Really looking forward to this. Haven't listened to much 8th Doctor stuff other than the Time War range because a lot of it felt quite inaccessible. However, I'll definitely be picking up this boxset as it seems totally standalone.

Yep very much on board with this. I met Paul McGann at the weekend and he’s so lively with an infectious enthusiasm that I felt his Big Finish output was a disservice, so I’d be very keen to go back to that more carefree Doctor, whilst also forging a new era as per Paul’s wishes.
I like that outfit too; a real life equivalent of the DWM variant.

I'm SO excited!! Give me more joyful early 8 with a cover that looks like it came from 2001!

Ooh, love that we’re getting some more early Eight adventures! One of the most exciting announcements in a while, for me.

Just pitch Paul up a hair, give us that young voice. And maybe have him speak into a tin can, really recreate the era!

Very intrigued! I never connected with Early 8, but it was more that I’m just not a Charley fan, so a new companion is something that is much more interesting, especially since the Cyber War was a running arc in 8’s early years no?
Edit: Plus, the writer’s line up is fantastic!

I think I will wait for reviews. Had been burned too much recently to do much pre- ordering. Plus, I find it very hard to get enthusiastic about anything these days, so there is that, too. Saves money, I guess.

A rare Big Finish story featuring Revenge era Cybermen. The most underexplored Cybermen variant.

Intriguing. I mentioned this before when they released that one-off Charley Pollard box set but I always thought Paul McGann wasn’t interested in revisiting the early days of the Eighth Doctor.
Clearly I’m just talking out of my backside.

Clearly I’m just talking out of my backside. I think it depends on how it’s done. To us fans, it’s a revisit, but to an actor it’s a new direction with the presence of a new co-star. It’s for the writing to help sell the Doctor’s portrayal, in addition to Paul’s interpretation. Of course, there are exceptions; we’ve had the Lucie & Charley sets, but they’re one-offs amongst ongoing eras.

8DAs are still a day 1 but for me -- McGann generally manages to make even the worst scripts entertaining. But in general I'm pretty optimistic for these -- John Dorney and Tim Foley have knocked it out of the park way more often than not, and new companions are always fun. Assuming the woman in the cover is Audacity (not super fond of that name, but oh well) it'll be nice to see the 8th Doctor paired with someone who isn't a young woman for a change. I mean, hell, pretty much all of the older companions we've had have been pretty great.
Though I do hope that after this fourth standalone 8DA boxset they go back to the big arcs. Feels like they only really figured out how to make those work after Ravenous.
Also: Vogons? Like... the poets?

Interesting. Well I wanted something new for Eight that wasn’t the further further further adventures of Liv and Helen, and Tim Foley’s recent work has been outstanding so why not. Also it’s been a very long time since Eight last encountered the Cybermen.
The mention of Griffiths’ character over in Time War 5 is an intriguing choice there. I assume that means there be some sort of link…
All in all, I think I’ll give this brave new era a chance.

So will this be between Charley and Lucie or pre Charley, I have to know! 😉
I've been hoping for a new companion dynamic for 8, though I imagine this will be short term.
The link to the time war is very intriguing. I usually buy 8th Doctor releases on Day 1, I've always enjoyed his adventures but other ranges I've purchased lately have left me feeling the need for caution.
That said 8 has never let me down yet, my taste seems to be more forgiving towards 4, 8 and The War Master.

This first BF stories I heard were 8th Doctor. It introduced me to the range from a friend's recommendation. I have lost interest in his stories sadly so this seems like a fun addition, apart from the idea that it may link into something else with Jaye Griffiths' character. I wonder if this will pick up straight after the tv movie?

Perhaps I’m reading too much into this, but isn’t that the outfit the Eighth Doctor used to wear in the comic strips from Doctor Who magazine?
