Not a casting thread, not about which actor you want for 14: I'm talking about the characterization, the personality, the writing. Is there some particular facet or personality you'd like for the new incarnation? Do you want more of a rough'n'tumbler, or a dashing swashbuckler? A gadget boffin, a rigorous detective or maybe even something sinister?

This ^ is probably the hardest question to answer.. Also a Great question.
So many facets to balance, BBC obviously want ratings/make $ on merchandise etc. We all just want strong consistent stories with the right person chosen to portray the character.
Someone that just stands out, that embodies the character. To me looking back at David T, he was very engaging- you were drawn to him.
Someone with an air of authoritativeness, a touch of arrogance when needed, yet very kind . Someone that goes for the offensive and not "waits".. Someone that dominates the room in a scene I guess.

I Think if we had to choose a personality for 14 i would hope he would be the opposite of the former doctor
More Serious almost Byronic hero however capable of compassion and kindness

More confidant with Companions and Situations
Capable of picking on emotional and Social cues.
The Click with factor which is hard to put down (2nd. 4th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 12th, all different styles but all had it.)

difficult one because i think it depends on who is cast but she has to be charismatic, someone you want to travel with and can inspire. That is a core trait of Doctor Who. But maybe someone a bit more alien in their nature this time and unpredictable?

Pondering, has anyone ever compiled which hand each Doctor uses?

Pondering, has anyone ever compiled which hand each Doctor uses? Not 100% sure about the last couple of docs, but I think they have all been right handed.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I thought Colin Baker was left-handed. You could well be right, I don't claim to be an authority I’m basing it all on a memory I have of seeing Colin’s watch on his right hand, and I’m not 100% sure on where I saw that (I am left-handed so I notice that a lot more than usual).

I'd be interested to see a Doctor who is a little more reserved / less manic than they've been in recent incarnations. Something more in line with Capaldi's more stoic moments, McGann's more thoughtful/considered responses, or McCoy keeping his cards to himself until just the right moment. Not necessarily any single one of those things, but something along those lines.

Very analytical tempered by moments of sheer weariness or ebullience.

I love the balance of light and dark, early brooding Tom Baker, bouncy but filled with tragic emotion Paul Mcgann, doesn't suffer fools rude Peter Capaldi, prone to rage but also sudden joy Christopher Ecclestone, wise and mature John Hurt. Above all of kindness, compassion, alien, eccentric and up for adventure. What's really important when casting younger actors is that they can portray the characters age and genius, Matt Smith did this really well, I feel recent years have not given Jodie the chance to show age and wisdom, hopefully Big Finish can remedy this.
All the actors cast since 1963 have had something special, the less regarded Doctors have been let down by troubled production teams, Big Finish have been able to showcase the talented performers and bring each Doctors distinctive quirks to life. I love them all.

Age. I really don't care for the Doctor being characterized as "youthful." They're an ancient, immortal being with an immense amount of experience, good and bad, and very familiar with trauma--both receiving it and inflicting it.
i just... really want the sense that there is far more to the Doctor than there seems to be at face value.
Which, of course, is totally independent from the physical age of the actor. Matt Smith, for example, did a fantastic job of portraying the Doctor's incredible age despite being so young himself.
