This week's Podcast - www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/big-finish-podcast-2022-04-03-stranded-4-2646Looks like Stranded 4's coming out sometime this week! I live in NZ we get Big Finish releases late at night so I'm already preparing for the inevitable night I stay late in bed to listen to it. And considering that the BF team are talking about how emotional this release will be (Particular Dorney's final story), I'm probably be still awake at 1am having just finished it and feeling like an emotional wreck. In a good way!

In a good way! I also just listened to the 15 min preview at the podcast and it sounds fantastic. {Spoiler} Loving the somberness and intensity at the beginning and Paul McGann's performance in particular. You can tell the Doctor (Now matter how much he tries to hide and deny it) Has been emotionally wrecked and devastated at the events of the previous story. Seeing the human race go extinct right before his eyes, and at the hands of someone he genuinely cared about and tried to mentor like a son is obviously heartbreaking for him. So hyped for this.

Oh, god. Liv and Helen are BOTH definitely leaving aren't they? I don't think my heart will be able to take it!

I hope we get a bittersweet ending as opposed to a heartbreaking one. I would especially love to see Tania, Liv and Andy start up a Torchwood base of their own, keeping these fantastic actors together for as long as possible. And maybe it's time for Helen to be given time wth just her and The Doctor, or a solo series.

Finally ending let’s hope it goes back to The classic Doctor/Companion Duo rather than Threes Company I doubt we will ever see an all male tardis team but hope springs eternal

This is quite possibly the most anticipated (and anxious!) I've ever been for a Big Finish release. It's pretty crazy to think we've following the trio of Eighth Doctor, Liv, and Helen for over SIX YEARS now. And the Doctor and Liv for even longer than THAT. Since 2011 with Robophobia! And with that trio likely to split at the end of this series, I think it's gonna be a pretty emotional experience for those of us who've listening for so long. Can't wait to have my heart broken tonight! (That's tomorrow for UK listeners!)

At the risk of embarrassing myself by saying something profoundly stupid, Stranded kind of makes me want to see the 8th Doctor's next "TARDIS Team" modeled after the Baker Street apartments. Instead of a sidekick, or sidekicks, we get a bigger cast of characters who just live on the TARDIS, sometimes getting involved in adventures, sometimes not.
Possibly because I have Star Trek on the brain and Trek has often been pretty good working with large, ensemble casts.
And also, I think, it's pretty certain that whatever happens in Stranded 4, this familiar TARDIS team/dynamic is going to end. And it's hard to imagine any conventional set up living up to what this trio will leave behind.

One of the things I (And you as well) have loved about Stranded as that it's basically 'atypical Doctor Who'. That's how Dorney and the other writers described it. I'm hoping that although the Eighth Doctor Adventures will be going in a more episodic, light-hearted format going forward, that they are still willing to build upon what Stranded started and push Doctor Who into new and exciting areas, formats, and story structures. It's what I'm sure RTD will be doing as well considering his (And Moffat's) comments.

So.. what if what everyone suspects is going to happen at the end.. Doesn't? What if certain companions were to stay on?

IF Companions stay I don't think we'll hear from them anytime soon, then possibly likely in Short Trips. Helen I think is the likely candidate to stay, (though I think she's developed into someone akin to a more mature Charley) Regards mark687

Happily today I have few meetings and am working from home. What a score. Time to marathon this set then. Crossed Lines{Spoiler} Big Finish really has it in for the London to Edinburgh line. Two releases within months have a train falling into some terrible plight.
More seriously, I quite liked this. It finally pins down the temporal mess this saga has tied itself in knots trying to explain and Colin Baker’s Curator is quite nicely done. He’s an older, wiser take on Sixie. The story of the Hermit and the shimmerlings was a really neat way to explaining the Doctor’s values.
Mr Bird being Robin is a godsend as it means that character can be involved without me having to endure his insufferable, whinny teenage persona. Said persona happily is barely involved, though once again he’s treating going to Edinburgh as some sort of permanent exile from the Doctor & co. It’s not that long on the train, honestly.

Get Andy{Spoiler} An unexpected way of resolving Andy’s cliffhanger status, with a rather ominous tribute to the Doctor’s travels with Helen and Liv and discussion of companion self-sacrifice…

The Keys of Baker Street{Spoiler} This was kinda weird. It’s so adrift. Once the Curator plays his hand everything plays out as you’d expect, but in a nice way.
As for the ending…oh they’re really going there. Well at least Robin can’t moan about not having his parents at home now (assuming they don’t throttle him for being so bloody irritating…god he would be the worst person to be in lockdown with).
