You know, it honestly wouldn’t surprise me if the Thals turned out to be the great threat in this AU Time War and are presented as far worse than the Daleks could ever hope to be. As long as they’re not called “Thaleks”.

OHH wouldn’t it be interesting if the person putting the Warrior on trial was none other than the Doctor of Peace as played by Jonathan Corley?

This is a great idea and an instant buy for me. To date, we have never heard The Sixth Doctor and the Beevers Master encounter one another, correc?

Unlike the vast majority of classic Doctor releases announced over the past year, this one actually has me interested.

Introducing Colin Baker as the War Doctor. On the Really Quite Big List of the Top 100 Things I Expect Big Finish to announce... this was #1102. I kinda feel like it's a waste of time to even post in this thread. Like... the whole purpose of commenting here, now, is to express how we feel about the new announcement, right? I can't do that. I am sitting here, screaming in delight and anticipatory glee, trying to somehow articulate this giddy excite, ent through text. It cannot be done. The language is insufficient. The format is insufficient. I am insufficient. I suppose I could maximize the font size here, apply bold and italics, and append each sentence with a half-dozen exclamation marks. But I dare not subject you to that. Colin!!!!!!!! EDIT: In all seriousness, having Colin play the War Doctor is a stroke of genius. Looking forward to it. Loved him as a villain in Gallifrey. I hope these War stories are allowed to cross some lines and have some real darkness meat to them. Of course instant pre-order. It is no secret I adore the man.
I can't think of a single actor I'd rather see in this role. And for an alternate War Master? Yeah, Beevers is at the very top of that list, too. (Look, i have a lot of lists.) I've also been pining for more Unbound stories for ages... and this seems like a fantastic opportunity to both reboot the range and, potentially, deliver the "darker" War Doctor stories that some fans have been inexplicably wanting (not gonna comment any more on that here) since Moffat first unveiled the character.

in all honesty if we were to have an unbound time war doctor it should have been Paul McGann

I mean, we already have three different War Doctors--no reason they can't just keep recasting. I look forward to seeing Paul McGann, Chris Eccleston, Sylvester McCoy, and Alex Kingson all try their hand at the role.
And speaking of alternate Doctors, how cool would it be to see a "Doctor of War" prequel boxset with Tom Baker? One episode retelling Genesis of the Daleks with the one twist (again), one to show things spiraling out of hand, closing out with a regeneration story/Davison cameo.
The (necessary) absence of Sarah Jane in the story could, alone, be enough to send the Doctor down the "wrong" path.
EDIT: also, on the topic of the Dorney tease, given that the Daleks don't exist in this timeline, it's gonna be really weird seeing how the Time War ever starts in the first place. Maybe all of those other Temporal Powers from the GAL range wind up allying against the Time Lords? If we also assume that this less-inhibited Doctor becomes POTHCOG (that's out acronym of choice, right?) in his 5th incarnation, too, it'd make sense that the Time Lords, as a society, might be considerably more meddlesome in this continuity.

I’ll wait for reviews before buying because I haven’t enjoyed almost any of the Time War stuff but remain optimistic as I love Colin, Dorney’s tweet makes it sound like they’re going to go in loony directions and it’s got great writers. There’s enough here that 3 years back it’d have been instant preorder but my finances are a lot tighter now so I have to watch my BF spending a lot more closely.

Well Paul McGann should have been in the war doctor in the first place and i hope that Big Finish does something with McGann as a war doctor in the future
Somehow i cant see that happening as they already have the Daleks: Genesis of Terror LS coming out next year
Wasnt Sarah Jane the one that basically tried to convince The Doctor to wipe them from history?

Wasnt Sarah Jane the one that basically tried to convince The Doctor to wipe them from history? I don't remember well enough to be even slightly confident in talking about it... but my recollection is that, yes, when they discussed it Sarah took the, "kill Hitler," stance. But I'd argue that without her there, the Doctor may not have put as much thought into his actions as he otherwise would have. As became a theme in New Who, the Doctor takes companions because they help him to be "better." That the Doctor went to Skaro in the first place I dictates that he was, to some extent, on board with the idea of retconning the Daleks, so it makes sense to think of his ultimate refusal as something that could very easily have gone the other way. It's certainly a much smaller change to produce a much greater divergence than what the Master did in Anti-Genesis.

On the topic of McGann's Doctor of War, it would be great if in the future we could have a multi-War Doctor story, with Carley's Prime Universe one, McGann's EDAs Doctor and Colin's Doctor of War (if not more).

As far as I can see it doesn’t say as much in the article but I do wonder whose idea this series was. Honestly wouldn’t have surprised me had it turned out to be a suggestion from Colin Baker himself.

The point of divergence is probably that the Thal guard didn’t catch Sarah or she got caught by a Dalek and exterminated.
