newt5996, when you finish the storyline, it's really worth tracking down the Dirk Maggs/BBC all-star audio version that came out at roughly the same time as the original comics.

Dirk Maggs did a version? How accurate is it? It's been a few years since I listened to it, but as I recall it's pretty good. Australian Lex Luthor, check. Four replacement Supermen, check. Jon Pertwee, check.
The CD can be found on Amazon and ebay and places like that, and I've just found that it's available for download (alongside Knightfall and Superman on Trial)

Jon Pertwee? How many of these did Dirk Maggs do?

Due to a recommendation made my way through Kamala Khan- Ms Marvel. This got very highly rated reviews. I admit that I cannot share the enthusiasm 100%. Yes, the art is great. Yes, Ms Marvel is an interesting character, with great superpowers and when she is doing her superhero stuff, she is a fun hero which you like and enjoy. I liked her outings with Squirrel Girl. BUT. The first 3 volumes of Ms Marvel were just a bit depressing for me. So we have the first female Muslim superhero, and she is member of a very conservative immigrant Pakistani family, and her brother is ultra-religious and close to a Mullah. Kamala, being female, is basically not allowed to do anything. Not even leave the house un-supervised. Around 50% of the comics is not about superhero stuff, but Kamala arguing with her family, being supervised by her brother, being taught at the mosque, being depressed for not able to be doing anything her non-Muslim friends are doing and running into all the problems a female Muslim teenager would encounter. In some parts, this is really depressing and disheartening. When I read superhero comics, I want to have some escapism and heroics, and just reading about this poor girl having a hard time 24/7 and trying to have a secret identity was maybe realism, but not much fun for me. The series picks up in volumes 4 and 5, and I enjoyed these more. I agree that these comics are different, they have some great art, Kamala is a great character, but for me styling her as some female Muslim teenager Spiderman was just not that much fun. Oh well, I gave it a try. I will now start on the Kate Bishop series. I loved her in her previous outings, and Kate Bishop is just great as this semi-incompetent potential superhero who has some great skills, yes, but more often than not survives more because of luck and less because of skill and planning. Her previous series had been fun. Will make a start on Kate Bishop- Anchor Points.

The Return of Superman: Honestly my favorite installment in the arc. I love the explanation given for why Superman comes back and the twist about which of the Supermen are evil and planning to destroy the world is great. The Bloodlines annuals here are also really dumb but a lot of fun to read and riff on (heck the podcast took over three hours for a reason). My only minor critique is that Roger Stern’s style impedes flow at several points and that some of it should have been reprinted in Reign of the Supermen. And sadly we weren’t able to listen to the audio adaptation. Podcast Episode: youtu.be/1CzZnFdLAMo

May I express my uttermost and explicit displeasure on the move by §$%&§$!! Amazon to cancel Comixolgy and merge it with the Kindle app. This is complete and utter horse and cattle manure. I am NOT happy.

Surprised this has never been reprinted: Batman Blind Justice, the book that gave us Henri Ducard.

How amazing is Beasts of Burden? Started on these horror comics by Dark Horse and they are amazing. Pet dogs and cats act as demon hunters and there are several gruesome and dark scenes. There are even zombie dogs! And a cameo by Hell Boy. All drawn in wonderful colourful and playful art that nicely contrasts with the dark and sinister stories. What is not to love?

Superman: Doomsday: Kind of an oddity of a book. It doesn’t really compare to Death and Return. I like whenever Jurgens goes introspective but the first miniseries has a weird structure and the second has some very 90s isms which makes it fall apart for me. Issue one of Transformers: War End. In fact, given that digital comics are now $5.60 … it’ll probably one of the last comics I read FULL STOP.

Yeah I largely gave up on individual issues quite a while back, the price point is astronomically high. When I do read comics these days (which admittedly is a lot less than I used to), it's mostly trade paperbacks because they're far more economical.

Batman: Dark Victory: Quite possibly the definitive origin for Robin and a brilliant statement on why Robin is necessary in my eyes for Batman to work to the fullest. Tim Sale’s art is so moody and fits the story so well and honestly it’s better than The Long Halloween as a whole.
