I quite enjoyed this story when I saw it last week. I know there were behind-the-scenes clashes, but I still think the story turned out good. The performances were ok IMO, the special effects (the original ones) do leave a lot to be desired however.

I actually think the visual effects are a saving grace.
Its a before they were famous cast with some really dodgy performances.
But its still better than Creature in the Pit.
So not really (again IMO) its an average story with an average rep.

Over/underrated are entirely useless terms and things to be concerned with, IMO. Why care what 'the majority' think?
Did I enjoy it? Whether yes or no, that's fine. And in either case, I'm sure I can find people to celebrate/commiserate with.

Yes! I think the 'my arms, my legs, my everything' silliness has given this tale a unneccessarily bad press. Three cracking cliffhangers, some terrific performances (David Daker and Barry Andrews), together with a surprisingly dark central storyline - I always really enjoy watching this.

Just making a personal comment on the thread at hand.

Yes it is. I admit, again, I have a massive soft spot for 70s futurism, all beige walls and random flashing lights. Tom’s a fine form, and the whole drug dealer plotline gives him a chance to genuinely angry at someone. The mandrill costumes are suitably alien. The guest performances range from “barely awake” to “okay, I know who took all the cocaine”. There are some nice sub-Holmesian digs as officials and officialdom.
I’d watch it before Iwatched 99% of Tennant or Smith.

I'd say so, yes. I'd heard negative things about this story so I was a bit wary going into it when I binged S17 recently but I actually quite enjoyed it myself. Yes, there were some parts where I rolled my eyes but overall I enjoyed the plot.

Well, I didn't like it... what others thought of it will vary, and as it's a Tom story Nightmare of Eden will have its fans. For me it's not a great story though, in fact, I found it quite tedious.

It’s not my favourite story, but Lewis Fiander is a hoot as tryst.
I will admit I’m surprised that Big Finish hasn’t brought the Mandrels/vraxoin for Torchwood. Feels like it’d be a shoe in.

I enjoy it it for what it is a bonkers story featuring a hilarious OTT performance from Tom Baker.
Give me this over The Horns Of Nimon anyday.
