Is anybody on here trying out the new BF app that was mentioned somewhere recently?
if so, what is it like and how different is it to the current one?

It was being beta tested by people at Big Finish Day. Kris, the marketing Gnu who was handling the periscope, mentioned it'd be rolled out about four or five weeks after that. I'd say it's about early to mid February if things run to schedule.

I'm using it, the interface allows for filtering and sorting (still a couple of bugs) and it has to pre-load your full collection of titles, so wi-fi is your friend on first use. The playback all seems fine. I had some log on bugs all now fixed

I had some log on bugs all now fixed Tony is it still standalone, or does integrate it into the IOS allowing the album metadata to be transferred to a coupled device, I have found this the most annoying that through the current app in my car apple play does not recognise the details, artwork from from the file, as is the same if I use it through say a SONOS or other connected audio? The other issue I had was that although the Iphone would show the media controls when the screen locked it was hit or miss if this worked when you pressed pause, play and the like. Interesting to get my hands on the final version.

I'm not much of an Apple user I'm afraid, I only have an iPad mini because of the size! It certainly works better with the remote on my headphone cable, anything beyond that I have no idea. I do have Sonos but doesn't that do its own indexing from a server?
I've certainly found the lock-screen media controls work fine. The audio player is undulib which already works on its own.

You have answered the main question about the control interface on the lock screen, on the Sonos note you are correct although you can run a stream application from IOS to Sonos which is much the same as when you connect it to another device and it creates replicated controls. Thanks for the heads up. I await it's release.

I'm looking forward to this. Even with the faults I find the current app invaluable. With the faults gone it's going to be great

Is this a phone only iTunes only app? I want, indeed have even been tempted to attempt to write a PC application that works with my BF library.

And Android is much larger market than iOS. According to this (published Sept 2015), Android is just over half the market and falling.

They did say they would eventually do Android. They just wanted to start with one platform and make that perfect before moving onto another. And they said they felt that was their mistake with the current app.
I won't say which was better to start with because being an IOS user I am obviously biased.

But most apps do tend to go on IOS first. bgr.com/2015/06/04/ios-vs-android-apps-developers/The articles are also saying that while Android may have a larger market, IOS market is growing especially in Europe. Not sure what the numbers are like in the UK.

Not sure what the numbers are like in the UK. IOS gets apps first, mostly because it is easier. The thing to remember is IOS is across very few Hardware platforms, compared to Android. It is harder to accommodate the different hardware, and because Android does not have a "predominant" share of the market, there is no benefit from nothe releasing an IOS version first, followed by an Android a few months later.

I am sure that it would take a lot of work to make an App, but I'm surprised there isn't one. If there was. Would you use it and what would you want it to do? If it was possible to play audios directly from the App on my phone, that would solve lots of problems big finish have. One that Frank Skinner brought up actually.
