I thought this thread was supposed to be focusing on positivity? In fairness this reads to me like a critic of the era acknowledging that while they had concerns, there were positives as well and wanting to validate that even if something wasn't to there taste, that doesn't stop it being "proper" Doctor Who. It's easy for fans of the era to be positive about it. It's more impactful for a critic of the era to acknowledge there are positives Go back & read the OP

I know the person starting the thread wanted to hear from the fans, but I also appreciate hearing a critic saying "13 definitely has the kindness and awe at the beauty of the Universe qualities of the Doctor in abundance." That sounds like positivity to me.

It's easy for fans of the era to be positive about it. It's more impactful for a critic of the era to acknowledge there are positives Thank you. That's exactly what I was trying to express. I apologise timleschild if my recent posts were edging away from positivity, I have mixed feelings about the Chibnall era, but I do feel there's a lot to enjoy. 13 is the doctor, and she'll always be many people's favourite. I guess I was trying to validate her as a character while expressing why she wasn't my cup of tea. She has many aspects worthy of praise and I wouldn’t change her era despite my misgivings. One point I wanted to make along the lines of validation is that as fans differ on their preferences for the show it's important to respect that there's no right or wrong way to enjoy the show, only preference and individual taste. Many fans of shows often argue in a way that seems to say "I'm right and you're wrong", which is a shame. I enjoy healthy debate about why we like what we like and others don't. To add balance I will say I really enjoyed Flux, Eve of the Daleks and Power of the Doctor. I'd be interested to see other aspects of 13s character explored by Big Finish, perhaps a chance to hear the more optimistic 13 reflect on the Doctor's long life and darker moments.
