UNIT vs NPH?
And more from the set. Yep, there it is. Plain as day. Of course, the Ssgn could be a giant misdirect ala Missy, but thus far, the shoe fits.

NPH as the Monk would work….. all serious and scary and then BAM “well, it’s all a laugh, isn’t it Doctor?” abd yet still in character.

Pandemonium in the streets, brawls and our (potential) Toymaker goes Astaire.
And well, of course he'd do this:
'Hi Doctor, it's your Uncle Bingo. Time to pay the cheque.'

Also its his Birthday Regards mark687 Part of me wonders if Neal Patrick Harris is the celestial toymaker Would big finish ever do audios with him or simply cast an impressionist?

Now I’m starting to wonder if he even is playing the Toymaker. Certainly a lot more theatrical than I imagine the character to be.
Mind you, I suppose it all depends on how he plays him.

I cannot fathom a world where Neil joins Who and isnt theatrical, its pretty much his shtick when on guest shots, add his quotes and the look..seems it. Not since Alam Cumming was cast did I think I could see, if not the performance, then the kinda realm the actor would take it based just on who they are and pics.

Going from Geppetto to Fred Astaire feels very in keeping with the that Victorian/Early 20th century dark nostalgia quality to the character. He has surrounded himself with overgrown schoolboys, puppets and clowns before, and the audios/books established he can change appearance - is this really such a big stretch? After all, the Toymaker's schtick is 'Ultimate Manchild with God powers'.

Time's in flux in Bristol.
Either because of a time machine, or our villain has reality bending powers.

From what I can see on twitter, I'm guessing they're filming pieces of the 3 specials. #1 set in present day with Beep the Meep #2 ? ? ? #3 set in 1925 with the Toymaker (a clapboard seems to call the filming episode 3)
add: but it looks like Toymaker is in some scenes with extras in modern-day clothes so who knows

Toymaker …. Or Trickster? Remember, the Trickster did have his talons into Donna once before, maybe this is all inside Donna’s head and the Doctor only looks like her Doctor because she didn’t know about regeneration and when we see Gutwa for the first time, he’s unplugging himself from the TARID telepathic circuits fresh from saving Donna? Because I reckon there’s a lot of stuff going on in the Whoniverse that Donna couldn’t ignore that would trigger her suppressed memories, a chink in her defences giving rhe Trickster a way in to cause havoc and pain for the Doctor by killing Donna.

I feel like Trickster's a more subdued, shadowy character. Everything so far seems to point to whoever NPH is playing, Toymaker or not, is much more overt and in the field, taking the fight straight to the Doctor whereas Trickster's past schemes were more about creating chaos from a distance or creating a chain of cause and effect.
Plus, unlike Toymaker, his actor's still very much alive and had worked with RTD prior, so I can't see him being shafted for a stunt cast of an actor who's about as far away from Trickster as I can imagine, losing a good chunk of the kind of nostalgia factor you'd get if that was the plan.

I’m also surprised that no one has suggested it’s the Toymaker because someone’s recovered the original episodes (which was suggested when rhe Great Intelligence turned up).

doesn't gareth roberts own the rights to the trickster? i doubt rtd would reuse him if that's so.

Another director confirmed from Bristol, Chanya Button (Spanish Princess, Vita & Virginia)
Since we know Talalay's still directing remotely, and the slate doesn't have a / for both, then this would confirm we are getting more than one special.
Of course, this then invites: if Tennant and Tate are filming in Bristol with Button, then what could Talalay's have been overseeing, hmm...?

Yeah and given Gareth’s comments when someone asked if he would come back as writer for Series 14 he refused to work with RTD again Don’t see why big finish couldn’t ask him for permission to use the trickster for the audios though
