Surprised I wasn’t beaten to this thread. A spin-off series following Rani Chandra post-SJA, featuring Clyde and Gita! First volume for release in April 2023, the second December 2023.
Truly we live in the golden age of 2000s nostalgia.

I cautiously look forward to this, though I don’t have nostalgia for the Sarah Jane Adventures, so the characters outside of Sarah Jane do little to excite me. That’s also a super clunky title that doesn’t work imo.

She was great in the recent Eighth of March box, which was a sort of pilot for this. Instant preorder from me just now.

It’s announcements like this that make me wish we got the full information revealed; cover, synopsis, trailer, etc.
I love the character and adore The Sarah Jane Adventures, but can’t muster a lot of excitement for this announcement. If it was part of a SJA monthly range or Sadie was playing Sarah Jane, then I’d undoubtedly pre-order. Rani 10+ years after the last episode is a bit too broad for me and I suspect it’ll just turn into SJA without the titular lead; this is essentially just a workaround for not being able to tackle the series proper.
Really happy they’re allowed to use the characters, and really happy for those that it appeals to. I hope to get more information and jump on board.

This also makes me really wish we get a SJS spin-off with Sadie Miller. Sadie nails the role and is genuinely one of the best parts of current Who output at Big Finish.

Finally, this is Joseph Lidster's first writing credit since 2018 with his two Metacrisis short stories!

I was hoping that RTD had changed his mind and the teases we got over the last couple of days were for a continuation of SJA (either producing the lost stories or stories set during S1-5) but this is still very exciting. Instant preorder from me.

Have yet to listen to the Eighth of March release but I’m willing to give this series a go.
Even if it’s not a continuation of the SJA proper it does make me wonder whether characters such as Luke, Sky or Mr Smith will eventually make an appearance.

Interesting. Shall we play the ‘who will crossover first?” game? River? War Master? UNIT? Leela?

In all honesty they should have just took the plunge and did Sarah Jane adventures with Sadie Miller instead Let’s hope rani takes on the world is better than the international woman’s day Boxset

Ooh. I hope to see Luke/Sky at some point, maybe Mr Smith too. But I'm pretty on board with this already. And 10+ years on from SJA, the 'kids' are all well into adulthood by now, so I'd really rather this be about them. No archival Lis Sladen, no recast Sarah Jane. Just let it be about the kids and Sarah Jane's legacy.

I think that even though RTD is obviously now allowing them to use SJA characters, he may still be less keen on them doing SJA itself. And it seems fairly likely that this was a more appealing idea to Anjli and Danny anyway, given had SJA continued they were going to let the characters grow up rather than stay at secondary school forever.

I agree, adult Rani (with or without Clyde etc) offers more of an avenue for exploration and storytelling. Maybe have Ace as a sort of “Robin Masters” or “Charlie” character, slipping Rani missions and tech (or just a place to crash that puts them in the heart of the action).

You know, it does make me wonder how many callbacks there will be to the Sarah Jane Adventures in this.
Honestly wouldn’t surprise me for instance if they managed to get Samantha Bond in to reprise her role as Mrs Wormwood to serve as the main antagonist of the series.

It’s actually rather surprising how little the Slitheen have been used by Big Finish. Especially that once upon a time they were one of the more prolific recurring alien antagonists in the Expanded Universe.
