The moment that gave me so many nightmares as a youngster is just after the 7 minute mark onwards ...
Was it the guy emerging from a pile of leaves?

Was it the guy emerging from a pile of leaves? It was. That sequence stayed with me for weeks!

With Kaleidoscope down, I have now listened to what may very well be my last impulse-buy. I suspect my collection of 3DAs is going to suffer quite a bit for the new pricing scheme.
Anyway, this sure was a weird episode, huh? I'll readily admit that I didn't much care for it at first. The titular Kaleidoscope, as a character, simply was not very interesting to me (and never became interesting as the story progressed) and I found the vocal performance lacking. It's hard for me to fully articulate why -- it just had the sense, the vibe, I suppose, of like a high school drama student trying way, way too hard to his a single characterization beat. Let's just say... it did not work for me.
What did work for me? Well, I loved the transition into Cold War espionage drama! That was such a fun little diversion, right? In retrospect, it seems a bit odd to me how few 3rd Doctor stories play around with either the whole "secret agent" motif (given that era and its Doctor was deliberately meant to be evocative of James Bond) as well as the whole Cold War thing. Which, come to think of it, wouldn't the Soviet Union have some say -- some direct involvement, even -- in the operation of UNIT? The USSR was one of the founding members of the United Nation, and while I don't know when the Soviets got their seat on the Security Council, I'd assume it'd've happened by the 1970s. Probably.
Also gotta shout out the Brigadier getting some good scenes in during the climax. Good stuff.

Just finished listening to it. Yes, that was lots of fun. I actually listened to it over the last 3 days, which I don't do often.
While I did catch them wrapping up the nanobots plot into a nice box, I thought there was going to be more with the rock star and his claims. I must have missed something there.
Some good cliffhangers and suspense even knowing who has to survive.
