Featuring 11th Doctor
Trooper Stron has been given a great honour by Sontar. He’s been chosen as the rearguard on Ubreus, protecting that world against anyone who would try to pry it from Sontaran control. The problem is, no one’s coming to claim Ubreus, and that means there’s no one for Stron to fight…

Cracking little story. Interesting insight and worldbuilding on the Sontarans told in a format that plays to Dan Starkey’s strengths with a great payoff. I enjoyed the little interactions with Dudman as Eleven too.

Also really enjoyed this opener. I appreciate that the Doctor, despite Dudman playing him in the story, is a background presence. Dan Starkey performs it all with a lot of comedy imbued in how he says it, which is great in a narrated(semi-narrated) tale. If this is the quality throughout the set, I will be quite happy.

Oh welcome back Short Trips.
A cracking opener which does what these little stories do best. A bitesize glimpse into a particular corner of Who. The most tragic Sontaran story by far.

A proper Sontaran tragedy, an entire life from birth to death in forty minutes - sad and funny and exactly the type of story that this format is made for. You really feel the Doctor's frustration with the Sontaran way of life here and it makes me want to see Strax's first meeting with the Doctor all the more!
(Also this story pairs nicely with the Sontaran tale from Twelve Angels Weeping - which also dealt with the first few minutes of a Sontaran's life!)
