In the past couple of days, have been playing through The Walking Dead A new Fronier. Since it got the lowest review score of the series, I had not expected much, but thought I should get it so I can enjoy the Final Season more by having Clem's story complete. Well, it is better than I expected! Yes, the plot is not as gripping as it was in the past two seasons, but still, this is not bad. But, as the previous seasons, this is pretty depressing. We meet a lot of selfish vicious brutal and violent idiots and the concept of working together to fight a global pandemic just does not work out. Basically, Deja vu, as we see in real life. Still, good story, the usual Telltale game with lots of dialog options, decision and consequences, quick time events and nice art style. Also, I really like the character of Clem. She might be one of the best female lead characters in gaming (well, apart of course from Fem Shep. NOTHING will ever beat Fem Shep).
Next up- The Final Season. Finally, we get to play as Clem again.

Sly 2: Band of Thieves. The best in the series. Really great level design. Feels like playing a PS2 version of The Phantom Pain almost.
Sly 3: Honour Amoung Thieves Still great. All the personality and style of the previous games, and it's fun to play as so many new characters. It just feels a little weird how the core gameplay loses center stage, and is mostly used to string together set-pieces and mini-games.
The high point of the game was the pirate section. It was so fun to command the ship and get into battles. I just wish there was more of it. Maybe I should finally play Black Flag at some point, since it seems to follow a similar model.

Road 96. Got this during the recent sale. Because I like adventures and this had the tags story rich and multiple endings and tough decisions. Also came with the warning label that it might be liberal propaganda. Well, to be frank, yeah, it is. The plot is basically teenagers being disillusioned by a fascist Trumpistan state and trying to flee the country, trying to reach and cross the border. Many of the issues with refugees, the reason for fleeing from a bad situation, human trafficking, dangers and suffering on the road.... all this is shown. There are some really creepy situations and even a shady scary serial killer. It is a good game, with a good narrative, interesting characters and also, these characters, they grow on you and you want to find out there story. I think if you like it or not will very much depend on how much you are bothered by the very in your face messages. They even got a very blatant copy version of FOX news.

Sounds interesting. I do like adventure games, but that seems a little too on-the-nose for my tastes. I've had more than my fill of that nonsense IRL.
Have you tried Death and Taxes? It's my most recently played adventure game, and it's... deeply flawed, but still kind of neat. You play a grim reaper in an office job, doing paperwork, deciding who lives or dies, the usual. Has some really fun moments and decisions, veering into management sim territory a bit, and lots of little secrets to find.
Problem is it's built around multiple playthroughs which means that you'll see a lot of the same stuff again and again, though there are small subtle changes with each new cycle.

Thanks for the recommendation. I have put it on my wish list. Sounds a bit Terry-Pratchett-esque.
Yeah, Road 96 is a great game, with interesting mechanics, and they really try to mix up things. So it is not straight narration, but you get road chase sequences, and shooting sequences, a little bit of stealth, a little bit of puzzle, they even included a music sequence where you have to play the trombone. It just mixes so many different mechanics, it is a real joy to play. You even get to play some Pong in one sequence.
There is a reason why this game won so many awards and has such good reviews. It has a lot of variety, it has an interesting story, it has great, well performed, characters, which you care for. It is VERY well made. And VERY well written.
However. The political message is there. It is basically the DNA of this game.
Some people might call me a "liberal" (I have even been accused of being part of the Communist World Conspiracy). But even I get a bit annoyed by this to be honest.
So yes, wonderful adventure game, amazing game play, fantastic mix of different mechanics, a real joy to play. If you can zone out all the political bits.

Yeah, I grabbed it for the Terry Pratchett vibes, too. It's not quite as far in that direction as I'd've preferred... it's a bit more, I dunno, grounded? Mundane? I enjoyed the game, but was disappointed by how human the Reaper was, if that makes sense. I was hoping for something more alien. Like, the way the story is written there's this expectation that the player character will want to save human lives... without ever really justifying why this amnesiac demigod would care one way or the other. It's just taken for granted that humanity is the greatest thing in the universe and worth preserving because the people playing the game, presumably, are human.
Still a fun game, but definitely wait for a sale.
But on the topic of adventure, there's one new game I can recommend emphatically and without reservation (or, we'll, almost -- it currently lacks mouse support): The Big Con. It's a 90s-themed adventure game about a teenage grifter, traveling across the country to con and steal her way into enough money to save the family business. Really solid writing, but what really sells it is the sandbox game design. Each chapter is set in a different locale, with a bunch of different puzzles (none of which are super complicated) -- but here's the lovely bit: every single one of them is optional. You need a certain amount of money to progress to the next chapter, but how you get that money is totally up to you. In some cases it's theoretically possible to bypass the ALL of the puzzles entirely, and get by with whatever you can scrounge up from pickpocketing or selling random crap you find to the skeevy antiques dealer.
It's really, really fun. One of my favorite adventure games in a long time. Just real cheery and open-ended.
.... .... .... ....
Re: politics, I dunno. I'm in the US where words don't mean anything and there hasn't been an actual political argument since the 1970s, I think. Certainly not within my lifetime, at least. All the "debate" we get here is ultimately reducible to very simple moral and ethical arguments. Which at least makes it easy to figure how who to vote for, since policy is never an issue. Personally I think we have a mutual responsibility to help others, as sort of my core value, I suppose, which over here makes me a radical socialist more often than not.

Hollow Knight Kind of a Soulslike Metroidvania. It's very addictive. The visuals, exploration and challenging combat are just so alluring.
I just finished the third trial at the Colosseum, and my god, was that some Sisyphean shit. It genuinely knackered me.

Started on Life is Strange True Colours. I loved the first game. It is very well written and crafted and man, what an amazing story and host of characters. I did not care for the second game at all, but the third game had me interested immediately. As a highly sensitive empath myself, I can identify very well with the awkward sensitive often overwhelmed protagonist. I have been in situations like that before, and yes, Alex is right when she says that this is not really a superpower. But a curse. And yes, as an empath, you soak up the emotions of the environment, and it can make you aggressive or freak out. The writers obviously did their research.

I haven't had much time to play it, but I grabbed Wildermyth on Steam a few days ago and have very quickly fallen in love. Its kind of hard to understand the appeal, but it's basically a pretty good rendition of D&D--a very malleable game structure with lots of room for player expression and unexpected events.
I really hope it takes off, because the simple paper craft aesthetic would make it very easy (relatively speaking) for people to craft their own adventures. In an ideal world, this could be a kind of more accessible successor to Neverwinter Nights--only in this case it could easily produce adventures in any setting, not just the typical high fantasy stuff.

Crysis Remastered Trilogy, so far enjoying the first game.
Kingdom Come, i completed it & not happy as this game feels unfinished as to what happens in the end, it's had 5 DLCs & none actually focus on a major unresolved story thread.
After 80 hours i said the same quote i said to my ex-girlfriend.
"Is that it".

After 80 hours i said the same quote i said to my ex-girlfriend. "Is that it". Feels like this is a problem with a lot of RPGs. They require so much time investment, and then just kind of peter out to underwhelming endings. I love the genre, but I often feel like the smart thing to do is simply not play all the way to the end.

Thanks for the recommendation on Wildermyth. We REALLY appear to have the same taste on stuff.
I finished Life is Strange True Colours, and after I dried the last of my tears, I was looking for something different. I already had Warhammer Mechanicus installed on my PC, which is also a turn based tactics RPG, where you build up your Techpriests over time. Mechanicus is said to be one of the best Warhammer games. I LOVE Warhammer. However. I just did not "feel" this game at all. Could be that the Adeptus Mechanicus and playing as an emotionless Cyborg just leaves me cold. I just could not get into the game.
So I got Wildermyth in the sale yesterday. The whole procedual storytelling and game structure and tactical RPG and of course the gorgeous art style appealed to me. I installed the game and OMG. I forgot the time over it. I started playing and when I looked at the time next, 5 hours (!!) had passed and it was 1.30 am. This has not happened to me in a game for a while. And it is kind of weird, because the basic tactical game play is EXACTLY like Warhammer Mechanicus with the action points, grid based movement, small/ limited battle areas, synergies between characters and building up your character over time.
But what really makes Wildermyth special is the art style, the fun and sometimes comical story sequences, your investment into the characters you created yourself, the fact that they age and build a legacy and of course the permanent changes that happen (like some characters turning into some form of animal hybrid).
It is well made, if you crank up the difficulty it gives you a nice challenge, and the way the game and the story adapts to how you play and what decisions you make works very well. I also like that it embraces weird elements.
One of my first decisions was if my character should grab a pitchfork, an axe, or a frying pan as a weapon, and it made out that the frying pan was supposed to be the most unusual option. Of course I took the frying pan!
And I totally rolled with it.
And the magic system. OMG. The way magic works in this game. What an unusual and clever idea. This might very well be the best bit.

Right? Right? It's so cool!
I think I'll probably wind up looking into the mod tools before I'm even halfway done with the game because it'd be so cool to be able to make my own modules, or even just some neat custom assets. The only other game that's made me this eager to tinker around with things has been DOS2, and that's now my most-played game on Steam at around 400 hours.
