Keeping out of the heat and playing "Stray". This has released a couple of days ago on Steam, was a highly anticipated Indie game and of course I had pre-ordered it. It is a cute little puzzle adventure set in a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk world. Feature: You play as a ginger cat! I like it already, it is exactly the kind of relaxing cute gameplay I enjoy when I just want to chill and relax. However. I made the mistake of checking out the comment section on steam and I am very annoyed at the level of toxicity towards this game. I am not shocked or surprised, because I have been on the internet for a while and I am well aware of the level of toxic interaction going on. It really ticks me off this time, however, because this is just such a cute little piece of art, which delivers what it said it would deliver. For some reason, it has fallen victim to the heat-addled minds of the collected trolldom. Yes, everyone who has read Terry Pratchett knows that troll brains stop working in heat, so maybe this was not unexpected. But that level of vitriol? It just presents verbal gems like "this is the perfect game for casuals and women". WTF does that even mean. Yeah, I am a woman who enjoys playing some casual games. And I am proud of it. And I am not ashamed to say that so far I enjoyed this game. How can this even be a bad thing. However, I am not in the mood to get into any arguments today, otherwise I would have dared these idiots to tell me why. My peace of mind is a small price to pay for remaining ignorant. So yes, recommendation for "Stray", a cute relaxing cat game set in a dark post-apocalyptic city. Just do not expect a AAA experience. And keep away from the comment section.

Good way into Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag, and quite enjoying it I have a lot of love for Odyssey, but I think Black Flag remains the best/most fun game in the whole franchise (at least for me).

It's a complete cesspit of reactionary morons. Literally every time I check the Steam forums for any game, there's always at least one thread on the first page of these people whining about SJWs, women, trans people, etc., etc. Definitely one of the worst places on the Internet. Anyway: how are you finding Stray? I'm a bit far from spending anything n new games right now, but that's one of the games I've been most interested in. Too many games are about playing as humans, fighting humans. So boring! I wanna play as a cat, a spaceship, a bird. Anything but another derpy ape. (Speaking of which, you ever hear about an old game called Tokyo Jungle? It was super weird! It was a post-apocalyptic 2.5D wildlife simulator. You pick an animal and then explore the ruins of Tokyo to find food, shelter and mates. Playing as successive generations of versions animals. So cool!)

Just completed Ethan Must Die on Resident Evil 7. The hardest difficulty in the game, you have to get through a stretch of gameplay with almost every enemy being able to one hit kill you, various traps that can kill you if you don’t see them. All your items including ammo and weapons are completely random apart from a pocket knife, and you have to break open boxes that spawn randomly to get things, though be ready for some boxes to be booby trapped as well. Absolute chaos but after years of playing this game, I beat it. I’ve almost 100% completed the game finally!

You pick an animal and then explore the ruins of Tokyo to find food, shelter and mates. Playing as successive generations of versions animals. So cool I absolutely ADORE Stray. Steam now lists my playtime at 11,5 hours, and I am only in chapter 10 of 12. However, I admit that I took a few breaks in between, so Steam was running while I made some food or tea or chatted with people in a different window. So my real playtime is maybe around 8-9 hours.
Still, I am exploring every nook and cranny the game has to offer, I look for all the hidden places and special badges.
According to these toxic forums (yeah, you are about right about the level of toxicity there) people like me play the game "wrong". (hey, I am a casual woman, what do you expect? ) Yes, there is an achievement for beating the game in just 2 hours, but this is not why I play a game.
I want to relax and check out what is on offer. I think on average, people need maybe 5-7 hours for the game.
It is a great experience, the cat acts very believable and is perfectly animated.
The story is heartbreaking, the post-apocalyptic environment looks great and is suitably depressing. Some levels are also have some horror elements to them, although it is nothing too explicit, more like creepy background.
You also do not do any real fighting, it is more about running, jumping, evading, some stealth, using the environment.... you are a cat, not a space marine waving a boltgun around (if you want to shredder enemies with a chainsword, get Warhammer Space Marine, a game which I recommend to get rid of internal aggression and frustration ).
Some people complain that the game is linear. Well, yes, only 2 of the levels are larger open areas (a couple of housing blocks in size) which you can explore freely, the other levels are much more constrained and some levels are basically just long chase sequences where you have to run and evade enemies. Still, there are secret places to discover in most of them. The game presents itself as a puzzle adventure game, in which platforming often is part of the puzzle- solving.
The puzzles are clever and take full advantage of being a cat. So if you are a cat person, you can easily guess what the solutions are to some puzzles (some reviewers called some of the puzzles "obscure" but at a guess, they do not own a cat).
It is very well thought through, the people who made this own cats themselves and it is obvious they paid close attention to their pets.
It is no surprise there are now videos of real life cats being fascinated by watching their owner play the game, because the cat behaves so life-like.
I am a cat person, I have owned cats for years, and I have just been looking for a game like this.
Yes, the game is on the expensive side, but for me, it is money well spend.
But I did not expect the large open world RPG that some people did, instead I am happy with my puzzle adventure.
I think the game is very well done, especially for a small indie team, this is fantastic.
They also already released 2 patches for a couple of bugs, one of which also stalled my game progression. They had to do this, because that bug was right at the start and you just could not go on (although sometimes, the Steam forums are helpful and actually post some cheats on how to deal with bugs/ glitches, and this is how I got through. Anyways, it is fixed now).
So yes, the team is onto it.
So yes, I am recommending this game. However, bear in mind that I am one of these people who for example found the first Halo game a chore and I was bored to death by it (no, I am not into multiplayer whatsoever, only played the solo campaign, never finished it). And I played Mass Effect for the story, not the shooting (I played it on the easy story setting where all the pew-pew is basically just distracting before ones comes back to the meaty story). Imagine, there are indeed people who play Mass Effect once with a male Shepard and they play it for the shooting! And totally miss out on the most awesome female voice actress and all the romance options! I guess these are the people who call "Stray" a game for "casuals and women".
I rest my case.
EDIT: Yes, I have seen the Tokyo Jungle game back in the day. But I guess it was only for some console or other and I never really had money for games consoles. It looked interesting.

Didn't start with the gamergate trolls, unfortunately. I had an opportunity to migrate from moderating the old Day of Defeat standalone website forums, to moderating on Steampowered after Valve bought the mod and was closing down the DOD website around about 2005. I turned it down, because even in 2005 it was already a cesspit of trolls and prejudice that they couldn't be bothered to clean up. The gamergate losers may have amped it up, but it's been like that for close to 20 years at this point.

In this case, I needed advice how to get over the bug at the start where you cannot progress (it is patched now).
Usually, I just avoid it like the plague and especially avoid threads that already sound like troll food. The only nice Steam forums that seem to exist are for some visual novels and a couple of very small Indie games. Otherwise, it is like the Chaos Wastes in there.

Digimon Survive Gotta say after 4 years of waiting, if feels great to finally finish my first playthrough. The gameplay is a lot of fun, and I love the 2D on 3D art-style. It gives all the monsters a lot of charm and personality.
The story was good; excellent tone, atmosphere, and all the characters are well developed. Given the more stylized anime-heavy tones of modern Digimon games, it was nice to have a story that felt more somber and grounded characterization-wise. And a few flubs aside, it seems to be a solid translation job. You can tell they had a bit of fun with it, regarding the idioms and goofy asides they worked into it.
On the critical side, like a lot of Japanese JRPG type games, it is a tad over-padded. As said, the characters are all well developed, with distinct voices, but there's still a lot of reiteration and some waffling here and there. Several plot revelations are so strung out; it's frustrating to see the characters dance around subjects and muse on mysteries, the answers to which were obvious from the opening cut-scene.
Over-all, I enjoyed it a lot, and I'm looking forward to exploring some of the other story routes. Though I'll certainly be skimming a lot of the dialogue on my next run.

Got the new Way of the Hunter game. I usually do not buy AAA games on release. Too expensive and I just do not have enough time/ the attention span to get enough value out of it. However, I have always had a soft spot for hunting games, and this one looked good. Plus, it is lauded as very realistic, with very realistic animal behavior and not as arcade-like as other hunting games. It got mixed reviews, but the reviews by real life hunters were all very favorable. I am not a real life hunter, just a wildlife biologist, and I am curious about the animals in the game.
One of the reasons I got this is, I am pretty stressed out with work at the moment and need to relax. I am not even motivated to play any other of my games or much of anything else. I figured some relaxing walking thorough nature, with a nice stalking and collecting trophy mechanic, would do the trick.
Best of all- The game greeted me with the message "You can either follow the story and learn more about the family or do whatever you like." This is the first time in 2 weeks I was told I could do whatever I like. 5 star game already. Going to do whatever I like and take a stroll and do a 30 min stalk for some deer. Nothing more gratifying like sneaking up for 20mins and then get a nice kill.

Been playing through Black Mesa the last couple days. Between it being a complete remake of HL1, and my not having played the HL1 campaign since about 1999 or so, it feels very fresh and new. Having a good time.

Playing Horizon Zero Dawn for the first time and it’s pretty enjoyable. It isn’t setting the world on fire and it’s a bit overrated from what people said, but there is a solid amount to do, especially regarding collectibles.
Also, side note, one of the best ways for me to listen to Big Finish is doing collectibles in video games as I get easily distracted without something to stimulate my hands.
