive.
Bravo to all involved!

Out of Time has been pretty fantastic overall (here's hoping we get more!) but my loose impression is 3 > 1 > 2; or, rather, I think Wink is the best of the lot. Possibly due to recency bias. But I intend to relisten to all three back-to-back sooner rather than later. If I'd been asked yesterday what my favorite pairing was, I wouldn't have had an answer. Now? 6/10. No question. Wink was amazing. If it's not the best release of 2022 so far, that's only because Peladon had four times as many stories to work with. In retrospect it seems kinda obvious. Colin Baker and David Tennant? Perfection. And with a good script, we'll, it's just the icing. Anyway, I can't say I really remember much 4/8 crossover. Was that in Legacy or somewhere else? EDIT: Oh, shit. Might this be our first unanimous poll? Fingers crossed....

EDIT: Oh, shit. Might this be our first unanimous poll? Fingers crossed.... Sorry, can't give it the full five stars. Much as I've enjoyed it, I think it demonstrates the weakness of the single-CD one-part format. At the same time there's no time to breathe yet the story isn't long enough. Incidentally, {Spoiler}as with "The Gates of Hell", we've ended on a cliffhanger. What IS going on?

The one I was looking forward to the least is the one I ended up enjoying the most. As noted above, 6 & 10 make for a surprisingly potent double act. The idea of a sightless species is kind of brilliant and the way the Angels were folded in, even more so. Top notch BF Doctor Who.

Incidentally, {Spoiler}as with "The Gates of Hell", we've ended on a cliffhanger. What IS going on? I don’t think it was that much of a cliffhanger in Wink, but rather a story beat. Ten ends the story as he began it; avoiding his song ending, despite attempts by the TARDIS to take him to where he needs to go. The Gates of Hell cliffhanger was a bit left field, mind. I wonder if that’ll ever get picked up on?

I would also add that Colin sounds happier on the extras than he has in dogs age.

That was unashamedly good fun! It was lovely hearing Colin and David sparking off each other. Looking forward to listening to this again on the weekend.
Now how would 10 and 7 go…? 🤔😉

Gave Wink a relisten this morning. Still a corker. I loved the use of the Weeping Angels and how they are a combination of their three Moffat penned TV appearances; quantum lock from Blink, the possessing of people from Flesh & Stone and the Cherubs from The Angels Take Manhattan. That collation of abilities adds a different threat to different sets of characters as the story progresses; reinforces their threat that could all too easy grate a bit on audio after some time. The angelic sound effect when they're moving is brilliant too.
I thought it was a great decision to portray Six as his TV persona. That's always my preference for Big Finish, as I often think Ol' Sixie goes too far in the opposite direction, but it's that particular portrayal that makes the interaction with Ten sizzle. They're both arrogant and spiky and aren't afraid to verbally spar with one another but always striving towards achieving their end goal. I think that's part of the magic of this trilogy really. On paper it's the opposite of what I'd usually want from Big Finish, but each one feels quite low key and intimate, all of them being Tenth Doctor stories that just so happen to feature another incarnation that essentially fills in the guest companion slot. Well done to Big Finish for that, to the point where I'd instantly pre-order another trilogy with, say, Three, Seven & Eight.

Finished this last night. Absolutely wonderful. Fun, atmospheric, exciting, interesting setting.... And 6 and 10 bounce off each other in perfection. And the Angels are a real threat. Near perfect. No better praise.
