Am I the only one not that excited by Leela and War? Leela belongs to a select group of companions (with Nyssa and Ace) who are seriously overused by BF. [...] In the case of Leela, it is clear from what has been said in interivews etc that Louise Jameson has a a very strong relationship with a lot of the folks at BF, and we can see that reflected in the number of times Leela pops up, not to mention Louise's writing and directing for BF. I have to wonder if that relationship is swaying BF's professional judgement as to how much Leela we really need. Each to their own and all that... but where I live you can never have enough Leela, or Louise Jameson! Ace on the other hand...

I have nothing against the characters or the actresses ... but you can have too much of a good thing. More variety would be nice. As an aside, could it be one of the reasons Six is such a popular audio Doctor is because he has by far the greatest variety of copanions? In the case of Leela, it is clear from what has been said in interivews etc that Louise Jameson has a a very strong relationship with a lot of the folks at BF, and we can see that reflected in the number of times Leela pops up, not to mention Louise's writing and directing for BF. I have to wonder if that relationship is swaying BF's professional judgement as to how much Leela we really need. This is not intended as a criticism of Louise Jameson, but I for one feel a bit Leela-ed out (not to mention Nyssa-ed out and Ace-d out) and would prefer more variety in companions. Having said all that I will still be buying War Dr 4 and I'm sure I will enjoy it. Wearing my continuity geek hat, I hope Leela's fate will tie in with her first CC appearance in The Catalyst I'll try this again

I have no problem with Leela and Ace popping up all over the place. I love both of them.

I was referring to Louise more than the character of Leela. There must be over people out there that BF can employ. I just think they are bordering on overkill with her I think. Still, I seem to be in the minority so I'm glad everyone else is enjoying her stuff

Louise is a very versatile actor, which is probably a good reason why they are still using her in so many releases.

Fair enough everyone is entitled to their opinion I however think that people at BF are using her out of friendship more than anything. Still, I guess we will never know either way. As as to versatility I would personally disagree. I think she is very very good as Leela however as Jackie in Survivors she was pretty bad. She almost ruined the second series in my opinion. I think she is good at directing but should stay away from writing. Oh well, each to their own I guess

Louise is very good in Omega Factor. And I enjoyed Jackie in series 1 of Survivors. (Don't have the second set.)

I have no problem with Leela and Ace popping up all over the place. I love both of them. I have no problem with Ace or Leela turning up in a Time War story because they're on Gallifrey. I can see the Doctor of War insulating his old companions as best he could from the war, but Leela and Ace are both on Gallifrey and likely to be sent to the front lines because (especially in Ace's case, as Gallifrey-Ace is a Dalek Killer by training) they're fighters and there not-Gallifreyans (thus cannon-fodder as far as the likes of Cardinal Servelan is concerned).

She was quite good in Bergerac though.

Louise is fantastic. There's a reason she was on screen for years and years between Who, Bergerac, Tenko and Eastenders among others. She's had the best career of any post-Who classic companion, I'd think. I've never heard her be sub-par on audio though, yes, I have been a bit Leela-d out at times.

I think the only reason that it feels like we've gotten too much Leela is that she was Four's only companion for a few years. Now that Lalla Ward is doing stories with Tom Baker, it shouldn't seem like too much. Is Leela even going to be in anything this year, other than the new Gallifrey boxset?

I think you might be right here? I don't think Louise is in that many more things than anyone else and I'm not sure she's even averaged a half dozen releases a year. Personally I have yet to get too much of Leela, Nyssa, or Ace - or anyone else for that matter - but also I think the pairing of the War Doctor and Leela particularly has tremendous possibilities.

I've been wanting to know what happened to Leela during the Time War ever since there *was* a Time War, way back in 2005. Yes, I'm very excited about this.
