I love the Episode Midnight, I think the idea of 1 - 2 scene play using low effects and an imaginative concept that utilises performance would be an amazing show to tour the country.
It could be written in a way that many of the former Doctors and companions could alternate. The show could then tour with anyone from Mcgann, Eccleston, Tennant, Smith, Capaldi, Whittaker and their assorted companions.

Speaking of Midnight, I’m sure I remember seeing online somewhere years back a student production. Recall it working rather well although naturally they had to reinvent the Doctor to be a mysterious traveller by the name of Doctor Smith.

That is very much the poster child for what we’d call a “guilty pleasure” I actually think there’s a great deal to like about it. As for its sequel? Not so much.

The kind of play I'm thinking of is very much something like Midnight or Girl in the Fireplace. Not something with Daleks or Cybermen that would be an expensive spectacle.
A character driven story, you could have the Tardis, exterior and interior. Then 1 or 2 other locations. When you think about it, many episodes of the show are exactly this.

I think pretty much anything can work well as a stage play, but it requires a different approach to writing. I'd probably point to the stage plays of Agatha Christie and Maurice LeBlanc's most famous characters for model of how to do it: zero in on small, self-contained adventures; really play up the character drama; keep the locations/sets very limited.
And w/r/t the inspiration from the latter -- a stage play might be the only format where we might be able to get stories where the identity of the Doctor is one of the mysteries to be unveiled. Imagine, like School Reunion but from Sarah's perspective.

I think this is one of those cases where what would work the best from a creative standpoint (Midnight-esque base-under-siege psychological thriller with intense character drama and great performances) is not what the audience or the BBC would want. If people are going to see Doctor Who on stage, they're going to want to see Daleks and big, crowd-pleasing spectacles, not something dark, tense, and cramped. Much as I'd like to see (and/or write) Midnight 2.0 delivered live on stage, the reality is that the audience will expect something like a more polished version of The Ultimate Adventure and it would be best to lean into that from the start. Get a cool effect for the TARDIS materialization, the bigger-inside-than-outside moment, throw in some Daleks, some Cybermen, and go for broke with a big blockbuster story with lots of neat set pieces.
