I understand everyone's thoughts about the long delay. This is my first major production in audio drama as a producer and it had been a difficult road with both the technical and creative aspects. With Sherwood Sound Studios, I'm not intending to become the mass producer of content that Big Finish is, in comparison to other independent audio drama producers. All I want to achieve is the production of the best, most realistic sounding stories. I had no idea how long it would take me to create such an immersive, realistic world while getting the faithfulness of the 1897 story accurate, especially on top of a day job. If the end result is exceptional with fans of the original source very happy with it then I'm more than happy too. The original 1897 The War of the Worlds is a story I've wanted somebody to adapt faithfully for years! This still hasn't been done and I believe our adaptation finally achieves this. Future productions from Sherwood Sound Studios will never be crowdfunded or announced until the work is completed and manufacturing begins as this is the only time we can be sure of a firm release date and no delays. With this being our first production, and without any budget to begin with, we really needed the funding very early to get the actors we wanted in the studio and recorded. I can only apologise for these delays and assure you that the end product is something very special. I'm extremely proud of what Nick, Lisa and myself have achieved with this adaptation.

the long delay to be was in part Jeff Wayne fault copyrigth issue If I get started on that issue, we'd be looking at a short novel! But yes, you're right. It took months for them to contact their lawyer who then told them to back off with the threats over copyright, because it's not applicable.

Starting up any new venture, especially a creative one, with a minimum of capital is always going to be a difficult road to hoe. Starting up that new venture on top of working a day job makes it even more difficult. Also, and this is speaking from experience, promises can be made that end up being impossible to honor in the time frame discussed. Which is to say, everything about these kinds of things are teaching experiences. I get people being upset. There were a few times during this where I got a little pissy and I've been on the other end of this equation and know how Martin feels. The only thing which gets one through it is the dedication to the work. Here is hoping the production really is ready and here is hoping it is everything Martin hoped it would be. And here is hoping it blows everyone's socks off.

The delays are annoying but there's worse things going on in the world, so it'll be ready when it's ready. Let's hope it's worth the wait.
Bring it on!

Well, I'm still planning on this being my first audio WOTW listen... "post-Wayne", that is. I've had the Big Finish version sitting around here for a while, and while I thought their other entries in the Wells series were pretty good, I bought the bundle that included WOTW... so I have it here, but in this case I wanted to hear the Sherwood version first. (after the rather horrible BF Wizard of Oz I'm not sure if I trust BF to deliver on this sort of thing) When it's ready, I'll be ready to cue it up at the top of my listening list. (not sure if I'll move that BF version up from the bottom of that list though)

I'm delighted to announce that production is now completed on The Coming of the Martians and the digital version is being distributed over the weekend, first to you all and then to pre-order customers.

I finally got around to listening to The Coming of the Martians and this audio certainly does not disappoint! It was a long time coming but it was well worth the wait. This audio adaptation - by Nick Scovell - is very faithful to the novel (Not 100% accurate, but close enough.) with some great performances from Colin Morgan, Olivia Poulet, Ronald Pickup and the rest of the cast, excellently directed by Bernice Lisa Bowerman. It also has an atmospheric soundtrack that brought the invading Martian tripods and their deadly destruction across southern England to life in my headphones. I have only listened to the stereo version so far, it will be interesting to hear the 5.1 mix, but even in stereo the soundscape really did make this a gripping story to listen to. The only problem was listening to this on a warm summer's evening with daylight coming through the window takes away from the creepy atmosphere the soundscape of this story provided. A repeat listen sometime around Halloween is definitely on the cards.
Well done Martin and everyone else involved in this, it really is an excellent adaptation. 9/10

Thank you. The initial brief for this production was to be absolutely faithful to the original 1897 story, avoid narration where possible, have it sound realistic and almost indistinguishable from real life (every sound is produced from a real world recording and there isn't a single synthesised sound in this entire production apart from the eerie music during Dead London) and work with a team that can bring this story to life in a way that doesn't sound quite as melodramatic as a lot of audio dramas tend to be. It took a long time to produce, but we are extremely happy with the end result.

anyone who a backer is into kickstart so he gets your address and details I'm sorry, can you please rephrase this more understandably? I can't make heads nor tails of what you are trying to say.
