I was thinking about how Sarah Jane Adventures caused Big Finish's Sarah Jane Smith series to end abruptly and I remembered all the attempts to rescue Sarah so she could make it to Bannerman road. That caused me to think, what if the Big Finish series came after the tv show. There might need to be some handwaving to "fix" the fact it was produced first (i.e. Why no Mr. Smith etc), but maybe Sarah didn't get rescued. Like I said morbid, but it would mean we actually witnessed Sarah's last adventure.

Even gloomier - to reconcile the BF series, Laurence Miles's novels, and the SJA: actually, Sarah Jane Morley didn't go into space. It's just a delusion, the centre of her nervous breakdown. Although she did eventually recover her wits, her journalism career was in tatters - no chance of addressing the general assembly of the United Nations a second time. She even lost all memory of her husband, Paul. And so she set off to chase aliens instead.
