Cover looks like the platonic ideal of a 3rd Doctor story that the BBC never had the budget to actually try making back in the 70s.

On paper this looks like it could be a lot of fun - no obvious returning elements either - yet. Alan Barnes is the drag factor for me too, but I did enjoy Planet of Witches so there is a precedent for good recent stories from him still. Fingers crossed!

I don’t understand the Alan Barnes dislike. I usually enjoy the stories that he writes. The only issue I remember having with any of his stories is that he has too many ideas - which as complaints go isn’t a very harsh one.
I guess I will have to do a search on his stories to try and workout what I must have forgotten about…

Harry Sullivan’s making an appearance in this? Blimey, with his upcoming appearance in a Seventh Doctor set they’re really pushing him at the moment, aren’t they?
Mind you, I’m not complaining!

Harry being in a 3DA always seemed to me that it would happen at some point, so very glad to hear it. The story sounds quite epic and very fun so I anticipate this greatly.

That's one of the best unintentional gags of Classic Who ruined The Brig keeps reaching for the phone to call him in in Planet of Spider and the Medical issues keep resolving themselves before he dose![/spoilers]

Halfway through and thoroughly impressed. The plot could have come from Series 7 and definitely takes enough twists to justify its extended runtime.
So far, one of, perhaps even the strongest Third Doctor adventure yet.

Wow! That was certainly a story of two halves!
Difficult to write about without spoilers. At times deadly serious, at others laugh-out-loud fun.
Undoubtedly one of the strongest and most unpredictable stories this year.

I was on the fence if I should get it or not.... the whole Space Messiah thing turned me away.
But this is some great praise.

I really wish I could go into more detail without spoilers, but it certainly went in a wholly unexpected direction.

I think I'm about to go careening off one side of that fence, myself.

Also, anyone have any guesses/hopes what is on the docket for next years two 3DA's? A Jo Grant seems a sure thing, but if not, what about 3 and SJS or 3 and Liz vs Iris?
