Alternative title: the official Howard Carter Appreciation Thread.Surely I'm not the only one who's noticed just how much Big Finish's music and sound design has improved in the last few years, right? As far as I can tell, Howard Carter is to blame. Pretty much all of the releases that have most impressed me with regard to main theme, background music, and general sound design credit him, so... recognition is due, yeah? Some of the specific sets I'm thinking of: - The Tenth Doctor and River Song
- Dalek Universe
- Peladon
He also seems to be responsible for all of the Diary of River Song and War Doctor stuff. Further, when I did my big re-listen of Ravenous last month, I was very I pressed by the sound design in the big standout story, A Life in the Day... and, yup, that was Carter, too.

As far as I can tell, Howard Carter is to blame. Howard Carter has been doing sound design for Big Finish stories for years... and yes, his contributions are invariably top notch. Even some really average Doctor Who Main Range stories were lifted by his music and sound design. (Crimes of Thomas Brewster I'm looking at you!) MR-178 Fanfare for the Common Men deserves especially high praise though, as the music/sound design gave that story the 1963 atmosphere it needed, but I could probably list loads that really excel.
Barnaby Edwards used Howard Carter for the sound design on his vastly underrated Textbook Stuff audios and they are still some of the best sounding audiobooks out there. (Carmilla is probably my favourite one of those.)

Dalek Universe. The most epic sounding story.
