As someone who is being particularly thick today, am I right in reading that this is them doing audio-described "versions" of the stories, or am I completely off the mark?

Its episodic releases of stories from the BF back catalogue with an intro from Colin Baker. Not sure if this is in character or if they are abridged versions & the intro is a scene setting thing.

Sure thing, thank you. I presumed that, as Colin's involved, he would've been doing 'more' than in intro

Just listened to episode 1... I say I listened to it, I did what I did with Tales of the TARDIS and listened to the bookends. Colin is lovely but if you've already heard the stories included there's nothing more to gain from this.
However, I say that because I've been collecting Big Finish for almost 10 years. I think this will be a great tool to get in some newer listeners!

I’m a little disappointed that they’re not seeming to do much to highlight this. Someone mentioned that they should have sales related tot he story and I really agree. At least a discount for the boxed set of the story included in this week’s episode. They seem really wary to let anyone know that they’re giving stories away for free and I think that will end up hurting them a bit. Did love Colin’s bookends though and will listen to any stories I haven’t heard.

How can they use it as a potential gateway for new customers if no one knows about it! Also if you are new & buy some early stories only to find that they are available legally from BF on Spotify. Well it would p me off.

Ok.. Just downloaded Spotify onto my Iphone purely to listen to this podcast- or more importantly, just the "Colin Baker bits" as I already have the stories on CD, (some) vinyl, BF app and my HDD's..

They are very reluctant to promote free stuff. How can they use it as a potential gateway for new customers if no one knows about it! They never mention the episodes on Spotify or Audible, and rarely admit to when they're on Radio 4 Extra. My guess is that either there's some bizarre contractual obligation, or they're worried that these freebies might work in the wrong direction by encouraging BF fans to get stories for free, rather than advertising BF to new audiences.

Finally plugged on the main BF Podcast this week and apparently if you've Subscribed to Into the TARDIS you should have access to several Eps already.
And

This seems like a good idea but with no real thought. If the goal is to push some stories free as a hook? First - pick some better stories - but also just give them away for download. Then the traffic is on your site and registered. Get onto every Facebook group, Reddit and Discord to let people know - "Full free story" (the part ones they offer? Meh..) - and bombard people with it. No-one new is coming on because Colin Baker does an introduction. If they cared about just more Colin they would buy Big Finish.
When this was mentioned on the BF Listeners Facebook group almost no-one knew it was happening - and that's your existing audience, never mind the audience you wish you had.
Have Big Finish ever - ever - been good at this sort of thing?

Marketing/Communication.. well.... It's not hard. Im ancient and I can see how to promote it better. There are a million Who channels on Youtube -get them to advertise it in return for digital promos. What they need is some millenial staff to know how PR and marketing work in 2024. Their ideas - the odd Doctor Who Magazine ad - are from the last century.

So true. Their marketing is really bad. & its not like they'd need to spend a lot! They have some younger people with bigger roles at BF now, like Emily Cook. Do they not ask them? BF seem content to accept the audience they have & do little to expand into the bigger world of mainstream Doctor Who fans.

"Judoon in Chains" next week, making it three-for-three on stories I've already heard.
