Hmmm...either Big Finish are playing hard and loose with what our expectations of the Doctor's 'degenerations' actually mean.....or we were all wrong in our assumptions that the Doctor who was initially taken into the Time Lord field hospital was either the Eighth or the War Doctor. David Tennant's inclusion opens up some rather interesting possibilities...🤔 Still watching from the sidelines, but Once and Future may have just piqued my curiosity.. Finally got round to listening to the trailer this morning. So much for "rather interesting possibilities"..😕 Ah well. Credit where credit is due cwm .. you called it right and I didn't. To the sidelines once more I go, with curiosity somewhat dampened down...

Despite the silly title I think this will be pivotal episode.
Starting with the 1st Doctor, any further degeneration could be fatal, somehow the Doctor is propelled forward to the Tenth Doctor.
How does that happen!?
Now when he degenerates he will end up as the Eighth Doctor negating any further effects.
I don’t know if I could be anymore excited for this release.

Podcast preview sounds pretty good.
{Spoiler} The Doctor's a bit slow on the uptake, though.

Its in Accounts Extended Extra and Music Suite DLs for Special Edition version as well BF News Piece www.bigfinish.com/news/v/the-martian-invasion-of-planetoid-50Trailer Tweet Oh this is an interesting one If you like Missy, The Paternoster Gang or David Tennant you'll like this [bonus if your just discovering Stephen Noonan's take on the 1st Doc] Starts off as the "Doctor" dropping in mid-way through a Missy Ep Guest Staring the Paternoster's but then you get a twist that gives hints of the reason for and the location of overall Arc resolution via Michelle's compelling sincere take on the role. The Extended Extras mention this wasn't meant for the 10th Doctor (faustingly they don't say who it was meant for), weather this was conveyed to David I don't know, because his performance the core of the "Doctor" rather then the "10th Doctor" Its strange that so much of the Extended Extras are Richardson, Barnes, and Fitton "apologizing" if this more dis-jointed and weaker than the others, personally, this is a big improvement on 2's Company. Thought this was the best of the lot so far. I loved the opening 15 minutes with the First Doctor, that shunting mid-episode is exactly what I expected of the series when it was first announced. It’s Noonan’s best performance so far, and I think it’s Gomez’s best, at least since her first series. The Paternoster are nice worthwhile additions, the story is fun and Tennant is a tour de force as per. The overall arc is still light, but this story contains the most developments, but frankly it’s something that should’ve come two or three releases before at this point.
I still don’t think it’s succeeding in its central premise, but this felt more substantial compared to most of the previous efforts.

Now that's more like it. Nothing too deep, but it was a good fun romp with great performances from all involved.
Brilliant chemistry between Tennant and Gomez.

I agree with everyone, this one was a very fun listen. And the interviews were so much fun. So many Scots!

Was that actual tangible plot points?! In a Once and Future story?! What a notion!
Tennant clearly has a lot of enthusiasm here and that pushes the story along. The plot is flimsy as it is mainly a vehicle for Ten to meet Missy but they actually have something of a chemistry. And she has a twist which relates to the arc! Oh my such low hanging fruit but after four hours of basically nothing to do with the arc it’s such a blessing.

It’s Noonan’s best performance so far Really? When I was scanning through the podcast to find the start of the drama tease, I honestly thought he was Strax...

I didn’t think Noonan’s performance was that bad, but that said I don’t think I’ll be rushing to buy 1DAs off the back of it. Just didn’t quite click for me.

I do think it’s his best outing so far, although I’ve yet to hear the second story of the second set. I find him quite fascinating really; he makes for a great Doctor, it’s just not the First Doctor. Same for Lauren Cornelius as Dodo; great companion but it’s not who she’s meant to be.

Well that was as much fun as I had hoped…normal service has been resumed with this release.
It felt like it stepped up a gear once the Tenth Doctor arrived. David Tennant really is a force of nature in the roll.
And everyone else had come to play. I hope this isn’t the only time we hear Missy and the Paternoster Gang together.
But after this story I am really baffled by what is happening, will happen and has already happened.
It will be an incredible feat of writing to tie this series into a satisfying bow in the end.

Love the "David Essex" name drop (War Of The Worlds rock opera audio).. Yes, I just heard that call out. David Essex played the Artillery-man and Strax quoted him from "Brave New World."

Not listened to this yet, or previous 6th Doctor story. I'm reluctant to go any further as it all feels so inconsequential and the Degeneration novelty has fizzled out due to non existent plot progression.
When you listen to something as accomplished as Friend of the Family, it really stands out how generic Once and Future has been. Which if light and fluffy is what you're after, then great but at this point I wish I'd not bothered.
Looking at previous Big Finish anniversaries or team ups, I've found these stories had much more depth,
Out of Time 1 - 3 The Light at the End Lies in Ruins and The Death of Jo Grant from Legacy of Time Masterful The Two Masters War Master Killing Time Day of the Master
I guess it's tricky to do something original after such a rich history of similar releases and it's comenandable what Big Finish are trying to do here.
But it does really frustate that the episodes feel so stand alone, with it just too obvious that the story is shaped round a contrived shopping list of characters meeting each other.

In the midst of the extended interviews at the moment. Interesting that this was not initially written for the 10th Doctor, but due to the Lockdown he became available. Also it is mentioned that both David Tennant and Michelle Gomez did quite a bit of improvisation.
It was loads of fun and as mentioned above I enjoyed the various War of the Worlds mentions, especially the musical.
There are significant degeneration plot developments which may be built on later.
I think the best way to approach this series is that it is supposed to be a fun celebration project seeing different actors match up with an overall plot that is slowly unwinding.

What a great deal of fun this release was. And I think that's the point of the series, really, to have fun, the audience and the actors. But the plot thickens! The Master/Missy has been hit by a regeneration weapon as well! And now it's been spelled out clearly that the Doctor's clothes change with each degeneration. But more telling, the 10th Doctor has his 10th Doctor sonic! It's going to be interesting to see how all of this is explained.
