I noticed that River Song Volume 12's pre-order download price is £23, up £3 from the £20 of previous volumes.
With the announcement of the 2024 Doctor Who box sets, I also notice that the 2-box set download bundles have increased from £33 to £36 while the CD bundles have increased from £38 to £44.
I guess we'll wait to see if non-pre-order pricing also increases.

It looks like the pricing for the Ninth Doctor sets is starting to creep into the other ranges, which is about what I expected. As a US fan, paying $30 pre-order for a download is getting too high for me to keep up with unfortunately. Oh well.

I wish if they were gonna make their new releases have a price increase I wish they made their really old releases have a price decrease.

I guess it was going to happen eventually. The rise in price with River Song in particular stood out to me. We'll have to see how it goes for them. Maybe a 'free' download from the first 100 main range might act as a sweetener to encourage pre-orders if they become sluggish.

Yea I did like that when they did that but cause of the overseas price adjustment it basically went down but then back up.

I still get CDs, but £29.99 for the River Song box 12 is too much for me. At that rate I'm out of future purchases.

I was surprised when Nick admitted in the latest podcast that the DL price is subsidising the CD price. I thought this might be the case , so am not so surprised by that, but I am surprised he admitted it publicly. What is even more surprising is that DL customers are not up in arms about it!

I would get up in arms but I’d always kinda assumed that anyway (the few quids difference between download and CD never seemed enough to cover production costs of said CD), and frankly I’d given up on there being much logic to Big Finish’s prices. Just stick to pre order prices and sales.

Just to muddy it a bit further The Shipping Rates Page says "All UK Per Orders and Subs are Potage Free" yet the CD increase works out the same as the Postage for a UK Destination. Regards mark687

I doubt any of us who buy DLs are surprised by this. If I bought more I'd probably be more annoyed but the quality of BF now means I don't buy much. They should just move to DL only releases.

I wish if they were gonna make their new releases have a price increase I wish they made their really old releases have a price decrease. They have in many cases. Most of the first 100 monthly range releases are going for less than £3. Dark Shadows releases are less than £5. Same for Blake's 7, and probably other ranges. I think that's pretty good value.
Big Finish have always been a fairly expensive past-time, but they've managed to stifle any price increase until recently. I don't for a minute think they're basking in wealth. For what it's worth, for the most part, I think their products are worth every penny for the enjoyment and essential escapism I get out of them.

Coincidently I had to a thought to check their Company House Records last night (as the much missed Jason Ward used to do) Pre Pandemic showed consistent modest Profit, Post Pandemic Break Even or Small Loss. Regards mark687

Regards mark687 I wonder if this is part of the reason they have moved to 2-set bundles, away from 4. With this and "rising costs", they don't want to promise a box set at what ends up being too low a price two years later when the final volume comes out. (Actually, more like 2.5 years when a volume or two gets inevitably delayed due to recording schedules.) 2-set bundles avoid both problems.

I think we weren't up in arms about it because of the overseas pricing 1:1 policy (which meant that America? was saving 30% and Australia/New Zealand was saving 50), while UK customers were just spending the extra £5 for the CDs. Between that policy ending and still increasing pre-order prices, that may change. For myself, after the shock of the overseas pricing policy correction had worn off, I was coming around to being willing to pay £5.50/hour for the very best releases. (For example, I just bought Far From Home.) With this increase to £6/hour... I really do need to step off entirely.

For me its not a question of price but of quality. Am I getting value or not? I'll buy fewer stories if I cant afford to due to the cost of living but i won't story buying them completely.

Quality and price are key for me. I have found in recent years that the quality has dropped significantly, and as the prices have increased I reduced my orders to the point where I haven't bought anything in over a year and a half. I had thought I might just delay making orders until stuff went on sale but I honestly can't say that anything announced recently has grabbed my interest. There are a few items that I pre-ordered around a year and a half back and I haven't felt the desire to listen to any of the ones have have been released this year.

Most of us guessed it was that way, but for me if I was happy paying £xx for a story it never bothered me... so the quality of the story became more important than the download price if the stories were enjoyable. It's the lack of creativity, gimmicky box sets and dull stories that made be stop buying a lot Big Finish releases. So now they don't even get the download price off me most of the time.
