Reassuringly, BF won’t go over a cliff. [ Unpopular as their pricing decision is with me, I really don’t want to see the company tank. ]
Other companies have shareholders, so price gouging happens. …but, BF has a single shareholder in JHE, who does not profit from BF in that manner (makes money elsewhere, produces Doctor Who out of love)
OS pricing for downloads was set as it was because, in a parochial sense, people weren’t paying the same for items across the world. (Shoutout to a can of coke, wine, and the pebbles).
Personally added note: In 2008 2.59 AUD = 1 GBP. In 2022 1.77 AUD = 1 GBP.
But, as mentioned, we’re all going through a cost of living crisis.
It does sound like the increased price is to defray some of the cost of CD production, and distribution. Which sounds insane, as those costs are negligible for downloads.
🤷🏻♂️

Nick does say that they decided not to go ahead with the increase in base £ prices because of the cost of living crisis and, although he doesn't phrase it a bluntly as me, basically seems to be saying that the FX rate for international customers was the low hanging fruit / easy target when it came to BF increasing their revenue

Because as you can see in the "overseas pricing thread", it might not have been the easy picking it appeared as.
But only time will tell.

Well the recent announcements - 8th Dr TIme War, Dark Season & War Master - all seem to confirm that no rises in base sterling pre-order price for UK CD buyers like me.
For now anyway . . . .

I think the issue is they can’t / won’t be restrictive enough for such an initiative to not get out of hand. There are so many jumping on points that they will feel the need to list them and it ultimately detracts from the original intention. I remember the article they did about jumping on points a couple of years ago and they just listed pretty much every single range they have with little detail about any releases within them.
And of course unless they make the pricing attractive, then it’s just going to be a sticker on the product with little traction. If they can’t get someone interested in Big Finish through buying, say, Out of Time or The Diary of River Song, then how are they going to get that same fan to plunge for Dark Eyes or Beyond War Games?

Maybe they should have tried a bit better to not to let them jump off in the first place! Yes. All to little to late. Not for me. They may not be perfect, but I love 'em, even after all these years
