Anyone see this? I've really been looking forward to it. And it's just what I wanted it to be; a whole lot of fun.
I love Tom Ellis (very sexy), love the music, love the premise, hate the female lead. Why is it so hard for TV to give me a female detective who I believe is actually a cop? And this one's really terrible. I didn't believe she could be a detective in a million years and I didn't believe a single thing that came out of her mouth. Kate Beckett is the only female detective I've been able to believe since Law & Order:SVU, but don't ask me why.
Anyway, I'll probably keep watching anyway, and I'll probably continue to dislike her.

I've very little interest. I like the comic but then I read the show is intentionally going to just take the premise and not be like that...not great. And having seen TOm Ellis in plenty over 15 years or so, he's the last actor I would have cast for the role.

I wrote the above post while I was in the middle of the show. Other thoughts now that I've seen the whole thing: Who is the bar lady that seems to have come from Hell with Lucifer? She was just there without any real introduction to to who she is and what her purpose is in this show or in Lucifer's life. I really wanted him to be more evil. To really make the cop question why she's allowing him to work with her and why she's drawn to him, since we are seeing him through her eyes. And now that the shrink has communed and been seduced by the devil, is she now a witch? So, it was ok, but it could have been better.

I knew that this wasn't going to be THAT Lucifer right off the bat. If Constantine couldn't make it, there was no way Gaiman's portrayal of the Lord of Hell who abdicates his throne was never going to make it. I wanted to give it a shot, though. I don't know if I've ever seen Tom Ellis in anything. The name sounds familiar but nothing comes to mind.

I will stick with ripper street series 4 but only after they are all out!

i enjoyed it but i also found the script really clumsy at parts. i like the 2 leads. i am fan of rachel harris the therapist so thats good. did anyone else notice the black guy visiting angel thing just like constatine. is that going to be a trope? actually it wasnt that bad. its was ok but needs better writing.

I completely agree. It has a lot of potential but the writing needs to be much better.

Watched the first ep now. Won't be too fussed about watching more. It's not awful but Lucifer was not a procedural comic, I'm struggling to see why this couldn't just be a new show as it owes much more to Stephen Bochco (NYPD Blue, LA Law, Hill St Blues) than Neil Gaiman. Amenadiel and Mazikeen are in it (yay!) but they're minor characters compared to this new cop that Lucifer is now partners with.
The stuff about him having a crisis about the role he plays in hell was all good but it's a b-plot to just make a really generic mystery cop-show. That mystery about the dead actress with the multiple suspects? How many shows could that have been ripped out from? Tom Ellis is really quite bland too. He usually is but anything funny or charming about Lucifer here is purely in the script, not the performance.
There's just too much cult tv to watch nowadays without worrying too much about middle of the road efforts.

Have you seen Stan Lee's Lucky Man with James Nesbitt?, I'm enjoying that series, i agree Lucifer is dull partly because as you say Tom Elis is dull as dishwater.

Yes, I've enjoyed it so far. It's a bit cheeky using no less than 3 actors who have played big roles in Luther though - like stealing another shows credibility to get the rub Nesbitt's a really good lead and actually, a few years ago, would have been a much, much more suitable actor for the title role in Lucifer. Even if his new hair plugs are really distracting - he's got more hair now than he did on Cold Feet 20 years ago! I think Jeremy Piven would be the American equivalent.

The second episode was much better. More "hell on earth", although I'd like the procedural aspect to go away completely, especially since I really don't like the female lead. So much so that I can't even remember the actress of the character's names. I find it interesting that all you men think Ellis is the weak link, which I don't particularly see, but I can't stand the actress. Hmm.
And yes, there is nothing in Gaiman that particularly sets this up to be a procedural. Very odd choice. I think Constantine was a much better show with a lot more potential. Oh, well.
