Adding two sets and extra year between releases has really left me nonplussed by a series I really enjoyed at the start. Once they’re all out I’ll listen to them all over the course of a month or two but have to admit I had a hard time recalling the details of the series going into set 4.

I'm not sure I'd really want them in audio format, but it'd be very nice if BF released short little recaps summarizing the most pertinent info from prior sets in these big ranges. The problem of forgetting where things left of has plagued me with... just about every single one of these multi-set arcs.

So is there anything announced after vol 6? I haven't purchased any yet but I know I will want to . Nothing concrete, but I get the impression from the 'extras' that the series had been extended to six sets, but that would be it. I'd be happy to be proved wrong though - I highly recommend it!

5.1 The Enhancement by Aaron Douglas
It's good to hear that theme music again, just as it is to hear Liv and Tula and their perfect chemistry. Not so much the plink-plonk of Joe Kraemer's comedy score every time something funny is said - a shame, because elsewhere, his music is expansive and cinematic. Anthony Howell, possessor of one of the greatest voices I've ever heard (the things I could say with a voice like that!) is another welcome returnee as Crick. I'm pleased to say I suspected something was not quite right with the poor lad from the off.
This is a good opening tale. Intelligent, often subtle and true to the spirit of The Robots we've heard so far. Liv and Tula, one of BF's original double-acts, are kept apart most of the time, allowing us to see (or hear) beyond their wonderful sniping.
One of the main things I take from The Enhancement is that the story 'needed' telling, as it builds greatly on what has gone before, but also it forms more of the bigger picture likely to be explored here and in Set Six, rather than simply extending the ongoing tale just because of the acclaim heaped on the series thus far. World building - and a very convincing world at that - at its best.
A lovely start.

Finished it! One of the few ranges left right now that can get me to instantly listen. Perfect if the weather was average and there was a holiday in Germany today. This set was not quite the breathless thriller we had the last couple of times. This time, it takes it's time and the threat works in the background, slowly encroaching. Yes, it was pretty clear to me from the start where this was headed (and it ended in a cliffhanger that was even lampshaded several times before, which I though was quite clever). But it was the journey that mattered and the way the threat took hold and surprised Liv from behind. I still like this range. For me, it is a fresher take at some tried and tested old plots and thankfully, not a screaming Dalek in sight. I am so sick and tired of Daleks. Urgh. Yes, the stories themselves are not extremely original, and the underlying storyline about AI and robots taking over a world is not something we have never heard before. But it is the way it is presented. A haunting thriller, building up underlying threat, raising some goosebumps here and there, and it just lives and breathes through it's characters. The two leads just carry this. They have some deep chemistry and it is totally believable that these two are real life sisters. During this story, we get plots and counter plots, we get identity theft, shady politicians, creepy corporate types, terrorists, rogue AI, nicely packed into the story of two sisters trying to get along with each other, living together and trying to make it through a normal working day. I especially liked the third story, which has a nice "real-time soap opera" vibe to it. That was really clever. So yes. This continues to be one of my favorite ranges and in my opinion one of the best ranges BF is currently running. Writing and performance are amazing.

Any range featuring Nicola Walker & Claire Rushbrook as its leads demands attention. Those ladies are serious, heavyweight British talent.

For once I not months behind and decided to jump right in only a couple of weeks after release.
To tell the truth, I was expecting the episodes to be more self-contained, but it looks like we are getting one 6-part story about the Enhancement chip and the ramifications of that. Once I realized that, I just went along for the ride.
It has been fun and the third story shows that if you give Liv Chenka only some of the information, she might send things in a direction that you didn't really want.
Now we have another 6 months until the conclusion.

I liked it a lot but not quite as much as the other sets in this range. To be honest, I forgot some of the ongoing threads from previous sets, so I went back and started them all over again. I'm just about finished with Volume 2, and I'm very glad I decided to do this. Getting to hear David Collings again is a treat. What a wonderful range.

I’ve only listened to part 1 so far, so have had to “not read this thread at all” while bravely skipping to the end to say…. That was definitely up to the excellent standard of this series so far in my books. It maintains the slow-build pacing well, while never being boring, plus there’s more than a dash of sisterly banter, which is as good as always. Roll on the second story! My favourite range currently.
