Any reviews online yet, I'm interested but don't want to invest in a 6 hour listen until I've read some reviews? I’ll have one up on IndieMacUser soon. Quick thoughts it has a really slow start and probably could use a second listen but it’s definitely a Kate Orman story and that’s something everyone needs.

So far, I’m about 2/3 of the way through the story, and enjoying it greatly. Ben and Polly in their respective undercover roles seems quite true to the era, and the main characters are well defined. I’m savouring the way the Doctor is written (and performed!). Mostly, I hope this isn’t the only dive into the Doctor’s past we get from Kate Orman.

I've not had the chance to read any Kate Orman, I've got some of the new adventures sitting on my shelf for a rainy day, the Left Handed Hummingbird and Set Piece. I'm keeping an eye out for The Year of Intelligent Tigers, I hear that's a good one. The Dead Star really interests me but the reported slow start has me wavering on the fence.

Oh look the one person who voted has given it a 1 and not made any comments. Finished this today and yep, it's Kate Orman and that's brilliant. Also it's a very 1960s story and the slow start only helps it succeed so anyone worried about that shouldn't be.

Really frustrates me when someone leaves a 1 star review without comment, just leads me to think it’s trolling, a couple of sentences explaining why would be adequate. Could someone tell me a little about Kate Orman, what's her style and is there any info on line about her?

My experience of Kate Orman books might be more limited than some, but I have read BBC Eighth Doctor novels Vampire Science (with Jonathan Blum), Seeing I (with Jonathan Blum) and Unnatural History (with Jonathan Blum). All three I remember being utterly brilliant and captivating, as was Sixth Doctor novel Blue Box.

Just downloaded now, the feedback has twisted my arm.
Looking forward to a long listen, it'll probably take me a couple of weeks to finish, with work and family life, listening on my drive to and from work should give me 30 mins a day.

Elsewhere on the forum I have been vocal about the recent BF international buyer price increase, and the value vs cost of living issues.
Having said that:- This series of audiobooks has been wonderful. Irrespective of what else may fall by the way-side in the coming years (insofar as my ability to follow series produced by BF), I will support and buy these at full price.

Finished this, and smiling like a goon. I loved this story.
To address some questions about what’s special about Kate Orman - I personally loved the way she wrote for the Seventh Doctor (and Eighth!). Her contributions to the Virgin New Adventures have a very special place in my heart at a time when Doctor Who was in the outs.
Seven is manipulative, but I think people overlook the Second Doctor. He is perhaps less obviously in control, and often is dismissed by those in authority. But Jamie, who is perhaps his most openly faithful and critical companion sees his manipulative tendencies in a simple way that highlights the dark side of the Doctor. The Second Doctor will take matters into his own hands to ensure a threat is over. Or to push a situation along. Sometimes this seems forgotten about, but it adds a great layer to his character.
In the Dead Sun, the main characters have agency, and Ben and Polly are well served. The story begins sedately, but the imagery, authentic characterisation of the Doctor and his companions, and introduction of several new potential threats in the Universe and on Earth are handled lovingly and adroitly.
I would love to see Kate Orman write more for the second Doctor. If that was at BF, I’d be delighted. To see her tackle Ben, Polly and Jamie, or Jamie with Victoria or Zoe would be amazing.
10/10 for me.

I know what you mean about difficult choices when it comes to cost of living, I had some Christmas money to buy a couple of plays this month but going forward I've had seriously reduce my spending, most releases that interest me I'll have to see how they review before purchasing. 7 hours of quality writing is well worth £17.99. A couple of last year's releases made me feel I'd wasted my money, with money even tighter this year I can't take the chance. I think the only guaranteed immediate purchase for me is the War Master range.

Just finished episode one, loved it, the weird opening was wonderful, I think I'll need a second listen to take in the strange parallel London imagery.
Really promising start, enjoying the writing and excellent narration/performance from Michael Troughton 9/10

Much fun to be had but I did think that, due to Troughton's vocals, Scapinelli (typo I'm sure) was initially going to be a {Spoiler} a young Thatcher!!!

I'm towards the end of episode 5, this is brilliant, the change of setting from episode 4 onwards feels almost like 2 3hour books, the story style change between parts 1 to 3 and 4 to 6 feels just right as keeping the status quo of the first half would have gotten boring.
Can't recommend this audiobook enough, very well written and narrated. Glad I took a chance on this one 5/5
