And if someone wants to be the board crank, they have that right as well. Again, I don’t see how that is unkind to anyone. Fair Enough still Peeves me off a bit though Regards mark687 You are not alone in that. However, at a guess, this is exactly the kind of attention a "board crank" is trying to create, so best to just ignore them and let them steam in their misery alone.

Nearly finished London Orbital, still early days for 7 travelling with Sullivan and Cross, not sure how long until 7 returns them to their original time but there's plenty of potential for an interesting run of adventures. I see in the polls someone has scored this story 1/5, that feels really harsh, I understand it may not be to everyone's taste but 1/5 is rather unkind. I also noticed the same score for Paradox of the Daleks and The Dalby Spook, again a really unkind score for two (my opinion) pretty decent adventures. To me a 1/5 is the kind of score you give to a truly terrible production with little to enjoy all round, something like Battlefield Earth or Batman & Robin. I thought this story, though not perfect has a lot going for it, decent pace, interesting concept, strong story journey for Harry Sullivan and with a small cast a solid amount of world building. Unkind to whom? People are allowed to A) really, really dislike something while assigning a score that fits with their reactions and B) feel differently than you. By unkind I mean to the production in general, yes people are allowed to really dislike something but if you really think about the work that goes into a production and all the people involved, giving 1/5 is really trampling over the efforts production staff, writers, actors, the director, sound effects, score composer and also those marketing the product. These are human beings after all and by anonymously scoring 1/5 ( on multiple occasions) without context, you're giving no constructive feedback and not allowing healthy debate with those who may disagree. Also on a personal note, I often use reviews, polls and average score to decide whether or not to buy on some ranges, just leaving anonymous 1/5 scores is really, really unhelpful and doesn't lead me to consider someone feeling different to me, it makes me think of them as a cowardly troll incapable of articulating their feelings into anything reasonable or considered.

I liked this boxset. At first, having elves in the story seemed strange, ( although apparently there were precedents that they do exist in the Whoniverse) but the writing, characterization & voice acting was very good & I found myself immersed in the story. I found it a bit amusing that it was Sylvester who was in a story with elves, for real life reasons. 😁
Having just finished listening to Unit Nemesis 3: Objective Earth, I proceeded to this boxset & found that the backwards way Harry & Naomi’s adventures were told (Unit, then 7, then 4), didn’t bother me as much as I thought it would. Especially with Harry, since he did have adventures with 4 in the tv series & so 7’s resultant familiarity with him felt plausible to me. I just mentally slotted his upcoming adventures with 4 in the 2024 boxsets to be in between his tv appearances & their encounter with 7 in these stories.
When their box sets with 4 are finally released in 2024, I’ll probably give their whole run a relisten in chronological order to see what that experience would be like compared to this There was a mention of dropping off another companion in their correct time, so is it possible that person might also appear in 4’s boxsets despite currently not being listed in the cast list? We’ll see.
The 2nd story was also good. It felt either very short or was a fast listen? Anyway, it might have dragged if it had been lengthier, so the pacing in this was just right, I felt.

Scream of the Daleks….a much more enjoyable story than the preceding tale. I’m at the point where I think those stories that show restraint with how the Daleks are utilized are the more effective Dalek stories. This is the first story where I felt Harry & Naomi as characters felt unique and specific to the stories they were in. I do also think they work better separately than together. I still don’t see the point of them but this story used them in a way that made sense to me. Anyway, AWOL was a significant step up from the previous 7th Doctor set.

Working through my backlog and finished this set today... both stories weren't bad - neither blew me away but I liked it more than the previous Seventh Doctor set. Nice to have more of a fantasy take on Who with elves and the Dalek story was fun enough but seemed a bit silly (although very in line with Classic Who) to keep the Daleks as the cliffhanger... despite the title including them in it.

As I loved the Ribos sequel and even enjoyed Tinseltown, I went into this with high hopes but have to say I found “London Orbital” tough going. It just dragged and none of the characters popped for me. It’s my first Naomi audio and I don’t really know her at all by this point. To be honest I feel this sort of fantasy storytelling is hard to do with the story length and the size of casts that Big Finish allows. Further, without the cast or length being able to be large, I think it might have worked better if the characters themselves and the actors might have “gone large” (i.e. eaten up the scenery/gotten hammy).
Just personal opinion and here’s hoping I get more out of it on second listen.

Gosh I looooved the first part of Scream of the Daleks - super effective little Halloween 60s festival tale and while part two still had some great dialog and characters m, I can’t help but feel it would have been better with less Daleks in it (maybe none at all). I felt they dragged the mood of the piece down a bit, though 7 did get some amazing lines in about them (“Sgt Peppers Hateful Pepper Pot Band” or whatever it was was such a perfect 7 line). Overall a 3/5 though part one was a strong 4.
