Started listening to the boxset yesterday, finished the first two stories-great stuff so far, very visual stories with a good balance of timey-wimey shenanigans and easy to follow storyline, I'm liking the way the 8th Doctor is written in the set, noble but naive still striving to look for the joy and wonder in a universe that is fast falling short of it... {Spoiler} Sheena/Emma/Louise didn't last very long did she? Was she A mere redshirt for this story?...or perhaps BF have set up a loose end they will explore eventually...

Finished it, OMG this is a epic, great storytelling, wonderful dialogue, high production values & a gut punch dramatic climax which show that saving someone has consequences.
Dorney & Fitton have captured lightning in a bottle.

I've been reading all these posts, and I don't think I can add anything. This was one of the best things that BF has produced this year. This is as exciting as DW can get, and I was glued to it every second. And I really loved that Eight sounds almost like his old, carefree, romantic self in the first story, before it all hits the fan. So many of us have missed that side of him. But as I said, he was ALMOST that guy. McGann's performance is amazing, to bring out the subtleties that drive Eight in that story, as well as in The Conscript. Just an amazing set all around.

So many of us have missed that side of him. But as I said, he was ALMOST that guy. McGann's performance amazing, to bring out the subtleties that drive Eight in that story, as well as in The Conscript. Just an amazing set all around. This, just a absolutely fantastic boxset, so much scope, drama and variety in the space of four episodes, I liked that it was effectively its own miniseries that changed tone every episode, I think with this set, Doom Coalition and the CDNM stories BF have really hit their stride and pinnacle when it comes to the 8th Doctor, after all these years they are still pushing and developing the character in new directions, now with the tragic ending of TNOTD to slowly work towards, I'm continually impressed by just how visual and large scale BF can make these audio only stories feel. I have seen McGann in a few things over the years, and enjoy his work as a narrator on various documentaries I've watched but truth be told I'm not hugely familiar with his wider body of work and know him mainly for Doctor Who (yes I realise I should probably rectify that) but from the first time I listened to his audios I've been gripped, a fantastic and natural voice actor, and such a admirable, charismatic take on the Doctor, I have no hesitation in saying BF McGann is my era of Who. I didn't listen to the trailer nor read the plot synopsis prior to listening to the boxset so went in more or less blind- although I thoroughly enjoyed the previous Time War stories with McGann I did have my concerns that launching into a full time war range with 8 so soon might have been jumping the gun a bit and undermining some of the mystery of the conflict, but I shouldn't have worried this was a very surprising plot and character driven way to kick of the Time War boxsets, and I'm now more hopeful BF will be shy away from too much Dalek action/politics and explore the personal conflicts at the heart of the time war (whilst I enjoyed the Dark Eyes saga, especially the first two sets I did feel it became a tad convoluted and overly reliant on Daleks exploding/ timey wimey towards the end, given the nature of the Time War I am a tad concerned history might repeat itself...). If I were to nitpick I'd agree with the criticisms that The Conscript was rather cliched in parts (though McGann's snarky delivery and comic timing poked alot of fun at those tropes) and some of the sound mixing seemed a little off. I had no issues with Thakrar's performance (though it was a different approach to McGann's energetic delivery) but I'd also agree with some of the critisms that Bliss is still rather undeveloped as a companion at this stage, which will probably be rectified in the next set. Great boxset overall, very promising start to the range ...Though I'm not sure how much longer they will be able to stretch out the apparent handful of NOTD publicity photographs... And now we wait for the Doom Coalition follow up...

Well that was very good Details in Spoilers but Olivia Vinall sounds too similar to Rakhee that I don't really get why they cast 2 actresses just have Rakhee keep changing her character's name till time settles and she's Bliss.
To tell the truth, until I heard the interviews I thought it was the same actress all the time.

Fantastic boxset. Messrs Dorney and Fitton have really knocked it out of the park this time. Only complaint is that they are one per year and we have to wait so long for the next one ...
I liked Bliss but she didn't have that much to do really. If the set had been rewritten to remove her character altogether, how much would really have changed? Great actress, good character - please make more use of her!
I hope BF come back to Sheena and tie up the loose end of her meeting the Dr and their previous adventures in a future Eighth Dr release. In a way I wish they had used Liv or Helen at the start, then the character's fate would have had a real emotional impact for the listener. Instead it just feels like a blink and you'll miss her cameo appearance.

...Though I'm not sure how much longer they will be able to stretch out the apparent handful of NOTD publicity photographs... I wondered this myself too. There surely can't be that many ... I think the CDNM covers used the same photo of McGann, and I think the images used for the short trips and Titan comics covers have already been reused elsewhere, with 12 further time war stories for 8 confirmed (and I'm sure there will be others down the line) they may soon run out of images... McGann has aged very well for his age so perhaps Bf could do their own photoshoot with the costume...

McGann has aged very well for his age so perhaps Bf could do their own photoshoot with the costume... Big Finish would need to get permission and secure the costume from the BBC, which may be somewhat difficult.
