I loved Alien Isolation and it’s a stunning recreation of the films and their distinct vibe, but it does outstay its welcome in the end. A fine line between a game and an experience and I think it understandably leans into the former a little too much in the end. If it was made now for VR, it’d be much shorter and better for it. I did really like the two pieces of DLC that recreate scenes from the film. Interesting...that kind of dovetails in an unexpected way with how I was finding myself thinking about it last night; thinking that I've put (at a guess) 20 or so hours into the game so far, am only a bit past halfway done, but was feeling like if this story were an Alien film, I'd probably be at about 45-60 minute mark--and how tedious it is to have spent that much game time on something which hasn't really had enough story to justify it.

Bloodborne, great game i started a few years ago & decided to finally complete it.
Although this type of game From Software always brings out the savage beast in me & some very colourful language.

Bloodborne & Dark Souls 3 done, can't say most enjoyable gaming experience despite the quality of the games so on to Nioh 2 or Guardians Of The Galaxy next.

I never play the DLC. Ive also been going back to old FROM games lately. Elden Ring, of course (bit of a love/hate game, that) as well as all of the Dark Souls. Didn't wind up spending much time with DS1 or DS3, but really got sucked into Scholar of the First Sin. I really love how the "dungeons" are designed here... makes exploration so fun.

Yeah the second DS game was great with it's dungeons & very atmospheric. Tbh the dlc for Bloodborne not that great you can play it during main game it's basically a nightmare world scenario. If you enjoy Souls type games Nioh 1 & 2 i recommend playing.

When was the last time you had goosebumps when playing a game?
Started on The Raven Remastered. GERMAN version. OMG. The voice cast!!! The German company who did this outdid themselves. They had hired all the grandmasters of German audio and I get goosebumps. All the voices who have been in my ears for 40 odd years, some of them sadly have already passed..... Wow. I already loved the Book of Unwritten Tales, by the same company, who also has some of my favorite and famous German voices.

Since I am stuck at home due to the explicit orders by my department heads, bought two detective games on STEAM that are on sale. Right now, I am into detective games, since I liked the Raven so much (if only for the German voice acting, the puzzles and investigations are a bit basic in that game). So for the first time, I will be trying out Great Ace Attorney Chronicles (never played one of the games before), this one appealed to me more because it is set in the past and features a Sherlock Holmes spoof. I heard great things about this series and yes, I am aware that it is more like a Visual Novel. Curious to find out more. Plus, Sherlock Holmes Chapter 1. I liked Crimes and Punishments (which is one of the best detective games I know) and so I thought I could as well try out this one. Reviews are good. My laptop is just about able to run it. Downloading now.

I love the Ace Attorney games, and especially the Great Ace Attorney... but part of that may be due to my fascination with that period of history (and it's contemporary literature). Story-wise GAA1 is kinda weak, but still a lot of fun. And good lord, those character animations are insane.
Lately I've been playing detective games, too. Detective Di is a simple adventure game based on a very old series of Chinese detective stories (often translated as "Judge Dee"). You're basically investigating a murder in medieval China. It's pretty cool. And also Gamedec, which was/is part of this month's Humble Choice. It's a cyberpunk mystery game with some light RPG elements. The whole "deduction" system is really cool (though I'm not sure how reactive the story is): basically you collect clues for each mystery, which you can then use to unlock different conclusions, which then route you to different mysteries, in a sort of branching tree. But you have to be careful when talking to people because you often won't be able to ask them everything, and how and what you say can affect their mental state, which in turn affects which clues they can give you (if any).
Definitely gonna try getting into The Raven soon, too. I'll try to remember to play it in German when I do. i like Poirot well-enough, but goddamn if I'm not a giant honking Arsene Lupin fan.

Thanks for the recommendation on Detective Di! Since it is on sale right now, and is only 2 Euro, I bought it immediately. You and I have pretty similar tastes! I put Gamedec on my wishlist.
Just remember, these German voice actors are LEGENDS.
They are big not only as audio actors, but were also big in theater and movie. And they still happened to appear in all of our favorite youth audio series, so pretty much every German knows these voices since birth. One example, the police man main character is voiced by the actor who also did Watson in the very popular German audio Sherlock Holmes series (which, I have to say, is better than all the ENGLISH series I have listened to, so far. The German series is just cast perfectly and very atmospheric and well written. No wonder it is the most popular adult audio series in Germany).
You should also be able to understand these people well without being a native speaker. Only the Austrian character is voiced in dialect, all the others speak High German (even the police man who is supposedly Swiss). But there are subtitles. I like The Raven. It is a good atmospheric game. It has a great story and I LOVED the plot twist. However, I agree with the critics that the puzzles are a bit basic. And there are a few bugs- if you get stuck just refer to the Steam discussion/ solution section. They tell you exactly how to handle these bugs so you can continue playing. I pretty much ran into all of them, and it was annoying, but still managed to get through with using the advice.

Haha, thanks. I'm definitely gonna be goin' through a lot of adventure games this year--will try to move Raven up in my queue. Hopefully the captions/subtitles are fairly good because I'm serviceable enough with German text, but often have issues deciphering spoken German. I mostly learned to read various texts, so I don't have a lot of practice speaking. Well, not that I have much practice speaking in any other language, either, but you know what I mean.
As for puzzles, I don't mind them being basic. I prefer more narrative reactivity in adventure games than straight-out puzzles (though adventure elements tacked on to a puzzle game, like Opus Magnum, are pretty cool). I played through The Longest Journey a couple years ago and it really burned me out on the whole concept of adventure game puzzles. It's like every single one was deliberately designed to be as convoluted and unintuitive as possible.
And speaking of puzzle-light adventure games, have I talked about The Big Con here? If not, you may want to wishlist it, too. It's a really fun adventure game that's oriented around all these little narrative vignettes as you go on a road trip across the U.S. trying to make as much money pickpocketing, stealing, and short-conning as you can. Very silly 90s cartoon aesthetic.

I’ve recently been into the Punch-Out series. I’ve only played the console versions of the first two games, but they’ve been enjoyable albeit difficult. I’ve gotten better at them though.

Got the new Imperial Guard vs. Tyranids game on Steam. Ehm. Meaning, the new Starship Troopers game. I like the franchise, I have read the book 3 times and saw the movies. I was looking forward to this game. I am also a massive Warhammer Fan and the fascist xenophobic Imperium of Man is very similar to the Terran Empire. I made the mistake of reading the comment section in the Steam discussions. Yeah, I know, I should know better. And what did I exactly expect from the discussion section about a game about a fascist xenophobic human military? There are indeed men who complain that the Mobile Infantry is made up of 50/50 males and females (remember the movie, guys? The girls were not only the nude eye-candy in the shower scenes). I mean, even the book was quite explicit on that one. And Heinlein was certainly not the most progressive of writers. In the book, females are the better pilots and better suited to leadership roles in the military and they are very big in the Space Navy. I was a bit like WTF? and contemplated joining the discussion. But then I remembered my experiences as a female Warhammer player. I had male persons telling me that females were unsuited to play the game, for reasons, even after I had just pwned them (must have been total coincidence and a bad day on the male player part). I once even had a big bad biker guy breaking into tears because he lost a battle against a girl. And I thought.... is it even worth it to bother? Too nice a day.

Tried one game of Dead by Daylight with the new patch, and am deleting it. They've basically screwed over long-term players by taking away perks you already had so that you have to grind again for them all because you didn't grind your characters for what used to only be cosmetic rewards. They also changed up a bunch of gameplay for both sides of the game for no reason.
