Shireen’s not exactly enjoying being sectioned, but she’s been in worse places. That psychiatric unit in Brecon was a right dump. This one’s alright, though. There’s table tennis, art therapy and they even get to do a bit of gardening. There’s only one problem. Shireen’s roommate. Toshiko –she’s a total space cadet, convinced the unit is overrun by aliens. Yeah, right.
Trailer is out now as well.

Good story and Definite Mature themed
Very up front and to the point with the subject matter almost to the point I'm surprised it got approved.

Great release, I definitely enjoyed it, but yeah, it was certainly a tough-listen at times...

So then - {Spoiler} racist Head Nurse Felicia is solving her staffing crisis by getting rid of ethnic minority patients and blaming everyone around her, including the 'suckers' of the title. Curiously, her racism doesn't extend to Japanese Tosh, played beautifully as always by Toshiko Sato. At the end, Felicia is offered a promotion by a white official, who is, of course, also a racist. And the music rolls in.
I'm not sure how I feel about this. Isn't it insulting to those who work in the profession of looking after each other? The central theme overshadows all the other excellent qualities this story has. As I say, I honestly don't know how I feel about it.

The whole play leaves a stark impression on every theme its making a point on. Have you heard the Interviews? The Writer has worked in the profession, he's turning up for dramatic effective some negative traits he experienced in the field. Simlair to what I Posted Up Thread I felt it was strong and effective stuff but I'm quiet surprised it got approved. Regards mark687

Regards mark687 Yep, I heard the interviews where the writer talks about his experience and how his story presents the truth. {Spoiler} I absolute respect his honesty, but I also have some experience and the idea that the whole system is so structurally and inherently racist is at odds with that.

One of the more difficult listens of the range. Very well performed.
The last scene was a little too absurdly evil for me. I think they’d done a pretty good job of depicting the racism built into the system without that unnecessary conspiracy angle.

I think they’d done a pretty good job of depicting the racism built into the system without that unnecessary conspiracy angle. You've said what I was going to - if anything the final scene was just a bit too twee and detracted from, rather than added to, the overall quality of the piece. Having been something that I felt was hard-hitting about real world problems of racism, almost a kitchen sink drama if you overlook the alien monsters, it then undermined the power of its own message by veering off into more of the conventional thriller staples of fantasy conspiracy theories, etc. Unless of course there is a follow up sequel planned for which this scene was laying the groundwork, then we could maybe look at it differently.
